The opening of that album from the first notes of "All I Really Want" is SO textbook 90s greatness! I was 10 when it came out and I loved this album.

If you’re on this page watching this video you’re clearly a fan of Alanis. As such, you will LOVE the new documentary! It is fantastic.

I bought this album when it came out back in '95 and brought it back to Europe where nobody had heard of Alanis. A month later all of my friends had the album and a couple of months later the world was marinating in the Jagged Little Pill. It is such a defining album, it represents the mid-90's perfectly and the development of feminism and unapologetic women. Kelis came out a couple of years later and I don't think "I hate you so much right now" could have been a hit without Alanis breaking the 'angry woman' barrier a couple of years before. Ed. 5:48 Yay, he said Björk correctly! Well done, sir.

I had the same experience but with the American soldiers stationed over there with 3 Doors Down.

I cry listening to “Your House”. Her voice and the lyrics were so overwhelming and haunting!

Absolutely connected with this album, much to my parents duress lol. 15 yo, still cracking voiced gay boy who absolutely had to crank it to the level of his angst and sing every single note!!!! No worries, they survived and I do have a huge love for oldies as well.

This album really stood the test of time, I see people who where kids/teens talking about the impact JLP had on them when it came out, i grew up hearing this album a decent amount and on occasion I would listen to it myself, now that I'm 19 though this album has really clicked with me, sonically it sounds amazing and the messages of most, if not all the songs have something I can take away and relate to. As a guy I don't relate to the angry strong women aspect but there is still so much here that hits me in my very soul. A beautiful album, truly a masterpiece.

I remember first hearing this album at my friend’s and loving it. My sister owned it, and I “borrowed” 😉 it over and over and after a lot of yelling she offered to trade it to me for an album of mine she wanted. Worth it.

Jagged Little Pill would have not been a masterpiece without Ballard. Her career after her debut is proof of that fact.

@happy mag I absolutely love to see one of these “why it mattered“ videos about Liz Phair’s ‘Exile in Guyville. Just a request, if you don’t feel the way I do about that album then I can truly understand why there is no video depicting the brilliance of that album though. Just a little thought from the super fan of the amazing Liz Phair.

I’ve been a fan since Jagged. She always felt authentic. Only thing I still question. Is the song ironic about irony or is it ironic because it has no irony in it? One thing clear if it’s the latter Alanis doesn’t understand the definition of ironic😂😂

I know the name Allison Morissette, songs were unavoidable through radio aso of course. But I never liked and immediately struck me as an angry jung women which probably wouldn't come back after that album. And correct me if I'm wrong but I was right. Though I must mention to be fair, I have never been a top 10 hitparade fan..I was and am in to full blast metal and mostly thrash metal. As I got also other stuff got appreciated like Ice-T, La Coka Nostra, Johnny Cash, the Devil Makes Three and loads of other stuff. But this angry girl, no, never, overrated in every way and hyped up by the media..imo. ✌🏻Greetings from Netherland👍🏻

There was a few similar artists that followed and then came the 'man hater' narrative. Yawn. It's a timeless classic but men struggle to let women win on their own merits.

Album sucked. Just a Creed vs Pearl Jam debate. Copycat rock album, deliberately jumping on what was left of the bandwagon.
