I've made similar patches and the way I get around the lack of persistence for randomization is to use the Steps grid module instead of dice. You can set it to 64 steps, randomize the values, and then use a value knob to control the phase (disable pre-cord). With multiple step modules connected to the same value knob, you have 64 sets of random values you can switch between. When you want a whole new set of values, just randomize the steps again.

But you can’t trigger on each new note bc the dice button is not modulatable 😅

@PolarityMusic you'd be generating the random values 64 at a time by hand. An alternative would be to stick a phase shift module between the knob and the different steps modules so you can offset them. Instead of randomizing the steps, you pick a different starting position. The values will persist and you can dial in a near infinite number of sets.

yea i know all the alternatives. but they all have their own problems and trade offs. a very simple persistance module would be cool tho :)

@@PolarityMusic Agreed. It all depends on what you're trying to do.

good idea, its kinda like using random chance to start a composition like old composers did with dice, but on the instrumental level. I like the idea

Because I'm allergic to thinking and randomness allows me to be a brainless potato hearing new sounds magically happen without me doing anything.

YES Polarity!!!!!! Best gift ever!!! Seriously this is awesome I love this. Endless fun, just sample the outputs. Two ideas I am going to explore: one is to basically turn this into a quasi drum machine like Ephemere by Inear Display (just needs like some sequencing and multiple voices, maybe push some towards hats, kiks, snares, etc). The other, sample these into Synplant2!!! Now you can get persistence and generate even more variations of sounds! Then go a step further and multisample the Synplant patch and bring into Tomofon for organic beauty!!! Brilliant stuff thanks again!!!

like the ideas!

Nice idea! Synplant 2 is so useful. V1 was already deeply useful, the new features just pushed it back into super-relevance again. Back when i made techno, Synplant 1 was my percussion secret weapon ✌️

I made a lot of similar patches to this! My idea was to fine-tune the range of random modulations for different patches to create generators for types of SFX that can be used in video games. For example, one that does random zappy noises, one that does explosion sounds, etc...

Thank you Polarity, this is awesome. If it was not for you I would never even open the grid as it intimidates me :)

😊 I have been loving the grid frequency shifter with these kinds of sounds. It almost feels like a physical modeling device rather than a classic frequency shifter with the delay and allpass/filtering in the fb.

this is a really cool concept :)

Feature request to Bitwig: add a Similarity parameter to the Dice module: if set to higher percentage the next value will be closer to the previous value. This would allow to get similar sounds with each randomization.

Polarity, I want to call you: the king of Bitwig Grid Randomness. (But upon further reflection that statement feels ‘too composed’ and unaligned with your channel’s dedication to randomness, so I retract it)
