You can use your cellphone in Indonesia by registering your IMEI at the airport, it can be used for 90 days. For public transportation I think almost all over the world has its own payment system and in Indonesia you can buy the card at the nearest mini market. And most importantly if you are in trouble ask the people around you because Indonesians are known to be friendly and kind they will definitely help you.

Of the thousands of foreign tourists who came to Jakarta, you are the only one who complain about the difficulties in various things. You should find out that in Jakarta there are no city buses like in Laos or Bangkok.. what exists is the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) or MetroTrans Bus system operated by TransJakarta and more popularly known as Busway. Metrosystem in Jakarta includes: BRT TransJakarta, LRT, MRT and KRL Commuter train.. to ride these public transportation modes, all payment is non-cash!! So you have to buy a transportation card like e-Money which you can purchase at Indomaret or Alfamaret outlets or at train stations or bus stops that provide ticket machines. Because the system is integrated, you can use 1 card for all types of modes available.. you only need to top up your card as needed.. you can even use the e-Money to shop at Indomaret / Alfamaret, pay for parking. Pay for tolls, entrance tickets to recreational places, etc. So there's nothing complicated if you not to lazy to ask or make a research before you come or find out on the internet!!

Jakarta is a city of contrasts.....on one hand, you get the parts where it is very busy, not so clean, hectic and crowded (a lot of the places in your video)....and then there are parts which are very modern and relatively clean...(not really seen in your video)....however....the traffic (and air pollution) in all areas are more or less the same (heavy) but a bit more organized in the modern parts......yes, for a mega city, the people are generally friendly but as in everywhere in the world, there are always some rotten apples...so you still need to be vigilante especially when it comes to securing your belongings....looking forward to your following videos in Indonesia

On behalf of Indonesians, I'm so sorry you have so many difficulties in your adventure. I must admit that the government lacks information, not just for foreigners but also for anybody who's not from Jakarta. Regarding the SIM Card, you can get an Indonesian SIM Card that works on your phone, but you have to buy it at the airport or at the official phone provider (mostly in the mall). Normal kiosks don't have access to register foreign country IMEI. And regarding the port, I think you went to the wrong port. You went to the old port which only serves traditional domestic ships. I think the modern one is located not far from there.

while you stayed in Jakarta you haven't explored other areas of Jakarta, there are still many places in Jakarta that are very modern and clean such as in the SCBD area, Bunderan HI, Jalan Sudirman and Thamrin, luxurious and super modern malls such as Grand Indonesia Mall, Pacific Place, Senayan City and many other luxurious malls throughout Jakarta, South Jakarta area with comfortable places, ..! in every big city in the world there are good and bad sides such as in New York, Los Angeles ... It's more like culture shock on their part...while it is ideal/best for tourists/travellers to research beforehand the countries they are going to visit....there are travellers/tourists that Just 'wing it'..and just see what happens when they set foot on the foreign land, the downside is that they may end up with wrong conclusions when they encounter problems especially when there is a language barrier when communicating with locals (who barely speak english)...... Perhaps upon entering Indonesia, the Indonesian tourism bureau/government need to make foreign visitors (especially first time visitors)to be aware of how to get SIM cards, how to ride public transportations, etc.....

As a Jakartan, yes, it is badcity planning because it is an organic city that grew without any planning since before the colonial era, compared to North American cities, which typically use master plans before they are built. But calling it dirty is an insult. Jakarta is big, and there are many modern districts in South Jakarta with clean, well-maintained pedestrian areas and neighborhoods. I mean, what do you expect? If you stay in a ghetto area, you get the vibe of a ghetto area and if you stay in middle income area you get the middle income area vibe, if you stay in the modern part of Jakarta you get modern vibe. Is matter of how much money you have to afford to stay in well maintain area.
