I love their movies. Not fond of them saying they’re “growing up” making live action movies aswell and with how much post production cgi is being put into their movies, so much of link was made with cgi feels a bit sad knowing how their made by hand and minimal cgi usage in something like coraline and paranorman slowly faded away from the direction of the company

@@TheShoogyShoo One reason Stop motion is a hard sell now a days is that 3d films are more animated thus more marketable. However 2000's CGI was hit and miss, making easier for Coraline to be visually impressive in 2009, even for fans of CGI films. Helping matters even further is that it's one of the darkest kid films ever made. Now that CG got better, it's harder for casual audiences to be impressed with Stop motion compared to back then.

Personally, I think Laika has some insanely big shoes to fill if they were to try to surpass their success with Coraline/Paranoman. But honestly, I'm kind of 50/50 on if that'll happen. Personally, I don't think it matters just as long as their new films end up telling really interesting stories. Kubo is a great example. It might not have been their biggest success but it's still an insanely good movie regardless. But it would be nice if they could capture audience's attention again so they could be known for more than just two or three films. So, it would still be nice if they could have another largely successful film.

All LAIKA movies ranked (in my opinion) 1 - Coraline: *insert homelander meme* 2 - Paranorman: it’s awesome. 3 - Kubo: IT HAS NO RIGHT TO BE SO DAMN GOOD 4 - Boxtrolls: not as good as the others, but I still love it 5 - The Missing Link: it sucks. That’s it, it just sucks.

Yeah Boxtrolls was definitely NOT the move. Talk about shooting 100% and then shooting at 50% out of nowhere . As great as Paranorman was I can see why it doesn't have the cultural significance of Coraline. It was almost a bit too mature too really be a kids film but yet not mature enough too be for adults. Also Coraline being based off a book means it already had a built in audience. Kubo was a bit too "artsy" i.e. tried too do too much, and Missing Link doesn't even know what it is

The issue is what Coraline appeals too yes, it's a kid movie but Coraline was way ahead of the scary kid craze. FNAF, POPPY etc shows kids want dark tales told right with each movie they stray away from this or the subject matter while endearing doesn't gain much from being in stopmotion. How many people that watch Coraline makes dolls themselves many right cause us doll makers would be interested selling a movie around dolls and buttons even if we aren't kids. What about stopmotion or crafts do kubo gain nothing but visual and that's the issue stopmotion not best artform to even tell that story. Wendel and Wild to me is only one that captured that grit when in itself wasn't even close to best of lakia so cleary the grit is there but hard to harness. They should work on crafting a world that people want to see and narrative that will leave questions even after the movie. A tale centered on one person is great but when it wraps up so neatly u have closure and move on. Till this day even with a book of the book many do not know everything about the Coraline lore and that's why it works cause the world have us hooked.

You bring up a lot of good points! People love the lore of stuff. I went down my rabbit hole of coraline theory videos. I really want them to learn from every film and craft their best!

For one thing, they should NOT called something as boring as Wild Wood! I mean take a look at Disney's Strange World. That title alone made no one want go and see it as it does not say anything about the film you are going to see and nothing about it sucks you in.
@TheShoogyShoo6 ай бұрын
I don’t hate the name wildwood but I also don’t love it. I agree that titles need to draw you in since they don’t have big star faces like the rocks rampage movie. Paranormans title is clever, cool, and interesting. Once we finally get the movie I wonder if a better name will be super obvious
