Its really hard to say what part or why, but I started reading it after season 2 and I think what kept me hooked is just how big the world really feels and how much it opens up with part 3. I just hope the animation improves for season 4 since WIT is taking over for it and the anime adaptation so far has left a lot to be desired.

10:00 Yea sometimes light novel to anime adaptations or even manga adaptations can be so vague and different that it almost feels like the adaptation is straight up a fanfiction. Skipping 3/4th the content from novel to anime is so considered borderline normal. COTE novel went from the 6th highest rated light novel series in anilist and literally 2nd in light novel and the 31st highest rated source material of all time in myanimelist, to the 898th ranked anime, and that too being influenced by people's love towards to the original light novel.

Thats right isekai genre is so flexible you can put romance, drama, action and many genres into it and even new to anime will easily get interested, the downside is because of its popularity they keep and keep making generic shows doesn't matter if its poorly written or poorly animated just put the isekai genre with a bunch of fan service thats it , but here me out there is one manga that really stand out with me , I've watch/read so many isekais and in my honest opinion even with mushoku tensei, slime i still pick this manga even though it has maybe 16 chapters only the title is "I Got a New Skill Every Time I Was Exiled, and After 100 Different Worlds, I Was Unmatched"

I think it would be cool to see isekai with other settings like you mentioned, but I think part of the problem is it becomes incredibly difficult to justify it being an isekai. Anything with a more futuristic setting takes away a huge part of the advantage you have as someone being reborn with your memories - nothing you remember from the modern world will give you a leg up in the future besides just not having to relearn mathematics. In that case, why bother trying to set it up as an "isekai" if the character won't be that different from just a non-isekai sci-fi character. Medieval fantasy just kinda settles into that position perfectly where the world is somewhat developed enough to be comfortable to set a story in, but not so developed that you are constrained by the pressures of modernistic society - the schooling, and rigid structures created by it.

there are a few Sci-fi isekai that I know of like "I’m the Evil Lord of an Intergalactic Empire" which is about the MC thinking he is dong evil while making the Empire a better place without realizing it "Reborn as a Space Mercenary, I Woke Up Piloting the Strongest Starship!" while the title does say strongest starship that is not really accurate as that is technically only true for that starship size class as bigger sized starships have the same or stronger weapons then his ship has (a pro video game player got basically transported with his ship into that game but only the mechanics/technology are the same from that game but the universe/locations itself seems to not be from the game) and in this one the MC does tell about his past life and it is kinda interesting how people have responded to that

@@user-lh5my4ws8j pretty interesting how the characters have a abit of similarities though: 1.White haired half elf(emilia) saved subaru from getting beaten to death by 3 thugs; first crisis in new world/something they are completely powerless to do anything about. White haired half elf(sylphy) saved Rudeus from Erectile dysfunction; first crisis in new world/something they were completely powerless to do anything about. 2.blue haired demon(rem) saved subaru during his lowest point. Blue haired demon(roxy) saved Rudeus during his lowest point. 3. Emilia(half elf) is treated horribly cause of her looks resembling the witch of envy. Sylphy(half elf) was treated badly due to her hair colour resembling the superb race. This last one is just funny to me but: Subaru got hate for rejecteing the blue haired demon(rem) while Rudeus got hate for accepting the blue haired demon(roxy) and finally both mc's are the most disliked in their show; well more like the main reason anime watchers who don't like the show hate on it(i love subaru though). A few similarities here and there though some could just be a coincidence. I personally prefer to think that MT got inspiration from re:zero though.

@@user-lh5my4ws8j And the main reason MT is known as the god father of isekai even though as you say, it got some inspiration from re:zero is because more anime are similar to it than they are to re:zero. .Truck-kun .Getting help from a god .school arc .Harem .legal lolis for love interests .having more mana than most others .adventurer's guild Re:zero doesn't have a single one of these but there are hundreds of isekai with atleast one of these including tensura, overlord, eminnce in shadow, konosuba e.t.c. Re:zero is too different from most isekai to be their progenitor.

An Isekai I am currently liking a lot is Ascendance of a Bookworm which while having an anime, I am talking about the Light novel version in this case though. Because while the anime did do an alright job in adapting it so far, it however would need a lot of seasons to fully adapt the series into anime (so it is quite far behind story wise and I am loving the story) Which is almost fully translated into English (like in the next few months the last volume will be officially out)

I enjoy watching older Isekai from the 90’s early 00’s where the protagonist(s) had to figure out the world, solve some problem, and go back home. Escaflowne and magic knight Rayearth are two examples. A couple others I enjoy are ‘outbreak company’ and ‘twelve kingdoms”.

The #1 isekai for every sub-genre is just 5, slime, konosuba, rezero, mushoku tensei and overlord. Story, action, comedy etc. Those 5 have it all basically and you can argue that slime and/or overlord arent needed for it.

If you want to know why isekai series names are most of the time so long That is due to the web novels using their titles as a description as well, due to how the site they all use works And that web novel website users tend to copy what is popular at the time with some added variations to them (Which for example is why there are a lot of bunnies with horns/swords on their heads in these series, which funny enough is probably what caused the "Bofuri" anime to alter their horned bunny that would have been the MC first monster encounter :P) That website which I forgot the name of current most popular trend setting wise was I think called "low fantasy" (I am not sure if that is truly the name for the setting) which is about how dungeons appearing in our world like "Solo Leveling"(has an anime) or "Everyone Else is a Returnee"(has no anime) So that setting might be the next big anime takeover after the isekai anime takeover (and the Isekai anime takeover I would argue already happened a while ago, Seeing how at least a few new isekai anime come out per season, each season for a while now) And while Sword Art Online made the isekai setting popular for anime. I do not see SAO as an isekai itself, as to me VRMMORPG games are by themselves not isekai, a recent example of this would be "Shangri-La Frontier"(has an anime) (This of course does not include Isekai that transport the MC into an other world/universe that look like a game they played, like for example the setting of isekai-ing into an Otome game) There are also plenty fantasy stories that are seen as isekai but are also not really isekai as the MC gets reborn/reincarnated into their own world just x amount of years later for example "Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire"(has an anime) and "A Tale of the Secret Saint"(has no anime) As for a reason why the MC tend to look like Kirito that is most likely due to the MC being from Japanese decent which would result in the MC having most likely black short hair and black eyes, however there are plenty of Isekai that do not follow this common appearance as well For an example of a non-average isekai I would recommend "The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash" (has an anime) which while having her past life knowledge, the MC is not her past life self And then we have the "joke" Isekai stories like reincarnated as a vending machine/mimic/apple/hot spring/rice cooker/etc (Which can have some interesting story to tell but they tend to be more jokey/ less serious about their story)

Anime is a business you know, it’s because these power fantasy anime is a safe bet for producers and writers with minimum risks, that so many new writers start in this genere because no matter how bad they are at writing it will still be decent with pre explored tropes. If a new and creative isekai is made that would be a huge risk to whoever is creating it since it’s unexplored territory, it would be like the wright brothers who made the first airplane no one would believe them until they take the risk

Nice video man, thank you for proving Mushoku tensei is the GOAT xD. imo isekai is much alike to fantasy, the only huge different is that MC may have past life memories, but it will be a filler if it does nothing but exists. Thats why if I'm watching an isekai story excluding the past-thingy feature, then nah I'd switch to fantasy, a more interesting genre since people invented it long ago. After all, imagination is a limit of literature, and isekai got plenty of crazy idea that nothing else has.

So we have the big five being: Re; Zero, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Overlord, Jobless Reincarnation, and Konosuba which are all great isekais. Then we have five other Isekai who were just out of reach to make a big five slot those being: Moonlit Fantasy, The Eminence in Shadow, The Rising of the Shield Hero, Grimgar, and The Saga of Tanya the Evil. Then we got some honorable mentions like Death March, By the Grace of the Gods, No Game No Life, Iruma-Kun, Cautious Hero, etc.

@@xXTigerWaveXx while I agree that SAO is not really an Isekai due to it just being people playing their VRMMORPG game (and getting stuck in them sometimes) (Like with Bofuri / Free Life Fantasy Online / Shangri-La Frontier) But Log Horizon would fall under Isekai as while both SAO and Log Horizon are video games, Log Horizon's characters/players are transported into the game / the game becoming reality itself. (Like with Overlord / In the Land of Leadale / The New Gate / She Professed Herself Pupil of the Wise Man)

To be fair - the Light Novels of Mushoku Tensei make the anime feel like it’s actually a different thing altogether. Entire chapters and characters cut, locations etc. And honestly, you remember that ‘hard to watch’ scene from S1 cour 1? There’s a few paragraphs like that in them too - Atleast up to volume 5-6.

You're Not an Anime fan if ALL you watch is Shounen!! Mix-up your palette. Try SoL, Romance, Thriller, Horror, School Life, Survival, Sci-fi. One of THE Best SoL shows I've ever watched was "Super Cub" and "Astra Lost in Space" My 1st taste of Anime was the movie "Akira" back in the mid 90s, then, Super Street Fighter 2 Animated Movie and Fist of the North-Star.. I haven't looked back since. Now, when I watch anime fans asking what's their favourite show, it's Always some overrated Shounen. I haven't watched Any of em.. If you've seen 5-7 Shounens, you've seen em all.

SoL, Romance, Thriller, Horror, School Life, Survival, and Sci-fi can still be Shounen though, because they're genres. Shounen is a demographic. The same with Shoujo, Josei, and Seinen. I would say an actual mixing of palette is watching multiple shows of either 3 or all 4 demographics. Of course it's okay to have a favorite demographic and anime within said demographic, especially if it's yours, but mix up both demographics and genres.

heh just make sure to stick to the commonly spoken ones. Slime, rezero, MT obviously, konosuba, and overlord for the really popular ones. Saga of tanya the evil, shield hero s1, isekai quartet, and a few more are also enjoyable. You've just really gotta understand that isekai is a VERY diverse genre. Konosuba and MT are both absolute peak to me and they're so unbelievably different.

Obviously you dropped some of these shows early. In Chillin' in Another World, although only decent but not great isekai, the Demon King not only is eventually introduced, but becomes a major character alongside the MC and his wolf-waifu, while the MC also somehow manages to NOT make all the other cute girls into harem members because of his devotion to the true waifu.

Watching Isekai is weird but it has better stories and plot than most of shonen anime. I really not fun of Shonen since I started watching anime that is Slice of Life. I tried watching DS but dropped it to ep7, same with JJK s1 when it was airing back in 2020. SAO was my first Isekai I've ever watched, it was good, really good. For me, Mushoku and Rezero can solo them all

Web/Light novels series are not really part of the targeted demographic groups that manga magazines use like Shonen / Shojo & Seinen / Josei So their anime adaptations technically also are not part of that (unlike maybe with their manga adaptation which seem to mostly be classified as Seinen) Which might be part of the reason why you like more Isekai anime series than most of the shonen anime you have seen as this comment is a bit late, here is a (in my opinion a pretty fun) slice of life comedy Chio's School Road (Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro)

I think that part was more about how they are look-a-like enough for enough people who do not know the characters besides their appearance to mistake them for another which for characters like Natsu dragneel or Ichigo or Luffy or Gojo would not really happen much and other example would be with 3 different blond elves with Serie (Frieren: Beyond Journey's End) & Marcille Donato (Dungeon Meshi ) & Erufuda (Plus-Sized Elf) as they look different enough from each other that I do not think many would mistake one for the other even if they do not know them very well but I do agree that those characters are indeed not really carbon copies of Kirito but I can understand why people do think that way as well

the problem with Isekai is that they mostly treat side characters as nothing, they look ugly, they don't do anything relevant, and they just walk, how did Demon Slayer gain growth? because they gave attention to the smallest of small characters, EVEN the weak demon slayers, who have interesting situations happening, and the characters have life, unlike animes such as Failure Frame, where you have the ugliest people ever, excluding the main characters...

I have one singular issue with stating the isekai is the worse of the worse. And its that you showed rent a gf above it. There is no series worse than rent a gf. The MC is as if you took all the creepy main characters from all isekais combined them together and gave him zero character progression or redeeming qualities. honestly I heavily agree, but another thing that's really annoying in isekai is that in a lot of them we dont even see the mc/the one teleported to another world even care about what he left behind i nhis own old world. for example re zero, I have enjoyed it a lot and binge watched it in a couple days but what annoys me is that we never even saw subaru think about his old life even once till the sanctuary trial thing. its unfortunate that they dont actually create better isekai stories like the ideas you mentioned, but I'm always gonna have no shame in enjoying the good ones
