U.S. mothers get ZERO weeks of paid time off after giving birth, an anomaly among wealthy countries worldwide. Contrary to public opinion, paid family leave actually provides benefits to the economy and families. Here’s how.

I live in the Philippines, a third-world country, where Maternity Leaves are required by law. It boggles my mind that the people of the suppose-to-be most powerful nation in the world is still debating if giving mothers some time-off to take care of their newborns is good for their society. As if there is any other answer?

How could you be against abortion, and be against paid maternity time after birth, or against free birth? You shouldn’t even need a job or work to get paid maternity time to be with your baby. Also, only women get put into collections if they can’t afford the bill after birth. My deductible is $6875 on my HSA and then it’s still 10% of bills after that. When a baby is born, it’s only billed to the mother as a mothers bill, never the father!

Some companies in the United States, have maternity leave, but it’s not mandated by the government. Companies will voluntarily offer maternity leave as a benefit and that can also include state and federal employees as well as private companies. It’s not required, but some companies offer it.

@foreveravatar5874

Wtf. How did you get America should pay maternity/paternity leave because it not only benefits mothers and fathers but wider society as a whole and draw the conclusion that we want to pay people to reproduce. Like what? Here's the thing, you made it seem like such a liability that people are having kids when we need people to have kids to keep countries running. I mean take a look at China today. I mean if you pay maternity leave, cos I'm guessing that's what you have an issue with, then I think the woman would be more likely to go back to work afterwards. Like if you pay women maternity leave, then you would only have them on a 'payroll' as you so put it for a short period of time. Compare that to if you didn't have maternity leave, the mother would probably have to quit their job on order to look after their child and subsequently have to get welfare from the state. Like wouldn't it be better to have the government pay for maternity leave short term rather than hand out welfare for longer?

@the_ troubled_slappfest with no childcare policy so women have to choose between their careers or having kids. I have 2 female cousins in china who had to make that choice. They did end up having kids but only because of familiar pressure. And only AFTER they have parents who are retired. My cousins had to go back to work after 4 weeks. Canada provide 12 months maternity leave.

(I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not American so I'm not entirely sure how it works over there) But the point you just made not only removes the responsibility from the government to look after its citizens but it also boils it down to this being a problem for people who don't prepare for shit. When it isn't. This from what I've seen and read isn't an issue that people can solve individually. Looking at stuff like this and seeing it as a person by person issue is what allows systems like this to be held because it removes accountability for those who puts these structures in place to begin with which is the government, which historically hasn't given a shit about people.

And people thinking men wanting to provide is bad. A simple temporary fix is if the man provides and the woman caretakers for the family. Simple. Im not saying parents shouldn't have paid leave but divorce rates are so high for a reason. Femenism destroyed the idea of men providing and woman caretaking which is in our biology. Not saying it's not a bad issue.

No. 1 with how high inflation is getting and the fact that wages haven't gone up to match, many families can't survive on 1 person's income. You need 2. Heck people are working 2,3 jobs to survive and you think a family of 5 is gonna sustain a living with 1 persons income. Really? How are you going to blame High divorce rates on women going to work? As if it has nothing to do with abuse. Women are getting a divorce more than they were before because they can now. Like if you were in a marriage and you were the ONLY 1 doing the household labour, child rearing, emotional labour wouldn't you think to yourself I might as well get a divorce because at the end of the day I'm still going to be doing the same shit on MY OWN.

You must not be aware of the wealth disparity in the US. Average male American income is $38,500 - rounding up. And if policy in the US changes in favor for the average person, then worries about money (and time) wouldn’t be an issue. @ste-ke6ll
@ste-ke6ll Жыл бұрын
I don't know much about the average income is the US but as I understood the video was about not offering women paid maternity leave.... In such case the best thing a women can do is to find a responsible and wealthy husband who provides for her so she can quit her job once she has a baby or even earlier when she is pregnant, because rest and relaxation is needed in the last months of pregnancy...being a working mom is exhausting after all... I hope my point is clear to you

This way of thinking is the problem. We can subsidize parental leave like other countries do to avoid companies from complaining bout losing profit that they aren't losing. It would be the government responsibility not the companies. The main is everyone keeps saying "Think about the companies!" Instead of "Think about the families!'. Once people in the US really stop having kids, these companies won't have any products to sell to. Their new consumers would be gone. The other argument only hurts the American people and will eventually hurt the economy. You can't have an economy without people.
