Thank you so much for this video. I had the same problem with my Spinfisher 5500 IV. I tried everything including rearranging the shim washers in between the rotor and the A/R assembly. But when I took that assembly apart and then put it back together I must have fixed it because the noise went away lol. Now I understand why. Thanks again.

🙂 thanks for watching! Sometimes, just taking it apart and reassembling will do the trick.... ghosts in the machines.

Had the same on my okuma azors. I just removed the plastic arm for the back up anti reverse. Job done.

Thanks for watching! That's what I would have done also.

Awesome video.....common problem with these Penn Slammers. Took out the 'noisy' parts on both of mine today. Problem solved! Thanks!

Thanks for watching..... I believe it all started with the larger size Fierce reel (not 100%), but yes, sometimes these things slip. I agree with just going ahead and removing the backup dog.... you could also remove the black actuator piece over the pinion (not the gold piece it rides on) in the middle, but not really necessary.

My only question is if you remove that A/R assembly will it change the spacing between the rotor and the pinion gear stack assembly? And can that affect the distance the shaft travels or even line lay on the spool?

Nothing changes..... you're only removing the backup dog, c-clip and spring, plus the white trigger.... the o-ring stays.... it's supported by the underside of the rotor. I try to explain this in the video, but I know if may not have come across properly.

I don’t see that plastic dog holding much anyway. I like Penn but have to give Daiwa BG a nod for their backup AR system. Even if the AR bearing failed, one could keep fishing the BG with no worries.

I don't think Daiwa BG's anti-reverse system is any more superior than Penn Battle, Slammer 3's is. I have a Slammer 3 and had problems with a dirty anti-reverse bearing (I solved the problem by completely disassembling the a-r bearing, washing it and oiling it with low viscosity oil). Every time the anti-reverse failed in cold weather, the anti-reverse backup was activated with great success. The only difference between the Daiwa Bg and Slammer 3's backup is that the Daiwa Bg is made of metal which is perhaps a small advantage.

Difference of opinion. I will take metal over plastic any day for a mechanical AR. JMO.

@@vladocamus thanks for sharing your thoughts. Glad to hear the plastic backup dog works for you, but I would prefer metal.
