When the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship, it was supposed to usher Jayson Tatum into a different tier in the discussions about the NBA’s best players…But fast forward to 3 months later and he's still at the center of a lot of scrutiny.
And it feels like he still has more to prove. In this video I go over the reasons why.

This narrative that “he doesn’t show up when his shot isn’t falling” is not true at all. Even when the jumper isn’t falling, he’s still the main facilitator, key piece to the defensive scheme, and the leading rebounder. Jayson Tatum is probably the most versatile player in the league rn

I've always said for a long time JT was an overrated scorer so people got it in their head he just puts up points but he is underated at everything but scoring hes probably the best rebounder in the league who's not a center one of the best passers in the league definitely one of the best defenders in the NBA and can actually switch 1-5 he does all the little things right but casual fans don't notice that stuff so the general public thinks he bad

Hard to get recognition when your team wins big during one of your all time biggest shooting slumps. Jason Tatum’s efficiency especially his jump shot has just not been landing well (all too frequent sub 30% from 3 nights) and then to get benched because across the whole Olympics he went 0/16 on jump shots specifically, yeah that’s tough. He’s obviously a superstar talent and we’ve seen that in the playoffs (51 points most in a game 7 for example). Truthfully he just needs to be less corny and get out of this slump. If he does that and they repeat honestly they just have to take him seriously.

ive had this discussion with my roommate a lot (hes a celtics fan and im a knicks fan) but people can hate on tatum for being cringe but the Kobe related hate to him is ODD. The man is actively grieving the death of his idol who he became close with who died just a few years after that without (in his mind probably) being able to fully develop a relationship throughout Tatums whole career. People are mocking the way the dudes grieving the death of a friend and basically an older brother or uncle to him. Kinda odd

Tatum is a great player and the critics will push him to be a monster in the game . When his haters see him become unstoppable it will be too late for them. Making him angry will push him to quickly become a decider, a tougher player, a general on the court as a Jordan or a Kobe mentality. The sky is the limit for him as of next season. I can't wait to see him become the monster that the NBA has creating with all those critics, disrespects and hates. Critics make you grow up fast and that's what's going to happen in a few weeks from now 🌍💯💯

The fact that people can push so many knocks against him but never actually pin down the factor that makes him bad is the reason why I never take this seriously. You’ll have a guy say it's his charisma and nothing more then have someone completely contradict that and say he was never a good player to begin with despite not having anything other than a subjective opinion to back those words up and then we just go back and forth and back and forth from topic to topic while never actually developing a point as to why he's not good.

I think the fact that he came into the league and was like a 95 rating player and pretty much just stayed between 94-96 all his career. I think most of us fan of his really thought he'd start pushing towards that level 99 player by now considering his early success. Whereas JB started off at an 80 and slowly progressed into what he is now which is probably a 93-94 player. Considering the trajectory this might be the year JB surpasses JT. @@HeltForfra I mean, I’m a firm believer that they would have won the championship either way injuries or not. It’s just very easy to make jokes about the Celtics and some of the jokes even having a little truth to them (Brown being the real #1 option, Tatum playing below his standards not mattering for winning etc…) makes it even funnier for every nba fan who doesn’t like the Celtics. I get the argument of “playing who’s in front of you” but that just hurts their legacy so much when most of the eastern conference was hurt. @@HeltForfra yeah I get that, it really is moving the goalposts. But the NBA is a entertainment business, basketball comes second. So the Celtics are just the perfect combination being a strong team and being “unlikeable” to the general NBA fan who watches KZbin or First Take or whatever else there is. And you gotta admit, Tatum sure as hell isn’t helping when he goes for contested midrange shots and ‘We did it’ or ‘what are they gonna say now’. He makes it too easy 😂.
