Gaslighting, manipulation, guilt tripping, projection, defensiveness, denial, rage, crying, name-calling, making me dizzy with word salad. My ex narcissistic used ALL these tactics on me every time I tried to leave him. I'd end up feeling exhausted, horrible, confused and just give up. I was stuck in this toxic hellhole loop for 6 years. But I'm 11 months FREEEEEE today!!!!💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 Life on the other side is GLORIOUS!!!!!❤️

GUILT IS THE PRIMARY REASON YOU DO NOT LEAVE THE NARCISSIST. YOU CANNOT RESUE SOMEONE WHO DOES NOT THINK THAT THEY ARE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE THEY DO NOT WANT TO BE RESCUED. THEIR CHILD INSIDE OF THEM DOES NOT EXIST. YOU CANNOT SAVE THE CILD WHO DOESN'T EXIST ANYMORE. PERIOD.

They can't be rescued, as they are not willing to own their problems, instead in denial.🤔🚩🏃‍♀️

I'd say it's more out of fear of how they'll retaliate

I forgave him, but they only use that to define your acceptance of their behaviors which are bad. You allowed and still allow it. No, you had only ❤ for them.

This. And fear of physical harm, since he was so volatile.

Do not try to be a SAVIOUR. Learnt it the hard way. I know it sounds cruel and selfish but trust me we're not the selfish ones! We're humans fighting and protecting ourselves from the likes of demons.

My understanding is that they do this behaviour is to protect themselves. Mine was badly treated as a child for definite. However he never really rose above this and as our very long term marriage progressed his behaviour became worse and worse. I learned about narcissism over the last 3 to 4 years . He matches such behaviour exactly. I escaped after decades but recovery has been extremely slow for me and is still in progress. I suffered such bad trauma my health is dire.

I had a 2-date relationship with a psychopath. Okay, two dates was a lot with this freak. I had one loving relationship for four years. He died. I had a good relationship with a much younger man for a few years. I believe you are helping a lot of people. I do not believe I have some mother wound.

Not in my case. I was happy to leave him for all the chaos he caused in my life. I just can't believe anyone that has not done anything wrong would feel guilty for leaving these demons.

This is so true that's how i got with him. Now when i look at our baby daughter i feel more bad did him. He is still being treated as a pawn. But i can't force him to love and appreciate us. He discarded us the day he heard i was pregnant and i feel for a recent hoover it's been 3 dates since i decided i can't anymore and went complete no contact.

1. Don’t buy into guilt. If guilt was money and you paid $1,000 dollars for it - but you got nothing for it - you would reject it immediately. 2. Pretend in your mind that the narc is dead 💀 - because in reality they really are dead inside - no heart 🖤, no soul ⚫️! Would you consciously date or be around a corpse? Certainly not - but here you are facing that reality every single day that you stay & make excuses for them & yourself.

That explains why I felt guilty and said so, to someone who knew him and his family. They said, "See". You have my experience with even professionals that think that the one you are talking about deserves your sympathy. No, the guilt is only FALSE GUILT IN YOU, BECAUSE OF YOUR OVERABUNDANCE OF EMPATHY FOR THEM, THE NARCISSIST. I DO UNDERSTAND NOW.
