I was pointing out that I’m black because there are a lot of non black people in the comments speaking on how they feel about her doing rap when it isn’t even their place. I agree with you. Amy's music as Qveen Herby is her being her authentic self. The record label tried to water her down, so she took back her control. She's been gearing up for this since she heard Lauren Hill as a kid and if you listen to her music as Qveen Herby, you'll know what I'm talking about. So whatever. I be blasting that white girl in my ish like what? Qveen Herby slaps. ❤️

Saying that she shouldn’t rap because she’s white it’s like saying an Asian guy shouldn’t sing country music because he’s Asian 🤷‍♂️ People who think a genre is only for a certain race should grow up. It’s racist to think that because of your skin colour or ethnicity, you can’t sing in a certain genre. We’ve grown as a civilization a lot in the past 100 years, we’re much more excepting of all races, cultures, religions, genders and sexual orientations though we clearly have A LOT more work to do. Don’t be the problem, stop the problem.

This. People don't understand how music is a confluence of various cultures and tech. Jazz was influenced by a combination of blues and European classical music. Rock is a combination of blues, country, and folk. Contemporary hip hop has roots in black and Latinx culture, but it was propelled by Japanese music tech in the 80s and 90s. Anybody should be able to sing or play country, jazz, classical, hip hop, blues, punk, electronica, etc. regardless of race or ethnicity.

@Lexus If you want to live your life as nothing more than "The angry, fat, bitter, black, woman" that's your prerogative. You're entitled to stay in your comfort zone, but you're not entitled to expect the rest of the world to do so. I saw the Pulses Tour in Columbus, it was my first concert and my friend and I were right at the gate. I got a set list from the stage and they were amazing live. Then I saw them at Cincinnati pride during leo rising. They donated proceeds from the presold album (it hadn't dropped yet, but they were selling copies at pride) to the Pulse Nightclub victims (this was a week or two after the massacre). The duo are amazing live! And I was able to score another set list from the stage, two of my most prised possessions. I will admit I fell out of keeping up to date with them, interested to hear Amy's stuff!

Thanks for the video. Musically, I prefer that short period where they were doing Karmin but writing their own songs. I agree with you on the Epic Karmin albums. Sometimes the record company knows better than the artists and improves the product but this was not one of those times. I thought Leo Rising showed potential. I'm disappointed they didn't keep going that way but artists gotta go where their creativity takes them and it's pretty clear that Qveen Herby is where their creativity is taking them. Much admiration to them for going indie and making it work.

@mieke109

@@throwaway6777 absolutely. The funniest thing to me is that white rappers get a lot of shit in the US. Meanwhile there are rappers in literally every other country on earth where nobody gives the slightest fuck if you're white, black, Asian, Arab or anything else because it's just about music and if you're good at it or not
@Lostinmyhead23
@Lostinmyhead23 4 жыл бұрын
Emma Vicktorius because white Americans are known for stealing everything from black people. Y’all beat us and told us we couldn’t be African and when we decided to “assimilate” and make our own culture y’all took that too. You can’t be upset because this shit is literally history repeating itself. Literally we dominated Rock and Roll, blues, jazz etc and then y’all came along and took that too. Y’all don’t like us but love our culture
@mieke109
@mieke109 4 жыл бұрын
@@Lostinmyhead23 but the artists themselves aren't the one's that are the problem, they are the people who have intense respect for the black musicians who came before them or think that something like braids or dreadlocks are beautiful which is why they wear them. The problem are other people in society only being acceptable of white people doing things from black culture. Maybe it's because it's different where I'm from because there is very little black culture and the black people grew up very different to the US which is the reason nobody cares and rap/hiphop is just a medium and an artform to express yourself

I've loved Amy from the start and have been so thrilled to watch hers and Nick's evolution of style. I haven't seen many people complain about her being white and rapping, so that surprised me to hear. And shes influenced by hip hop artists, not just "black hip hop artists" I dunno, that phrasing made me feel weird lol. But also, people missed when she was still under the name Karmin and rapped with Watsky. She encompasses being an artist and can play within any genre and be authentic

Leo Rising is one of my favorite albums. End of statement. I miss Karmin, particularly that Karmin, but I appreciate everything they've put out and gone through. I don't listen to Qveen Herby much, because I'm not a big R&B fan, but I totally respect their decision to go that direction and will occasionally listen to their EPs. I'll even pop in to see what kind of stuff they've been up to, because I really just enjoy seeing Amy and Nick's energies.
