There is only one limitation to the Killing Curse. For it to work, you have to want your victim dead otherwise the curse will only stun severely. Riddle learned this over several tries when creating his horcruxes. So in regards to Snape, Riddle was very fond of Severus. Snaoe was one of the few people Tom personally sought out and recruited. So when Voldemort thought that Snape commanded the elder wand, it was a regretful moment for Riddle. He could not bring himself to do it (the curse would not work). So he ordered Nagini to kill Severus.

This always confused me. But during the video the same thing occurred to me. That he wouldn’t have been able to kill snape with the curse. Not really wanting to kill him. Could have been really dark if he was able to use sectum sempra though. Other option is about the idea of killing curse tearing the soul from the body and not wanting to do that to snape. But honestly the killing curse seems like the most merciful way to kill someone. Oh, and being under imperius sounds amazing and there should be underground ‘drug bars’ where people are addicted to it. Not related but that’s my personal head cannon

I always figured the reason Voldemort didn't use the elder wand to kill Snape was bc he was worried the wand refuse to kill it's "true" master and the curse would rebound just like it did when he originally tried to kill Harry

This a unique way of viewing this. The more commonly believed theory is that Voldemort did not use the Elder Wand on Snape because he did not want to risk the Wand rebounding the killing curse at him because he thought Snape was the true master of it. But this theory adds some context and a bit more nuance to Voldemort’s character, showing that he at the very least, truly respected and valued those he deemed most loyal to him.

Agree... "Felt compassion" may have been a streatch, but maybe Voldy felt appreciation of Snape's apparent full commitment. Snape was an excellent double agent. That is in my opinion, the best explanation.

It is curious how Rowling was able to give Voldemort so many 'human' atributes. This had made me realize that he most likely felt sorrow for Bellatrix too because he witnessed her death. Which makes me wonder, what would have happened if he had truly regretted all he had done? I haven't heard any theory about that yet. It took me a couple of years to feel comfortable with a theory that deals with the two souls/Horrocruxes stuff. It may be time to attempt to give it a thought on the possibility of Voldy surrendering. He was so afraid of death, and when he literally faced Harry -all of his Horrocruxes gone, with an evident chance of losing... He still tried to do the same thing?! Probably the best decision to close the story. However, there is always the 'what if' that keeps us coming back to this kind of videos, and this endless threads.

@@benglick5666 then voldemort would win. the only reason harry won was due to the elder wand not belonging to him and making his killing curse backfire. he wouldnt have had that problem after defeating harry, and he was more than capable to beat anyone remaining in a duel. Btw the prophecy is wrong, so dumbledore could have defeated voldemort as well. Why is the prophecy wrong? Because it said in the prophecy that either must die at the hand of the other, and neither can live while the other survives. Harry didnt die at the hand of voldemort and voldemort didnt die at the hand of harry. So in this scenario, voldemort wins because nobody can challenge his magical ability, not because the prophecy said only harry can kill him.

Like in the book, the elder wand will never turn against its master, just like how in the book the curse backfired of instead of flashing forward, it flashed backwards. Which means that Voldemort thought it all out well. Nagini on her masters behalf is like a proxy method. With Harry after telling him that he was the master, when trying to appealing to any shred of light of hope when telling him about his fate Harry saw in Limbo; Voldemort didn't believe cause he's an atheist (not with lack of religious faith but believing that as we "spiritually" not materially came from nothing, we go back to that state. Materially is of course science we all know, mind u). The wand had a "bloody" reputation as people have killed for it but those who lost ownership and lived aren't known all that well.
@juliie007
@juliie007 3 жыл бұрын
Voldermont may have feared using the elder wand against Snape because he wasn’t sure that he could defeat him in one strike to win its allegiance. Snapes was the 2nd most powerful death eater after him and arguably one of the strongest wizards alive at the time. Had Snapes lived longer he could have come close to acquiring a similar level of magical prowess comparable to Voldermont and Albus Dumbledore. Voldermont aware of this possibility would have hesitated taking down Snapes in a duel coz he knew of Snapes prodigious magical skills and if anyone knew his tricks better it was likely to be Snapes. The last thing Voldermont needed is another repeat of the night when he broke into the Potter’s family home 16 yrs earlier.

Okay let's suppose voldemort left after fatally wounding Snape thinking he got the complete ownership of the wand. The trio rushes in and somehow they managed to save Snape with the help of some miracle potion and at the same time Snape gives the memories to Harry. Now knowing the true nature of Snape via his memories and after the battle is over and Voldemort is dead Harry reveals Snape's loyalty towards Dumbledore. What impact do you think it would have on the community/the school? Perceptions of the teachers towards Snape? Reactions he would get form everyone else, position in Hogwarts offered to him? Change in relationship between him and Harry? And how his life gets changed after this revelation?

they would see him as the unsung hero but its not very simple. i think they would praise him slowly and make him aware of their gratefulness in his mission but i doubt severus would stay. he only stayed because he was in the agreement with dumbledore, he could have left and focused on excelling further in magic. he couldda fell in love once more. that school was never somewhere he was happy in, it was a place of bullying and a constant reminder of lily's loss to him.

I think we’re leaving out something important. To cast the unforgivable curses, you really have to mean it. As Moody/Crouch jr. said in the DADA class, the class could cast the spell on him and he wouldn’t get so much as a nosebleed. It’s quite likely, given Voldemort’s reluctance, he wouldn’t have been able to cast the spell with any wand; let alone with a wand belonging to his victim.

james and sirius are assholes.
@denizkenger52
@denizkenger52 3 жыл бұрын
@polaryn When they were young: - they bullied snape for at least 5 years considering their first little heated interaction was on the hogwarts express when they were having a dispute about values relating to the sorting ceremony. classic gryffindor vs slytherin ideology clash. Also, sirius did let harry know that snape, when coming to hogwarts, knew more about the dark arts than most 6th years and that james always hated the dark arts, which was a reason for them to bully him. Also lupin mentioned james and sirius loved hexing people they didnt get along with, and snape became a specialised target. So continuous bullying to someone, especially the fact that it was group bullying makes them seem very low and cowardly people for me considering they werent brave enough to approach him 1v1. This can be seen by the two times we see a direct approach between the two sides. The one where james hangs him upside down was straight up cowardice. First of all, it was a 2vs1. Then also it was an attack on snape who was reading his book and james did a surprise attack on him, as he already had his wand out whereas snape did not have his wand out and wasnt aware of what was happening. Also, since he didnt have his wand out, james disarmed him before he could take it out, which just shows no honour really. Then, when snape picked up his wand to fight back, sirius did a full body bind charm when snape was focused on james, again showing the advantage of 2vs1. Moving onto the other occurrence, sirius tried to get snape killed against lupin whilst he was transformed into a werewolf, which is attempted murder btw but the point i wanna touch on here is the fact that he tried to make werewolf lupin take snape out for him rather than engaging him himself which again just shows cowardice imo. - They bullied him for very invalid reasons such as the fact that he was interested in the dark arts, and james hated the dark arts plus sirius had a hate towards anything that was similar to his family's ideology which supported dark magic. So they already started showing prejudiced views just because of snape's interests and tried to punish him for showing interest in that area of magic, which is just so unfair. Its like being bullied for liking Boxing as a hobby, because people think those people are going to be gangsters and abuse their boxing skills to harm innocent people. Its a very narrow way to think and completely unfair for them to pass judgement that anyone who enjoys the dark arts is evil and should be bullied for it. We can see during that conflict where snape is hung upside down that james and sirius didnt need a reason to attack snape, as it was mentioned that they only did it because sirius was bored, which just shows how low they are again. Then im guessing jealousy of snape and lily's relationship may have affected james and caused him to bully snape more, which just displays how insecure he is to be resorting to bullying the competition with his friends. - James made an extremely low levelled offer to lily when he said that he would stop bullying snape if she gave him a chance. This is just showing that he is extremely insecure about himself and so desperate that he has to threaten a love interest to go out with him using the fact that he can bully her friend. Its just pathetic tbh. - Sirius, at the age of 16, attempted murder on snape. This action was done when he knew he sent snape to the shrieking shack when lupin would be transformed as a werewolf and would be out of control enough to kill anyone that interacted with him. So, he basically sent snape there to die. This event has two victims btw. Snape is the obvious victim since he would be dying, but also lupin. Sirius was so ruthless that he didnt even care about his best friend lupin, who would be killing a fellow student without his consent as he went to the shrieking shack for the purpose to not harm people when he turned. Also, his soul would be ripped considering killing rips the soul, so sirius would be damaging his best friend's soul. In addition, there would be an investigation if snape was killed by lupin and the ministry may prove that lupin killed snape, which would mean lupin would be going to azkaban because of his best friend setting him up to murder someone. And considering lupin was already were negative about his lycanthropy, it would destroy him to know his condition was used to kill a classmate, so he would feel forever guilty and would probably have trust issues as he would have been taken advantage of by one of his best friends. - During 6th and 7th year, we dont have much information on them but im guessing none of the marauders apologised for bullying snape. Maybe they did stop bullying him, but there is no information on that part and even if they did stop bullying him, i would only give that to lily, who james probably wanted to hold his promise to by not bullying snape so she would give him that chance. This would mean he only stopped his bad ways for the selfish reason of gaining lily rather than actually realising what he did was wrong. Neither james nor sirius apologised and even if james wanted to forget about everything, you cant expect snape to just be okay with forgetting about all the abuse he went through just because the people who abused him are ready to move on with their lives and forget about all the abuse they inflicted on him. When they grow up: - Obviously james didnt get the chance to grow up much as he was murdered at the age of 21, so only 3 years after graduating from hogwarts. Considering the things i mentioned above, I dont think he had the time to really change much in those 3 years because he had such a fast life where he joined the order and then had to go on a hide from voldemort that he didnt have the time to sit down and think through his past to reflect on himself and feel remorse about what he had done to snape. Also, snape joining the deatheaters may have justified the bullying for him, even though it shouldnt because the bullying was before snape joined the death eaters so the bullying would be a punishment for something he hasnt even done yet. So based on these, i think the fact that he didnt apologise to snape and attempt to redeem himself shows during this time could be understandable during the years he was hiding or fighting against deatheaters as part of the order since it would be very difficult for him to meet up with snape who would at the time be a deatheater. However, thats 3 years of his life after meeting snape where he has done no direct damage to snape but hasnt apologised for the damage done in the past, and the rest of the years is the 5 years where he did continuous damage with the help of sirius and potentially peter, and then another two years where we know he most likely didnt apologise and we dont know how much conflict they had. So in summary, 5 years asshole james, 2 years unknown, 3 years not asshole but still could be in asshole mindset towards snape plus still hasnt apologised for asshole ways in the past. So overall, he is still an asshole in school life definitely, and potentially remains an asshole until death, but we dont have enough info on his mindset during that time as he was so busy with protecting his family and the wizarding war. - Now moving onto sirius...As soon as he gets out of azkaban and encounters Snape after all those years, he insults Snape in a very school like way which sounds like a reference to the bullying comments in the past. Clearly he's still in that bully mindset. When snape is knocked out, he carries snape out by levitating him and he purposefully hits snape's head and body onto random surfaces in the shrieking shack on purpose, as harry notices. Also, sirius and snape have an argument when in grimmauld place, where sirius calls snape "snivellus" which was the nickname they used to call him when they bullied him, again showing that he doesnt feel like it was wrong but he actually wants to repeat the bullying feats to an adult snape as well. Then, lupin and harry are talking about sirius' attempted murder on snape, sirus justifies it by saying snape desrved it and that he should have minded his own business. SO even if we assumed he wasnt aware of the seriousness of his actions when he was younger, he makes it very clear that he was aware of what would happen to snape and even his adult self agrees that snape deserved to die for the mere reason that he should have minded his own business. He shows his ruthlessness and cruelness as he sees it fair to pass of death sentence to punish someone for such a reason. In conclusion, i feel sirius was an asshole during his school life and adulthood, however, james was an asshole during school life but maybe wasnt an asshole in the 3 years outside of school but maybe still had the asshole mindset to snape and didnt do anything to make up for the damage he had inflicted on snape for all those years.

This topic is one of my favourites. I think most people can agree with what is said in the video, along with him thinking that the wand belonged to Snape. The fact that Voldemort sees Snape dying this way instead of the killing curse as a more honourable death just shows how twisted he was. He rewarded his most loyal servant with an excruciatingly painful death. Apposed to a painless one

Snape is possibly the person who was most like Voldemort out of his followers. I don't think the killing curse would work on Snape, because the killing curse requires the user wanting the other person dead. Snape was a genius and Voldemort respected him.

No because not killing makes you the owner of the wand but defeating him. Harry came there to be killed, in other words he could not be defeated by Voldemort, only killed ....the same way Dumbledore was killed by Snape, not defeated because they had plotted that.

Hey man! Thanks for the video. Even though it had made me reconsider some perceptions I had about this scene, I strongly disagree in some things: your use of the word "compassion" for Voldemort. And your notion of Snape knowing that Voldy was going to kill him. Snape was described as a smart, skillful man. He sure knew Voldy was going to kill him in the Shrieking Shack, but not a few minutes before. I guess he had too much on the plate. If he had been a little bit more farsighted, he would have "find the boy" despite Voldemort's orders. Snape probably didn't believe in the deathly hollows. Maybe he actually believed he was the "right owner" of the wand, bit Voldy wouldn't kill him if he showed no intention of rebellion... Perhaps, he just didn't like confrontation! Apparently, he was not keen on killing people even after "compassionately" help Dumbledore have a less violent death. Which brings me to a tought that is hard for me to figure out: did Voldemort ever use Snape to kill anyone else? For a mafia boss that evil, I find it hard to believe he didn't use Snape more often. I guess, he was indeed a thoughtful, mercifully, condescendent Dark Lord: he gave Lilly the chance to escape to begin with under Snape's petition...

I just assumed it was an unwritten rule based on the legend of the three brothers. When the elder brother is killed, the thief used a knife to slit his throat AND then stole the wand. And since Voldemort thought that Snape killed the last owner with his own wand before he stole it, I thought it was like a requisite to kill the master of the Elder Wand without using the actual wand. And since I don't picture Voldemort using an actual physical form of attack, Nagini was the next logical option. Anyway, nice video!
@mithosirving

this is accurate, above all death eaters I believe Voldemort had real respect and admiration for Severus, he saw a lot of himself in snape, I think he would never have even tried to spare what he thought was a filthy Mudblood, had snape not asked him too. he gave Lilly many chances but in the end, he did what he always did, like in the battle of Hogwarts he wanted to spare snape but in the end, he did what he always did

I have a question about the "muggle born's being told they're magical" video. If the parents refuse, what will happen to the child? Because despite not being educated, their magic would probably manifest anyhow like what happened with Tom RIddle far before Dumbledore came to visit him. How would they prevent this child to accidentally break the statute of secrecy?
