I was just thinking about this as I clicked on the video and had this thought: If Snape had heard the entire prophecy it would have not been fulfilled. If Snape wasn't standing right outside the door, and if he hadn't heard what he had heard, the prophecy would not have been fulfilled. Makes me wonder: if Snape had not been standing there, and definitely about to be found and kicked out at just the right moment, would the prophecy have even been made to begin with? For if he wasn't there, and SPECIFICALLY HE as no other death eater would have requested Lily be spared, how could it have ever been fulfilled?

I think the prophecy was always about both Nevil and Harry. If you think about it, Neither could live unless the other ie third part of the prophecy died, and neither would live unless Harry had died. He did die, even if only temporarily. If he hadn't Nagini's death would have meant little and without Nevil, Harry couldn't have destroyed the horcux in Voldermort's body. The prophecy was always about two boys born at the same time of year but worded to sound like it was talking about just one. One of them had to be in the shadows while the other became known. One had to be underestimated or they would have never gotten close enough to Nagini, and the other had to be seen as the only thing standing in Voldermort's way or he would have never created the protection spell that allowed the battle to change tides. If that hadn't happened Harry couldn't have gotten to the one on one duel.

I think there are 2 possibilities if Voldemort had managed to retrieve the prophecy: 1. The prophecy loses its value and doesn't fulfill itself, just like countless others, because Voldemort knows about it and takes actions against it. 2. Nothing changes, because Voldemort can't accept the fact that he can be defeated.

Oddly enough all interviews for the senior positions where I work have been held in either a pub or a cafe... generally happens when they’re trying to sound someone out for a job and they don’t want any of the riffraff (my work colleagues and I) finding out who they are interviewing. The industry I work in everyone knows each other (at least locally) and it’s not unusual for people to go between jobs / companies.

If he had went fully charmed for a divination professor job interview, I would have called such vigilance a plot contrivance given the fact that a rare prophecy came to him during the interview. Even if he had the foresight to charm up as the prophecy began, I'd also consider that a plot armor contrivance. You're asking Albus to be made omniscient. Remember, kids: plot armor is worse than plot holes.

More importantly, what would have happened if Voldermort never heard any part of the prophecy? Or if the prophecy had never been made? Voldermort would have had no reason to go after the Potters and would never have been vanquished. He would have won the war and by the time Harry came of age, he would have been firmly in power and impossible to remove. Hearing of the prophecy was Voldermort's Battle of Midway. It was the act the led to his downfall.

The prophecy may not be the future. It may be another latent magic which lashes out because the entire magical world or some powerful magical folk are under stress or duress. And so it reveals itself to the people who need to know certain things to force certain outcomes. So the prophecy wasn't only meant for Albus but also to Severus but only partially to Severus. So if Severus hadn't bothered to show up that night, there would have been no Boy who Lived. The one with Wormtail returning to the Dark Lord seems to contradict my theory. However, Wormtail had been hounded by Padfoot for that entire year. By the end of it he must have been desperate. Even if he felt it was only a long-shot, he probably was having stressful delusions of returning Voldemort to power so that Padfoot and Moony couldn't possibly hurt him. And Trelawney's prophetic sensitivity would have picked up on these powerful emotions to relay them to Harry, who although subconsciously might have been stressed over The Dark Lord making appearances during the last two years despite supposedly being dead. Like a reverse Dementor that gives hope or guidance instead of fear and despair.

If you think about MacBeth (which is actually what I think this is based on), upon hearing a prophecy and putting stock into it, MacBeth does everything in is power to make it untrue. This is directly responsible for bringing the prophecy to fruition. It's actually a really interesting study on the laws of attraction. In other words, by centering efforts around something (positive or negative) it tends to yield results that resemble that thing.

Dumbledore himself didn't know Harry was a Horcrux until the 6th book/movie, when he touched the Ring. Even perhaps realizing it was actually the Part that Voldy didn't have... But i think the Connection of the Prophecy is actually in the Blood used to bring Voldy back.... By using Harry's Blood... Lilly's Love Magic lived on... Something neither expected

I’ve asked this before, but can you explain the timeline of what happened with the prophecy and Peter defecting? So far I have: Early 1980- prophecy July 1980- Harry was born. Peter defected around this time give or take a couple months. Late summer/Fall/winter 1980- Snape told Dumbledore that Voldemort was after the Potters Fall 1981- Dumbledore offered to be Secret Keeper. Lily and James said no and that they wanted Sirius to do it. Sirius said Peter should be Secret Keeper. Last week of October 1981- the Fidelius charm was cast with Peter as Secret Keeper. Peter told Voldemort where the Potters were hiding. Halloween 1981- Voldemort killed Lily and James. Why did it take Voldemort a year to track down the Potters?

First I have a feeling that Lily and James had to have been moving around a lot. I think Peter probably told Voldemort as soon as he could get away from his Order duties so depending on what he was doing with whom, it may have been months. Finally, Voldemort has a flair for significant places, people, and dates. Halloween is, traditionally a very powerful time for witchcraft so for him to kill Harry on Halloween would be a great message and truly set him up for how powerful he wanted everyone to believe he was. Plus if you add in the theory that he was going to make his last horcrux with Harry’s death that just fits as well.

The prophecy was only told at that exact time because snape was there to listen and Dumbledores brother was there to intervene, without those circumstances Voldemort would never have acted so irrationally and created his unexpected horcrux and thus the whole prophecy would never have come true because there wouldnt have been an extra horxrux to connect Harry and Voldemort. Harry would not have been able to destroy the diary because he wouldn’t have been able to speak parstletounge etc. Sorry guys I’m on drugs tell me if this is too deep

This wouldn't happen for the simple fact that Voldemort already tried possessing Harry after the Voldemort vs Dumbledore dual in book 5 and he failed missaerably because he couldn't bear to possess a soul thats full of love. Now, I don't know what that means for the shard thats attached to Harry but that was the explanation that was given to the reader by Dumbledore.

Dude it was basically explained in the book. He would of known he marked harry as an equal. He could of chosen longbottom or potter and of course he could kill him. Dumb fire explained it pretty clear to me!

I have always wondered, Dumbledore knew the content of the prophecy and he should know how much Snape told to Voldemort, right? was of any use to protect the prophecy? it doesn't truly matters if the dork lard knows the exact text. the most important part has already happened. voldemort marked harry as his equal. the most important detail is that the prophecy states that "either must die at the hand of the other for neither can live while the other survives" since that means only voldemort can kill harry and harry must die for voldemort to survive. this should scare voldemort since the prophecy proves that Harry can defeat him and that voldemort will never truly win unless he personally kills harry. knowing this, why would Dumbledore want to protect the prophecy? it's better if voldemort learned it fully and got scared about the power he knows not. maybe Voldemort would had wasted time trying to discover what is that power he knows not. a power Harry has.

There is a few things working against Voldemort one Harry is a Horcruxe two their wands are brothers and as long as one is being used by their owner it won’t allow Harry to come to harm

So she foresaw that Voldi would accidentally turn Harry into a horcrux, neither can live while the other survives, he always would have had to kill Harry and Harry was always going to return now having the ability, not been tied to Voldemort, to kill him. Snape was supposed to hear it and tell Voldemort

I think he would've killed snape cause snape was his downfall without him he would've never tried to kill harry. snape only give him part of the prophecy so he is the direct cause of his first demise ! this is something people tend to overlook. wich would cause harry to never ever been able to get the sword etc etc...
