I would be a hypocrite to imply that I've ever been a fan of ANYTHING Kardashian/Jenner related, but love the wisdom in Iyanla's reply regarding the name "Stormi". It brings to mind the old proverb, " Anyone can find the dirt in someone. Be the one that finds the gold". That's my lesson learned for today.

Funny that when Iyanla stated that her father told her to "sit down, shut up and listen" all the women were in shock as if it was so mean. Until she told them why. People really are so quick to find fault in discipline (nowadays), that's why so many kids don't sit down, shut up or listen to their parents/
@QueenOfTheDamned

They were in shock before she explained which would probably be most people's reactions. But even Iyanla said herself she thought her dad was being mean until she grew to understand.

my mom gave me the SAME advice. lol i was just about to say how this is actually biblical. lol. she didnt use that verse but i believe theres a verse in Matthew when Jesus says "its not the thing that goes into a man's mouth that defiles him, but the things that come out" (he was talking to the Pharisees). I always remember that and try to mind my speech now as well as talk less and listen more BEFORE offering an opinion....its a work in progress lol

Sadly yes. Many Black people are still running on the brainwashing inflicted on our ancestors during slavery and colonialism. They are afraid of anything non christian. Iyanla is a priestess in the West African Yoruba indigenous spiritual tradition, which many call Ifa, Orisha, or Isese. Thank The Creator that many of us now are waking up and 'reverting' to the spiritual paths cut by our forefathers and mothers before we were forced to abandon them or die. Though she's not limited to it, that tradition definitely informs her overall spiritual practice and helps her do her work in helping people heal, especially Black folk.

It is something we believe in Islam too, your name affects you because that is what people constantly call you and fill your ears with. So there are certain names that shouldn't be kept such as 'Imaan' or 'Deen' as they both mean faith, you'll find yourself saying 'oh Imaan just left' and you're filling that specific house with an energy that means 'faith has left us'. I always found that so fascinating. (if you do keep names like this, it's best if they're hyphenated so it's not just one meaning)

Believe in what? the fact that names have meanings? Even the Bible attributes meaning to a person's name, and as for name change as part of one's spiritual journey, we saw it in the Bible as well with Saul's name change to Paul. As for some of the other things she said: the roots is biblical. Her father essentially told her as a young woman, "Peace, be still", and insofar as the wording she used to lift Baby Stormi as opposed to villyfing an inncent child, she simply employed the instruction of 1 Peter 3:10, Colossians 4:6 and Ephesians 4:29
