for $450 I will pass I guess i'm the only one that doesn't really have a problem pushing the pin and sliding on the pto as long as you spray wd40 on it. It always works for me. If it was like $50 i would try it but I don't think it will save me that much frustration for $450

Honestly I don't have that much issues with it myself. Grease is your friend, Grease the splines the shaft and universals well. If you cant rotate the shaft well lift up the implement, it might just be bound up sitting on the ground. Or need to see where all that drag is coming from something may need some tlc. I certainly cant justify $450 that can go towards something else I probably need much more.

I've had one for several years - they are GREAT !. Simply put the one on the tractor and the other goes on an implement. Change implements ? change the part. Easy when you simply do it on the option. Now no pull back and push at the same time to get the spline aligned. J. DEER is selling a like version now.

I have definitely had a lot of problems connecting and disconnecting pto shafts on older equipment, so I can certainly see the benefits of a system like this. However, at $370 plus shipping cost, the price is a little outside of my comfort zone. These days I'm working (infrequently) with a new tractor and a new rotary cutter, and having less trouble making the connection. If I was still using the older equipment, or making the pto connection with a lot more frequency, I would be tempted to try this product.

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I guess I’m more used to buying used equipment, so what a dealer does has rarely been on my radar screen. I have an override (not live pto) so already have something about that size between the tractor and implements. The one thing that didn’t fit required me to remove the override. I don’t see how that implement could have an easy shortening of its shaft - either cut and weld or buy a shorter one. Back in the day, when we cut and baled hay, I had to swap a conditioner for a rake and back on a daily basis, and our baler, combine, sickle bar mower, and later the mower-conditioner were all pull-type pto equipment, so I got a lot of practice. 😉

@peteduncan921
@peteduncan921 3 жыл бұрын
You definitely need to check for that, and shorten the shaft as much as necessary. I bottomed out the shaft once on an old John Deere 65hp tractor and bent the pto splined shaft inside of the tractor. I had to spend about $1K to replace the parts. It was my own fault for driving the tractor/mower through a gully that was too narrow and too deep, but it was a lesson learned the hard way.

On some implement/tractor combinations you would have to cut your pto shaft down a few inches for this to work. We a have pto tiller that we had to shorten the shaft just get it to hook up, and that was for my Dad's tractor a 45 horse New Holland, only way I can hook to it with my Kubota 2800 is I have to hook up the pto first and then hook up the 3 point. It's a major pain in the ass, and my Dad bought it brand new about 3 or 4 years ago, one of those kinda things that you would love to slap some sense into whoever engineered it. This quick connect system is gonna add 2-4 inches and I can see it causing problems for some folks just like we have with that tiller.

If you have one tractor and five implements, you would not need five complete sets of this device, just one on the tractor and five of the other half. Hope they offer it that way. I only take my slasher off the tractor when I want to use the post hole digger, about once a year. Can see the benefit of this device, you still have to hold the weight of the pto shaft while hooking it up. Knowing how it works is a major factor in releasing the pin on the standard coupling. Once I figured that out it was a lot easier. Keeping the PTO shaft lubricated is also important so it slides well as it expands.

When you have arthritic hands, it's very difficult to depress the pin. And do any of you "nay sayers": have any idea the cost of buying metal ? Machining? Painting? Distributing? Shipping? etc. This is a well designed tool that helps people.

I can see pros and cons with this, if the pto shaft doesn't extend easily or becomes somewhat seized it could become a U joint demolisher

That will make the best doorstop to keep your shop walk door from slamming in the wind. Better JB weld a little keeper chain to that pin, after that gets dropped for the third time(I know all to well how arthritic fingers hold small things) that whole adapter is gonna fly further than a NFL quarterback can throw a football. At that price you could pay the neighbor kid a sawbuck and a chocolate chip cookie to hook\unhook for you. Just having' a little fun with ya SRF.

seems like more of a PItA than the regular ,, plus you have to worry about not dropping that pin.. (Plus--- show that after 4-5 years after it get's rusted/wore out)

I keep WD-40 on all my tractors. It makes hookup easy. The biggest problem I have is the PTO shaft sliding if I don't keep them oiled or greased. I don't think I would get any benefit from it because I keep my shafts and hookups working slick. Just wipe the dust off the PTO shaft on the tractor and spray with WD-40. But I can see how some people would be happy with it.

Everyone please be careful of what piece of equipment you use it on. By using this device it shortens the PTO shaft on the equipment. The pto can bottom out going through dips or making tight turns.

Shortening the pto shaft may not be necessary if used in conjunction with a 3pt quick connector.

Don't forget to potentially have to shorten the shafts. And then if the product fails the shafts could be too short to go back to the old way.

frontier isn't tarter as far as I know....Frontier brand I believe is Woods...ask your dealer. I'm not sure what "half of the stop" is...slow down and keep blades in good shape maybe...I'm not sure what ya mean. Tarter isn't frontier though

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer I work for a Deere dealer and woods makes a few of the grooming mowers, but the frontier cutters are made by tarter. They look identical except the color. And I had new blades on it, I ended up selling it and it still does the same thing. By the way I mowed at 3 mph to 5mph. Nothing helped. And on top of that the place I bought it from refused to help me.
