I love jujutsu kaisen, but there is one singular thing that has always annoyed me ever since I started the series...

I honestly think that JJk's biggest problem is the fact that too much happens in such short time, and not enough questions about certain plot points get explained. or some other areas of the story are just not relevant. Miguel and his friend are the only foreign sorcerers we know of and its kind of underwhelming. And we know next to nothing about the Heian era. I wish gege explained these plot points better.
@Jonathan-tw4xm6 ай бұрын
Herian era needs to be an anime.
@pspsmallz6 ай бұрын
Yeah world building is pretty much non existant in the story and one of Gege biggest weaknesses writing wise
@ercterburn10536 ай бұрын
Ngl for foreign sorcerers it's probably because they're underwhelmingly weak
@randomhandle1116 ай бұрын
@@pspsmallz There was SO much potential for some S+ tier worldbuilding with the setup we got, but Gege never bothered to take the time to flesh it out, it's really unfortunate
@vcamv23546 ай бұрын
I wouldn't consider these issues of the story. Of the story had set out to explain Heian Era or foreign sorcerers and THEN never did anything with it, then I'ld agree it:s bad, but, there's a difference between US wanting to see more of the POTENTIAL stories this could bring and it being necessary for the story. Like, the story itself said outside of Japan sorcerers are rare, and Miguel is only relevant cause he was in japan. Heian era could be great to explain more of Sukuna but Sukuna, kinda like Aizen, is not about what made him a monster but who he is as a monster So, though Jjk definelty has flaws, biggest one being is too fast paced on the non-action moments, meaning you get little to not downtime to explore relationships and characters, not explaining everything isn't one of them

I believe your point about not spending enough time on deaths is valid, but only for a few deaths like Junpei and his grandpa. Season 1 Direction was not very good, while it is important to adapt the material, the director is adapting not copying the manga. S1 Director ( Sunghoo Park )was not as good as S2 Director ( Shota Goshozono ). I am pretty fond of deaths and arcs being quick in this story because I would imagine a life like this is very quick and so are deaths. Gojo told us in Episode 2. To your point I think some context is necessary, but if the context was always included the Shibuya arc would’ve been in S3. In comparison to other new gens like My Hero, they spend lots of time with context and characters and honestly for me it gets boring and I’m not interested in their 7th training arc or 20th personal dilemma that they have to make clear verbally rather than animated. If I fought Mahito I wouldn’t be able to focus on my friends death like Naruto did with Neji because death is coming
@KumoBear126 ай бұрын
Yeah season 2 direction is peak. I wanted to not exclusively talk about the anime in this video, and rather highlight more the author and how he writes. I’m not saying every character needs a 10 episode backstory, but I’m saying that a little more time can be dedicated to certain moments
@silvertongue.242_996 ай бұрын
I agree with things not getting talked on like deaths, character interactions that are supposed to happen

@@KumoBear12 to the fans that want to spend 30 years of their life for an ending that will never be good cuz the series has too many plot holes mainly cuz it stayed around for too long, I would hardly call JJK overrated when one piece literally exists, JJK isn’t trying to be a manga that’s stays around for decades it just wants to be something short and sweet for people to remember. One piece is alright imo, if people enjoy it that’s fine too, I just prefer JJK

I understand why you would feel this way, but i feel like the suddenness of everyone’s death is the point of the series. With yuji’s goal being to give people satisfying death and fulfilling lives only for their lives to be cut short and their deaths to be jarring is the main tragedy of jjk. That the jujutsu society they live in is corrupt and cursed energy being the source of evil which is why people like toji and maki in the manga get healthy screen time and toji getting a very meaningful death. A lot of times we just don’t need tons of development between characters only for their purpose to the story to be specific. With yuji’s grandpa and yuji’s friends there’s no need for them to interact that much if their interactions are meaningless; as readers we know what they’re supposed to mean to yuji and can feel the same emotions that yuji feels for them because they are common emotions that people feel and by eliciting those emotions when they do share screen time, it makes up for their lost interactions because we already have the desired effect.

JJK is a really great anime, but I do agree that pacing is the worst part of it.
@silvertongue.242_996 ай бұрын
The point of nanmi sudden death and how quick it went is to put us in Yuji perspective and his mindset during him dying. I like the send off and what the anime added. There was a point to what they did in the manga

Maybe it's just me, but I had a slightly different reading as to why Mechamaru's death wasn't really brought up until his AI discs appeared: nobody actually knew he died. The first episode of the arc confirms for the sorcerers that Mechamaru was the traitor, but a key detail is that the location of his body that he'd given them was entirely false. They had no idea that he was actually set up at the dam where he and Mahito fought, and given that his power is puppet manipulation, the Kyoto school noticing that his main puppet is inactive lines up with him being found out as the traitor. This is why nobody reacts, and why Mechamaru has to outright tell Yuji and Mei Mei that he died twelve days prior. The Kyoto students would be in the exact same position, then; they only get a chance to react to his death once the disc he left with them activates. I think this makes his tragedy sting all the harder - it wasn't that they knew he died but didn't care because he was distant/betraying them, but that nobody was close enough to him to read into his sudden silence and figure out what happened. JJK absolutely has its pacing issues, particularly between arcs like you mentioned alongside not giving time to flesh things out (like Naobito being in literally one scene before his appearance in Shibuya). But, I think Mechamaru's death was a perfect example of how well Gege's pacing can work, given the proper effort and forethought.

6:03 This right here Often I'll see JJK fans basically twist themselves into knots explaining something thats frankly not that good You talking about Mechamaru like that sounded like some really smart writing! ...until you realized that Gege definitely did not think of that 💀 Gege can be a great writer when he locks in but i always have to remind peopel that he's not Shakespeare

It doesn’t make me enjoy it any less that he didn’t do it intentionally, but it does make me think about the rest of the story in a different light
@cam10_06 ай бұрын
This is an issue, but at the same time it’s a breath of fresh air. Most shonen beat you over the head with the simplest plot points just to try and evoke emotion from you. For me personally, one pacing issue isn’t really better or worse than the other. But JJK’s pacing issue at least leads to more consistent action scenes

I love JJK but yep people still salty over Higurma confiscating Sukunas weapon who got it like 2 chapters before. That was crazy plot convenience. But yes Gege has said himself the manga writes itself and although he has an end goal for the story and for some characters, he writes the story and characters as it progresses itself and when he thinks something cool and wants it in his story. He also recently admitted he did not do good in some details and pacing like with Ryu and Uro in the manga. We still have very little details of the Heian Era and the clans. Speaking for the anime, S2 did a much better out fleshing the manga even just a little bit more. Reading the manga is completely different feel and way more crazy pacing chapter by chapter that I wouldnt recommend it as I think the anime is superior BUT considering JJK is extremely popular and mainstream it be good to catch up to it to avoid spoilers. Sad cause many people have shared their same perspectives in JJK moving way to fast when alot of the characters are likable and context of the story is really good. Unfortunately Gege did not want a 500chapter manga. Its understandable as mangaka health declines the longer they stay in a series but its really sad not having a fully fleshed out story with so much potential

Yeah as much as I enjoy this series, the pacing is absolutely horrendous. It makes sense why this series became popular because Gege realized that rushing a story through plot points as quickly as possible would keep readers with low attention span reading. This is an effective way to keep and grow readership but also ends up being a huge detriment to the story and characters writing wise. The plot ends up being very basic, characterization and character motivations are usually one dimensional barring a handful of characters and the world building is pretty much non existant throught out the story. A jjk with good pacing where Gege allows the story breathing room and time to grow would have genuinely been a masterpiece shonen albeit not as popular but instead we get a popular shonen with a mediocre story that is carried by fights. Thay what if will always bother me about the series.
