For everyone saying Defense is not PSU's issue, you're right. But, they still had to hire a D coordinator and they got a good one. Now, address the receiver position and school allar on foot work and knowing when to throw it away and not force it. Love it, Franklin is going for it.

So he goes out and hires the most difficult D coordinator possible in a year where your d is already slated to take a step back. If you think Knowles ran the D at Ohio State you're sorely mistaken. We’ve got a really high coordination turnover rate. One of the reasons why Franklin struggles to adjust to a certain system over the course of the year is because he’s constantly getting a new guy and revising the system. Say what you will about big game Jimmy but there’s a fire burning in happy valley and it won’t go out until we win it all.

This is a nothing burger. Saban had his coaching staff raided year after year and managed to do just fine. Coaches come and go every year. It's part of having a successful program. That being said, I think Knowles showed a tremendous lack of character in announcing this today. He could have waited a couple of days, joined the team for the celebration at the Shoe and then announced it. Instead, he made today about himself and not the team that he helped coach to a national championship over the last 3 years. He made his little feud with Larry Johnson about today instead of waiting. I've been on this planet for 62 years. There is one thing that is absolutely certain: very few things in this life are actually yours and yours alone. Character is one of those things. Integrity is another. He showed neither by announcing this decision today.

Ok dude your a little off base here. I agree we NEED to get a high level WR before I am comfortable with this team for next year. But, our offense isnt garbage. We have a good O-line, probably the best running backs, and a very talented TE room. Also, coaching money doesn't come from NIL money. And the coordinators at PSU call the plays on the field, so having a couple of the best are pretty important, including recruitment.

James Franklin is one of the best coaches in college football. Penn States issues have been execution. They had 1st and goal against Ohio State this year and number 71 didn't try to block anybody on 3 tries.

This has been my biggest criticism of Penn State forever. They’re not a poverty program and shouldn’t act like one. This blue collar image they want to portray doesn’t work in this day and age. They want to win and now they’re acting like it. I’m from Happy Valley and watched them all my life, but I’m not a Penn State fan. 😂

Agree. PA and PSU have always had a mentality that came from its 19th century industrial glory years. It's old without a lot of cutting-edge discovery, whether its medicine, high tech, etc. It doesn't have a Silicon Valley. PSU could break out if it knew how to take big steps.

I remember Tom Herman was the golden OC at OSU but he never attained the same success at Houston and at Texas. Ohio State was the linchpin for success.

The doomer PSU "fans" out there really need to grow up and recognize the situation for what it is, rather than what they wish it was. Pat Kraft is rebuilding the administrative culture at PSU while CJF is building an elite football culture. They also need to realize that the upper layers of elite are always inches away, and PSU has not always been willing to fight like this. More!!! At this level, we're competing with AL/TX/GA/OR/OHS for everything: staff, players, money, exposure, etc. Awesome hire. Let's goooooooo!

As a buckeye fan it’s not surprising, we already knew there was disagreements within the coaching staff between JK and LJ they didn’t get along and after the Oregon game that’s when the fuel to the fire had made it’s prompt. I don't know - I don't know if I thought Penn State needed "saving" defensively, but we had Manny Diaz (who I think might be my favorite DC of all time) and we went from him to Tom Allen who was a phenomenal hire and a great DC, but I felt like a smidge less good than Diaz. Allen goes to Clemson, and I'm like "CRAP. No way we get another out of the park DC for a while." So - not saving like being rescued, but saving like a relief pitcher cause I thought we were going to take some significant steps back on that side of the ball.

Knowles is a genius. nobody is better at in game adjustments. he's a fantastic coordinator. Ohio State didn't fully commit to what he wanted to do and never would have so I understand why he wanted to move on - even beyond $. it'll be fascinating to see how the PSU veteran DL reacts to it. his D calls for the DLine to commit to sacrificing themselves to free up the LBs and safeties. Ohio State kept putting that off and in this past year just flat rejected that part of his system. you aren't keeping or recruiting top DL into that system. something hard for programs used to NFL caliber DL.
