I've never understood why she wasn't a bigger star, and actually, still don't. She's a solid actress, capable of a variety of types of roles, and is arguably as beautiful as any actress in Hollywood, even those half her age. She has proven to be equally adept at period piece dramas, action film heroines, or modern career women, so there is no reason NOT to cast her, IMO. She's amazing!

If I could guess, it's probably because she has never exposed herself too much in the public eye. She has always been so low-key and kept her personal life mainly private. She has never seeked any kind of major attention or did anything too far-fetched like most attention seeking celebs out there do to get noticed, and I think she preferred to keep it that way. She is too classy for those kinds of things. I don't think she really wants to be "bigger" than what she is. I think she just wants to do what she loves, which is act, and then go home to her daughter and be a mom. If she wanted to, then I am almost certain that she would have been much bigger -- Also, in between the big budget major films that she does, she has also chosen to do some independent films that would showcase her acting skills more than her physical appearance -- Of course, those films barely get any attention as we live in a world where everything is centered on good looks. But regardless, she is still one of the most versatile actresses out there. She has starred in movies from comedy to drama to action to horror to sci-fi, you name it; she has done it all! That is a hell of a lot more than I can say for most actresses who would be considered a bigger star than her, so obviously, apart from the things mentioned, she also challenges herself to do movies that are way out of her comfort zone rather than just sticking to one genre. She's definitely got something that not many actresses out there have. And as an icing on the cake, she is also just immensely and undoubtedly beautiful, sexy, and smart. Bigger star or not, I will never hesitate to choose her over some A-lister actresses out there. Kate Beckinsale is and always will be my favorite actress!

I agree, Pearl Harbor was not a flop and neither was Serendipity. The narrator forgot to mention that Serendipity premiered in New York two days after 9/11. Not many people felt like going to a movie. But so many people love that movie. One of her best movies is Nothing But the Truth. Unfortunately, after going to Cannes, the production company went bankrupt and the movie never released. Too bad, she would have been up for many awards for that one. I wish someone would give her the role of a lifetime. She is just too fabulous not to be recognized the way she deserves. She is so smart and so funny.

Directors, producers, and screenwriters worry so much about a movie project bombing that instead of creating different movies they just rehash the same movies over again with slight altercations to the plot. Prequels, sequels and remakes are a good example. In English class its called inadequate paraphrashing. It's like copying someone's else's ideas and reshaping them into their own film. It's pretty much one step away from plagiarism.

Beckinsale is a fantastic actress. I was introduced to her with Pearl Harbor, which she gave a very solid performance. I have suffered through every Underworld film just to see her. Serendipity is one of my favorite rom-coms, even though I think Cusack is one of the worst leading men in the business. I even watched Total Recall in the theater. I was ate up with her. But then not once, not twice, but three times she was announced to be at some local conventions and cancelled each time. She blames her lack of work on sexism and ageism, but that's a lie. She's a beautiful woman with a healthy resume. Movies with women of all ages and sizes are needed. She, just like with her convention appearances, probably just passes up roles she's offered because she feels that she is above them or should be paid more. I'm sure the Michael Bay thing is true. He's an ex-model director and has his head shoved up his ass because he has yet to make a film with integrity. But if in the off-chance that what she claims is true, then it's no fault but her own. Get a different agent and don't fuck your director cause then you'll be obligated to make his shitty films.

If I was her I'd shelve the dramatic side of acting, and take the action genre by storm. I would do other types of action films other than Underworld. Every action star has that one franchise that they're known for. Like Bruce Willis has Die Hard, Arnold has The Terminator, Stallone has Rambo and Rocky, but they still branch out and work on stuff while sticking in or close to the genre they're known for. Kate Beckinsale could do the same. Besides who wants to be the next Pretty Woman, when you could be the next Ripley or Sarah Connor?

I think she is a brilliant actress and the industry should take her seriously and offer her lots of roles , as for age I think her acting spectrum could seriously cover any age rage if they offered her a part to play a young girl or older person or anything in between she could pull it off. And as for the director saying she was just average I would take average any day she is really good looking and has he looked in a mirror at himself lately yeesh.

I wouldnt call her unattractive, nor is she the personification of an 'average woman". She just has a unique look to her features. She's been miscast for certain roles and her most effective ones always have her angry or serious. She was great as a villainess in Total Recall.

A comeback? She's not gone anywhere. She may not have been in blockbuster movies or Oscar bait, but she's been working steadily for years, appearing in many great films. I would love to see her in more films though as I think she's incredibly talented. I always thought she'd be the ideal choice if they ever make a bio-pic about Jane Goodall, but I would also love to see her do more comedies. I was writing a script at one point that was never going to get made (because I'm nobody lol) which was about a 90's rock band that ends up being Earth's only hope against an alien invasion, think "Mars Attacks" meets The Beatles "Help!", I wanted her and Sarah Silverman as the 2 main characters (Silverman as the singer, rhythm guitarist, Beckinsale as the bassist with Brendan Fraser as the drummer and Adam "Edge" Copeland as the lead guitarist). I know the 2 are friends in real life and I think they'd have great chemistry. Maybe I should revisit the script and send it to someone who knows about these things.

I have met a great many celebrities, but none more charming and beautiful in real life than Kate Beckinsale. I do not get star struck, but I was a blubbering mess in front of her. She is absolutely breathtaking one the eyes, her accent gets me every time, and I personally would love to see more of her on the silver screen! She’s a great actress and an incredibly funny person. I think she should try her hand at straight up comedy
