@@Din-Oh Kind of. It's a cross between a rts and a turn-based rpg. Instead of moving the cards around, you get marshals with teams of three monsters that can level up, get a certain amount of action points per fight, etc.

When you spelled the name "Christian Rosenkreuz" I was caught off guard how fluently German that was. This game was something I always tried to like as a kid I had both FM and this plus Capsule Monsters Coliseum (could make for a nice video as well I feel like it's rather underrated) I call them the holy grail of Yugioh games cause since then the games sadly never shined outside of a few exceptions as for Rose's I actually never beat the game as a kid because it's pretty difficult to understand the mechanics I guess it being a similar game to FM also transfered the difficulty over. I should really play the whole thing sometime soon.. Edit: I just saw the Cover of Coliseum in the Outro 👀

Oh that's funny to hear, I was debating on whether I should pronounce it in English or German, but I figured it's clearly a German name so I rolled with it haha Oh CMC is coming for sure (the outro was intentional ofc). My plan was to do that as the next video essay, since it lines up well after DOTR and it's one of my favorite YGO games period! But if a lot of people want something else beforehand, I might consider doing it a bit later. I also have a challenge run for CMC recorded (inspired by Jon_Oh of course), I had a lot of fun playing it but the game is so long it will probably amount to 2 videos that are each over an hour long lmao DOTR also never hooked me that much as a kid, and even though I finished it a couple of years ago out of curiousity, I'm not all too inclined to play it again, maybe just for the mods. You're spot on about the mechanics, there were a lot of things I didn't know about the game because they are just not explained very well, or not at all. My main gripe with DOTR is probably the deck building menu, it looks so unbelievably clunky, it's just the FM menu but way worse in terms of visability.

I had Duelist of the Roses. But one day, I found the PS2 Case empty, and my game missing. Never found it again 🙁

You can play it via the PCSX2 emulator, if nothing else. There's also the REDUX mod that changes the game up and modifies how each duelist plays and what cards are available via the Graveyard Slots.

@@Din-Oh Hmm... honestly, it just wouldn't be the same for me. The time I spent playing on my PS2, building my Decks, and beating the game. Those are memories I keep with me from my childhood. I am more upset over the fact that my Game (along with a few others) were stolen without me realising.

This Game is so cool, i did a real life Yugioh Duelists of the Roses Board Game with a complete Ruel book 😅 with Cards from the Goat Format, and it works 💁‍♂️ This Game is a great Insperating. Great Rewiev 👍

Duelists of the Roses really needs a remake/remaster with some of the more recent cards added in (like Fallen of Albaz, Ecclesia/Cartesia, Aluber, the HERO archetype, etc.). This game offered such a unique variation of the classic Yugioh formula with the added strategy layer of actually moving your cards across the playing field. Plus, on modern consoles this game would work very well with the added capability of online multiplayer (maybe even by adding a variant or two to the normal gameplay style, like adding 2-on-2 "Tag" matches and 4-player free-for-alls). If they actually did that I'd buy a remake/remaster of the game in a heartbeat. Duleists of the Roses would really benefit from an even larger pool of available cards, and consoles like the PS5 could really bring the monsters to life like never before. Hell, maybe they could even add "side stories" that explores the lore of some of the cards (like Buster Blader, or the lore of Fallen of Albaz & Ecclesia). ....I just really want to see Fallen of Albaz in a game like Duelists of the Roses as it's long since become my favorite monster and I even consider him to be the "Ace" of my favorite decks (one of which is an Albaz/Blue-Eyes hybrid deck in Master Duel). With Master Duel around, interest in Yugioh is likely active enough that a remake/remaster of Duelists of the Roses would draw quite a bit of attention.

Spoilers: I always liked how the bad guys in this are the only ones with a plan to send you back home and even do it. Honestly it seemed like once the bad guys realized they were in the wrong, they ended up softening. It might be the legitimately better ending overall for everyone involved.
