Franklin has alway’s been overrated, and Knowles is not going to have the same elite athletes that he had at Ohio State, so I think he won’t be as successful at Penn State, as he was in Columbus! Ohio State will beat Penn State again, in Columbus in 2025! ❤️🌰🏈

Four of the six losses in the Knowles era at Ohio State were defensive failures in big games. Thirty plus points given up to Michigan and Oregon, 40+ points to Michigan and Georgia. He fared much better after the Oregon loss and a couple weeks working on things with Ryan Day. After that he became less conservative in his game calling and therefore made better use of his athletes.

other people are saying that he was kept from truly implementing his scheme by resistance from DL coach Johnson, and after Oregon, he was given full control of the defense. makes more sense honestly, yet somehow coincides, since Johnson (it is said) likes four down linemen.

I 100% agree with Josh’s take about PSU’s defense. I watched several of their games this year, and IMO it was the best defense I have seen them field in a long time. PSU’s issues were the other side of the ball. They had no receivers who could stretch the field. Warren was a stud, but if they were not on schedule offensively they were in trouble. Also, it took Knowles three years to build our defense. Good luck PSU. If Franklin doesn’t win this year, he’ll need to buff up his resume.

Why would anyone copy Oregon's defense after either of their games against OSU? They were Howard's two highest yardage games and two of the best OSU yards per play games of the year. The question going into the Rose Bowl wasn't whether OSU could handle Oregon's defense - they did fine the first time and even Penn State torched them - it was whether OSU could handle Oregon's offense.

There was a noticeable dropoff this year from Manny Diaz to Tom Allen. While they were still very good, people just wanted the more aggressive scheme that Diaz had. Knowles brings that to a certain extent, more aggressive defense creating turnovers.

The Buckeyes defense in 2019 were great with Larry Johnson and Jeff Hafley working well together. When Larry Johnson has more input the defense gets sacks and lots of TFL and the line puts numerous players in the NFL. Penn State doesn't have a LJ, the do however have a Jim Knowles who they are paying the max for.

I'm not happy with it at all. I believe maybe Jim Knowles wanted to leave that's okay. But you don't do it to arrival. The one thing that would have been worse would if he went to michigan. But this is just totally wrong, and I believe he did it for the money and to be able to beat Ohio State to say he's the best. He's arrogant I knew that before Ohio State got him. But I can't take anything away from him on his coaching ability he is mighty good. But I don't think it's going to help Penn State next year much but the following year Penn State will probably have the best defense in the country and probably win the national title that is their goal when is the goal of every college team and should be. And I'm more concerned now of the Buckeyes and what they do for a DC

Day hired Knowles to implement his specific defensive system => then he didn’t get involved for 2.5 years while Larry Johnson refused to cooperate and basically prevented Jim from elevating Ohio State to an elite, championship caliber defense until the last part of his 3rd season. If losing Jim Knowles ruins the chemistry of OSU then how does PSU buying Knowles and swapping out a current established Def CO possibly make sense? I get it-Knowles has a personality conflict. Probably started with the Oregon game. He had been riding his laurels and then they lost due to feckless defense issues. But if switching isn’t good for OSU it’s hard to see it being good for PSU and for similar reasons.
