Let’s take a hard look at Japan-a country often underestimated due to its stagnant economy, lack of natural resources, and daunting demographic challenges. Yet, contrary to popular belief, Japan's future might be brighter than ever.
Let’s explore how Japan has resiliently bounced back from economic stagnation, redefined its global relationships, particularly with the United States, and strategically positioned itself against growing threats from China. From labor reforms to military upgrades and shifting economic strategies, we'll piece together why Japan's outlook is far from grim.
Join me as we unravel the surprising resilience and strategic brilliance of a nation poised to play a crucial role in the geopolitics of Asia.

Our economy is struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.

With the Japanese yen losing value to inflation and other currencies gaining traction, uncertainty looms. Yet, many still trust in the dollar's perceived safety. Worried about my ¥420,000 retirement savings losing value, I seek alternative security for my money.

Just because their zoning system is not like a western Suburban system, it does not mean everyone is crammed into apartments and condos. Even in Tokyo and Kyoto, you are able to find sizeable standalone homes in the city. There are still plenty of big rural land and homes. The urbanization is more a result of the younger generation's preference than the lack of land.

Japan needs to improve in five key areas: 1. Increase Wages: Raise salaries to ensure young people can afford to live independently. 2. Develop Small Towns: Transform small towns into vibrant small cities to encourage young families to settle and thrive. 3. Reduce Work Hours: Cut the excessive workday from 16 hours to 7 hours and eliminate mandatory after-hours gatherings. 4. Support Young Couples: Provide financial incentives to new young couples to help them start their lives together. 5. Invest in Space Colonization: Begin establishing colonies on Mars, as SpaceX's projected timeline for Mars missions extends to 2089.

Japan may be the first ones to learn how to thrive on a lower birth rate country as it has suffered from it for decades. Now EVERY advanced economies are going through that right now. Immigration has helped but we now see that mass immigration is causing social unrest because there wasn't enough of a capacity to integrate/assimilate them. While Japan has just recently made it easier to immigrate there (but not easy to become a citizen), their is still strong national identity.

🎯 Key points for quick navigation: 🌆 Japan's economy has returned to its pre-bubble era highs, and its largest union has secured a 5% wage hike for its 7 million members. ⚡️️ Japan's demographic challenges are not as severe as those of South Korea, China, and Germany, and it remains a global leader in automobiles, semiconductors, and electronics. 🕰️️ Japan's relationship with the United States has changed significantly, with Japan buying its way into the inner circle of American allies to counter China's aggressive moves in the Indo-Pacific. 💪 Japan is increasing its defense spending by 60% over the next five years, making it one of the largest increases by a democratic nation since the Reagan Era. 🏛️ Japan's shipbuilding industry is still significant, producing substantial tonnage and having a rich history of deep-water vessels. 👥 Japan's semiconductor industry is also powerful, with companies like Nikon and Tokyo Electron focusing on supply chain management. 🔒 The US would likely defend Taiwan in the event of a Chinese invasion, which could lead to severe economic implications for China. 🌊 The Strait of Malacca is a critical choke point through which China imports energy and trade passes; shutting it down could severely impact China's economy. 17:25 That bit about Sakhalin is dishonest. In 1875, Japan and Russia agreed that Russia should have Sakhalin and Japan all of the Kuril Islands. With funding from New York banker Schiff, Japan launched a sneak attack and won the Russo-Japan war of 1905, and gained back the southern half of Sakhalin. Then, in 1918, while Russia was busy with the Soviet Union, Japan stole the northern half of Sakhalin. Japan still held the Kurils. At Yalta, the USSR agreed to join the USA against Japan. At the end of that war, the US grabbed Okinawa and the USSR grabbed all of Sakhalin and the Kurils. Japan still claims four of the southern Kuril islands. It is highly unlikely that Russia will give those islands to Japan. And no way will Japan seize Sakhalin again.

Though not a geophysicist, I confess to being concerned by the recent uptick in tremors along the Cascadia subduction zone. Is it possible that a release in the southern portion of the zone in Northern California and Southern Oregon could propagate itself along the entire length of the zone, producing an earthquake of level 9 or above from Vancouver, BC, through Seattle, Portland, and Northern California? Could this in turn cause the adjacent San Andreas fault to slip, likewise producing a severe earthquake throughout coastal California? The question is, would China be able to take advantage of the ensuing disorder throughout the Pacific Coast of the US and Canada so as to invade Taiwan successfully?

The no suburbs as the reason why people don't get kids is insane and idiotic. When Japans population was booming, they still lived in dense areas, but had more kids. Same with the west. Suburbs are a new thing and no correlation with them and high birthrates. In fact it points to the opposite, as the nuclear family and suburban families in the US get far fewer kids than inner city families. Birthrates are extremely complicated, and you're completely unqualified, citing no sources and give shallow analysis grasping at straws from various videos or pop-Sci articles you've read. I'd recommend for future videos you avoid doing the real life lore trap, and covering too many topics at once, and instead focusing your analysis on a small but focused area. If you want to talk about the Japanese navy, make a video about that. It works better than this jumbled script that jumps from topic to topic.

Mate, weaker yen actually helps Japanese companies. If you don’t know anything, the rise of Japan is very much related with its weak yen, which was much weaker than it’s current position, the weaker yen attracts more companies investing in Japan more than ever, it also helps its exports. The salary rises will fix the problem, it just need some times for it to catch up with the inflation.
@shiroi5672
@shiroi5672 26 күн бұрын
@@Seibanori Most normal keynesian economics enjoyer. No mate, a poorer population doesn't make the country richer. Productivity does not increase together with inflation as it did in the 80's. A stable and strong currency helps exports, not one that loses value every time, that's why people do international commerce only on dollars. Japanese wages are already too high for what it produces, we don't simply rise salaries without increasing productivity, that's increasing inflation and losing investment due to lack of profit. Inflation is not a magical number, it means money is losing value. We stop inflation, not anything else.

Japans products are sought after because of how well they’re manufactured, but because of the higher yen they can’t export as many cars, TVs, and high quality goods. A weaker yen means Japan will produce more quality products this is why China wants their Yuan to remain weaker than how it actually is.

@@shiroi5672 I get wut you trying to say, but first thing first, Japan hasn’t seen a major inflation until last year, which they called it “the lost decade”. It wasn’t a normal situation as inflation was supposed to happen along with salary increases, which Japan also didn’t see any of it until last year. The country has trapped into its early 90s for decades because the country was paying tremendous amounts of debt. If you looked into Japan economy history, you will probably surprise to find out that all the historical points of which the Yen stood high against the dollar was the part where Japan was either doing pretty bad in economy or the economy crisis would come soon. Japan isn’t US mate, they can’t really share a stronger currency approach as they don’t hold any actual resources to support their currency value like the US did with the oil. Instead, they always try to find another way to support their economy power.

The only problem is that the LDP is not truly liberal, they keep embracing keynesianism like it's the 90's, while promoting inflation, increasing taxes, regulations and the state's spending. However, Japan, like Argentina, has a good chance to become the top economy. The third and fourth largest party, Ishin no Kai and Komeito, have almost the same amount of votes as the LDP, they just need to capture the heart of the uninformed. Ishin no Kai is a libertarian party, and Komeito has reduction of the state as one of it's roots, while both thankfully still defending the military. By the end of 2025 we will discover if Japan will win the 2030s or not. The left has only a third of the total votes, and half of it is on a centre-left, 'liberal' party, the CDP, so at least the chance of the economy getting even worse is low.

Overall, Canada appears to have a more favorable future outlook, particularly in terms of economic growth, demographic trends, and social inclusivity. Japan's future remains strong but will require addressing demographic challenges and continuing its innovation-driven growth.

The key problem with the whole video is Japan's demographic problems. Without some kind of immigration Japan will be too old to project power (economic or militarily) in the region or even protect itself from aggression. As the old saying goes: 'demographics is destiny'. It will also need to spend increasing sums of money that it won't have (because of the shrinking tax base) caring for the higher numbers of elderly. I also doubt the policies to turn around the birthrate will have any effect because they've tried similar policies before (in Japan and other countries with the same problem) and nothing changed. Falling birthrates and shrinking population are almost impossible to turn around expect through mass immigration.

Your first minute is where you lost me. You casually glossed over Japan's demographic catastrophe. It doesn't really matter what the government does their demographics have been terminally low for decades and decades at this point they're way past the point of no return...not to mention there hasnt been any notable increase in birthrate there either which further discredits your thesis.
@Andrew-xw4zj

exactly, continually declining population and low birthrate means stagnation, turning inwards and relative decline not outward power projection.

@@Andrew-xw4zjyou're exactly right. The longterm result is likely the end of Japan as a modern advanced manufacturing based industrial/technological economy with the ability to project hard and soft power and a return to an internalized much smaller more rural agricultural economy probably rice becoming the backbone of their economy again.

Even still the Japanese public would never approve of the government using military action and war to take control of the islands again.

Incorrect analysis, not sure for what propaganda. By JP' & KR' joint actions aligned with troublemaker US against CN, all in ASIA have reacted negatively, if not boycotting their products outright, had lowered their priority. Anti-CN is not just that but also seen as anti-developing nations as well. This now being witnessed by the drop in sales and export of their consumer goods. CN's products will be as good very soon, if not better already and always cheaper thus super hard for them to compete. All products if priced fairly will have their own market share BUT NOT IF the producing nation did something that pisses off the market such as being a bully and being anti-competitive. The market will then turn to support the underdog. JP’s &KR’s politicians still understood not that the CN & RU are most important to it. US is technically bankrupt. If JP suffered a mega quake, who do they think can help and quickly that they will need most? Joining BRICS is the only way out for them.

He is wrong and has a very narrow perspective of Japan as a country. Japan has been in a recession for over 20 years. They are set in their own way of running their economy. Aaron keep saying that they have had years to change, but nothing has changed. They have and will continue to rely on the US and the US will not let them win as long as they are the super power.

Productivity is stagnant. So Japanese economy is hardly moving forward. Japanese companies are not investing in Japan. Too high inflation and debt.

Japan has had a stagnant economy since the late 90s and early 2000s and they have an aging population the thing about china is that it has always been overpopulated and china can’t take care of over 1.2 billion people. Lose a quarter of the population would be weight off the governments back and make china actually stronger in the long run. Less congestion in cities and less pollution. Japan 🇯🇵 is always being talked about as long Japan is being controlled by the us it will never become the super power it can be. No country will until you focus only on the future of your country and not on making America 🇺🇸 stronger which most countries outside G-7 are ditching dollars including 🇯🇵 who is selling treasuries as well.

The CCP creates more problem than it solves. China's current position is the result of the hard work of everyday Chinese people, who have succeeded in spite of the CCP's incompetence. The world at large distrusts the CCP thanks in part to its wolf w@nker diplomacy and illegal fishing fleets (which steal and destroy sea life in other countries economic zones'). The only ones hurting themselves are those who follow and believe the words of despots.

Your point of view is not the case among Japanese people. Japan's economy continues to decline, and the government has no better way to deal with it. There is almost no sound left in the world. Collapse, complaining a little bit. Moreover, Mount Fuji is about to erupt, causing many people to leave Japan for a long time. After all, life is the most important.

Are you sure?! The stock market is being propped up by American money. However, the yen is collapsing and the economy has gone into recession. Because economic prospects are so bad, people are not getting married. The number of births are dropping further because unlike the West, Japanese have few births outside wedlock. Japan seems to be in a downward death spiral.

Badly researched video looking at Japan's demographics, scientific research and patent stats compared to any leading developing countries like China, Malaysia trends already prove that Japan is declining the only way Japan is keeping still against their decline is due to USA ally dominance This video is way to what you call propaganda too much bias towards the west or rather the biases on "global community" countries The worst part is the economic analysis, Japan hasn't bounced back from economic regression or stagnation it still faces the same economic problem like its allies as Yen is tied to US Dollar Japan introduction of monetary policies which was cope short term economic policies were what lead to increasing number of foreign US debts for the countries idk how this video even ignores that Even in pure old terms/metrics as new metrics are poisoned best metric to judge economic analysis is simple metric countries where the high networth or skilled individuals moved to and from its an key indicator on countries win for the decade Its 2024 the first half of the 2020-2030 only major part Japan ever had was the real estate boom due to wealthy immigrant Chinese buying up all the properties there's no major economic, technological or simply societal advancement for slow progression culture society such as Japan Japan labor reform what reform as Japan is top countries for worst country to work in the entire world with number of hrs worked and death by overworking in Japan there's no reform stop the cap
