Send an email, get no response. Send a second email, get no response. Send a third email, get a response that says "we'll have maintenance take a look at it" send an email 3 days later, no response. Send another email, "Sorry, maintenance will be by today" and nothing happens. Finally a month later maintenance comes in, says you broke it, and the apartment will bill you for it.

She mentioned in her book that there were people working on her house like the whole time she lived there. The contractors would fix something, but then they would "find something else" so it was like her house kept breaking. I think she was getting fucked over and they were scamming her. She was a very young adult without any family to give her advice, and due to her relationship with her mom, she was someone who was very easy to manipulate and take advantage of. I don't blame her for hating owning a home after going through that crap though

🤔....yall ever realize that this was a "tell-all" book? It's SUPPOSED TO sound dramatic and in books like those, ppl tend to stretch the truth to get a more dramatic reaction out of ppl reading. Like EVERYTHING was just trauma inducing. Also in an interview she said "SOUNDS LIKE hush money to me" when they tried to give her money 🤦‍♂️ that isn't even "legally binding" she could've taken it and STILL RELEASED THE BOOK. Every little thing surrounding the book has to be dramatic as well, she has to SELL THE STORY 😂

I'm a 2-time homeowner now, and I do LOVE the freedom that comes with owning your home, I would also like the freedom to just notify the landlord when something breaks down! To be able to just send a text "the washing machine went out," and then within a day or two, it's professionally fixed, with no hassle or extra cost to me, sounds relaxing! If I had tons of money, owning a home would be a lot more freeing, because I wouldn't have to stress about upgrades, remodels or repairs. Unfortunately though, I'm not wealthy, so I just make it work until I have another option! For example, my kitchen desperately needs renovating (structural deterioration problems, but not unsafe or anything), I need a new water heater soon, my AC unit will need replaced soon, and I'm always worried about something breaking down. It's just that stuff is always on my mind. 😆 first world problems...

I’d love to know how much you pay per month in rent. You should consider how much rent is going to increase by the time you retire and how you’re going to afford rent when you presumably won’t be working. My mortgage is locked in for another 25 years.
@yeppers-ow8nf

The difference is when you buy a house. You eventually get to a point where you no longer have to make monthly payments. When you rent an apartment, you will always make monthly payments. Not the mention once those monthly payments go up They rarely if ever come back down, And let's not forget the fact that you can always resell a house for profit. Can't do that with an apartment.

In her book one thing she said that while in therapy her therapist had asked about the home and she had said there was always, always something to be fixed. Dealing with maintenance for apartment complex is different at every location. I lived in a 1 bedroom $900 a month, and they took care of everything that went wrong. While a buddy of mine lived in a $1,800 1 bedroom and he complained about maintenance and office management being terrible. The higher doesn't guarantee better service. While the lower pay doesn't guarantee bad service. It's truly hit or miss in any pay range.

I always advise people to look into their renters rights. In almost every state the tenant has more rights than the landlord wants you to know about. Just document ALL INTERACTIONS. They want to meet in person? Do it in front of your camera/ring doorbell/ raspberry pi whatever you have, get one. They want to email SAVE THEM. 99 PERCENT OF THE TIME you can hold them accountable with no cost to yourself. There are literal sectors of your local government dedicated to this. Not fixing something required by your state? Report it. They retaliate? Report it. Most people just submit to slumlords and don't realize they have leverage

In under 10 years I have had to replace my water heater 3 times, my AC, the furnace, repair a busted main line, replace the appliances, replace some fucked up flooring, etc. I'm sure I'm forgetting something lol. Three months later the basement flooded and I had to replace the pump. Yes, there is a ton of maintenance when it comes to owning a house. You have to pay mortgage, trash, water, gas, electricity, internet, shovel snow on your walkway, mow the lawn, fix anything that goes wrong with plumbing or any appliances and make sure you have insurance. Honestly, it's not very worth it if you're not making enough money to pay for all of that. That's why I wouldn't recommend owning a house unless you have a big family moving into it, because you're definitely going to need some help.

Idk why when it comes to renting vs homeownership everyone all of a sudden thinks they’re an accountant. When you are a homeowner, you are responsible for the mortgage, insurance, property taxes, upkeep, and any repairs that have to happen (which can be tens of thousands of dollars at a time). You also have to pay the interest on your mortgage which means you end up paying significantly more than the property is worth on paper, closing costs to purchase or sell the house, and additional insurance if you aren’t able to put down a full 20% when you buy (and yeah, you should be able to put down 20%, but in this economy who can actually do that?) if you look at all those costs and decide owning a home is still for you/makes sense, great. But if you’re on here shaming people for deciding that they would be financially better positioned by renting, imma bet you didn’t do that and now feel the need to justify your decision by belittling other people for there’s. Because no one who does the math will tell you there is a significant difference between renting and owning unless you happen to buy a property that skyrockets in value while you live there, which is the financial planning equivalent of assuming you’re going to win the lottery.

Home ownership definitely comes with maintenance that is often overlooked. However, one of the best reasons to purchase a home is because it's stabilizes your biggest line item which is housing, assuming you get a fixed rate mortgage. This is now inflation-prood for 30 years for most people. Pricing, especially in metro areas, is wild so I understand this on its own isn't necessarily the only reason you should buy but IMO it's a really good one.

@@lauraflanagan9726 possibly in some states, but it's not the bulk of your payment. My statement is mostly true in a state like CA on the property tax side, because we actually cap the rate of increase so it's not so aggressive. I realize that goes against what everyone thinks of CA but your base property tax can't go up more than 2% per year. In any event, if the bulk of your housing payment is fixed that's a good thing because it's predictable.

As a landlord myself; it’s hard finding people to do the work. Something’s broke, I call around the day my tenants tell me it’s broke (meanwhile I’m at my day job). Takes the person 3-5 days to get out, then they need to order a part etc. then if insurance gets implicated the repair waits until insurance gives the okay. I know there are a lot of bad landlords, but the idea that you can get something fixed the next day is unrealistic unless of course you have a dedicated maintenance staff on-hand and insurance isn’t involved. More house owners need to speak up about this. Owning a house is cool, but the maintenance fees is no joke. Any savings you think your getting from owning can instantly get swept up by the wrong series of things breaking, especially if you don't like to upkeep on things.

Not always, bit for everyone. I been in my home for 4 years this year and I have never had to fix anything. Other than basic battery change to smoke detector and that's not even every year. I used to do the lawn my self but I came to realize that it takes way too long to do it myself. I spend 100 a month and I get all that time back for me to do other stuff. Like enjoy family, friends, get out of town without having to worry about the lawn. It was impossible getting it done during the week and it's just not worth the savings to give up my weekend. I rather pay. Other than that I pay my regular house bills like anyone else who rents. On top of taxes and insurance of course cuz I have it separate from my mortgage (I like it that way) I pay way less than if I would be renting. And don't have to fix anything on a routine. I I'll be prepared for when it does happen but she makes it seem like she got an very old house. And mine ain't a new build just got lucky I guess.

You throw the money away renting. Owning a home is an investment that will take a minimal amount of effort at least. Yes you gotta buy a washer but the dude you're paying could buy four when the time comes. Manage your money and a landlord is just YOU. Might feel worse cause you're using "savings" but at that point it's the purpose you started saving for so don't sweat it. Renting just feels like it's for people that cant really take care of themselves.. I cant imagine a home gets that bad unless you're generally irresponsible, like myself, which really makes renting seem worse cause it can't be very calculated. Who's willing to rent without it being a cope? People with pride and dummy rich people, so basically both really enjoy renting. Condos above the race track type shit fr
@coreyburke3493
@coreyburke3493 10 күн бұрын
@@CookieIsBack024 this is actually not true always. Currently renting is cheaper than owning in almost every market. Example it would cost me $1500 more per month to own a condo similar than my apartment. That's before any maintenance and after a $120k down payment. If you put $120k in an investment account and then add $1500 a month to that account you will basically end up on average with $1.2 million after 20 years or $2.8 million after 30 years. That's on a $600k condo. So the condo would need to be worth those numbers plus whatever I spent in maintenance and whatever closing costs are to break even. Then how do you use your "investment profit"? Well in a condo or house you have to move. Because you have to sell and everything in your area will be just as expensive. Or you can simply invest and then you can use the money however you wish and it follows you wherever you go. If it's cheaper to rent than buy it's a good investment if it's way more expensive to own than rent it's not.

It must be nice to be able to CHOOSE apartment life. Most people don't rent by choice, they rent because the barrier to buying is so high. And end up paying more in rent than mortgage+upkeep. If you like not having to worry, that's great for you if you have the money to pay someone else to take care of everything for you (I will note, there are people you can pay to do the same thing for your home you live in, if you want that).

It's currently cheaper to rent than buy in almost every market right now and that's before you add in the cost to maintain the house or condo. After a $120k down payment a condo similar to my apartment would be $1500 more per month before any maintenance I would need to do. A house would be more like $200k down and $2k more per month. If you were to put all that extra money in the stock market you would probably end up with just as much or more in your investment account after 20-30 years than the house or condo would be worth. The interest you pay on a mortgage plus maintenance means your house has to more than double in value to break even unless you can pay in cash fully.

That said though, I can humbly acknowledge that what I just said is irrelevant to a much more important message behind this sort of video. Owning home or property isn’t for everyone, and the natural conditions of reality don’t even allow it for everyone. Owning these things are incredible if it’s meant for you, but as this example shows sometimes even the people who have all the opportunity many can only imagine sometimes don’t find fulfillment in the things that others might.
