The real protagonist of Tekken is Kazuya. He is the main character in 1, the villain in 2, opens the trailer for 4 and 5, is the cover in 6, co-star with Heihachi in 7 and villain in 8. He is also the one who appears the most in other games like Smash Bros ultimate and Street Fighter VS Tekken cover Pd: Jin fought Azazel and he was hurt all of Tekken 7. I think one of the reasons why kazuya is so popular is because fighting game players in general are probably more likely to be seeking a challenge overcome and because how difficult kazuya is to play it maximize that feeling of overcoming a challenge.

Kazuya is a badass character. I fell in love with him in Tekken 4. That "yakuza" aesthetic he had fit the character so well. But it wasn't until T5 that the character really found his present day identity. All his new animations had a whole new level of style and ferocity that elevated the character to even greater heights of badassery. It's like his sole purpose and focus is on sadistically crushing his opponent's soul into oblivion. But there's a seething stillness and patient discipline that the character has before he explodes into action. Like the destruction of his opponent is inevitable and already determined by fate. His stoic and indomitable nature is why he's one of my favorite characters.

I know what you mean. I had no idea how he played, I just thought he looked incredibly cool so I decided to play Tekken and main him. And the way he plays is even cooler than I could've imagined. I love how even though he's the main character, he has a pretty polarized playstyle with huge strengths and huge weaknesses, and high difficulty (usually main characters are easy and jack of all trades). I also love how every attack feels like he's trying to rupture an organ in the opponent, the impact is crazy.

@@The_Buff_Guy he also has a 50/50 based on a low that is very fast, does decent damage and knocks down, and a mid that is safe and launches on normal hit. that on itself is a huge dose of dopamine when it lands as ff3 combos deals a fckton of damage and hellsweep drops them down so you can keep opressing them. and I didn't even touch the electric, which I don't even have to explain the appeal lol playing him is a LOT of pain but is also a LOT of fun

Was a kid when Tekken 1 came out and mashed with 3 characters mostly. Kazuya because he wore sneakers that looked like mine, Law because he made the same sounds as Liu Kang who was my favorite in MK, and after my cousin unlocked him Armor King because he was a big black cat with spikes. Parents got me Tekken 2 and with the amount of times Kazuya and Devil beat my ass, I had to main him from that point on without even knowing what that meant yet. Him and Armor King. Took quite a while to get 3 and I remembered being disappointed in Kazuya not being there so I played mostly Forest since Armor King was dead too. But my two goats returned in Tag. Been rocking ever since, and it all started because of sneakers.

I remember the time when I got into Tekken for the first time. Kazuya reminded me of Vegeta. When I saw the Electric Wind God Fist (EWGF) for the first time, I was determined to learn the move set. However, I didn't realize how difficult it was to perform the EWGF. I spent 5 hours a day trying to learn this move for about 3-4 months but could never hit it. I gave up trying to learn it and took a 3 or 4 week break from Tekken 7. When I came back to play the game, all of a sudden something clicked, and it became so easy that now I'm very consistent with the move.

Dude rocks a gator skin tailored suit that's purple(my favorite color and also seen as a color of royalty and the crown chakra) has immaculate shoe game, and has been across the entire spectrum morally. If you want your anime protagonist, play Jin. If you want the grizzled seen some shit soldier on a warpath(while still remaining stylish) you play Kazuya.

One thing I love about Kazuya is how complex of a character he is. Him being thrown off by a cliff, trauma he had from his childhood, etc. Gameplay wise, I like his moveset and to me his pretty simple to use. Tekken 4 was my first. I love his formal outfits and his military armor from TK:6. His karate gi is cool. But I personally don’t like it that much. To most iconic Kaz fans, his most iconic battle grunt is “DORYA”. From TK:1-Tag Tournament, “TWAH” was another iconic voice. Now, both DORYA and TWAH are together. Making Kaz badass than ever! Kaz main forever!

I started Tekken 7 when I saw the first trailer for Tekken 8. I started the game with Kazuya, the game being HELL is an understatement at that time. But the satisfaction when I became decent with him was amazing. Im at Kishin with Kazuya now, and I enjoy playing him more than anything. I heard a comparison a while back that kinda made it easy to understand, especially since so much of the smash community is the new audience for Tekken or Kazuya as a character. He's popular because he's like the Melee Fox of the game. High execution character who ends up being the icon of his game, and who has a mechanic central to his gameplan that defines a lot of his high execution, but it's hard in a way that's easy for a new player to both understand how it works and to grasp the difficulty of. While having the depth, mindgames, and weak enough disadvantage to keep high level players engaged and thrilled. Melee's incarnation of Fox is definitely more of a one hit wonder while Kazuya was forged through refinement and legacy.

As a player, Kazuya has that barrier of difficulty that really makes it hard for me to really get into playing the character. Having said that, due to that difficulty, no doubt there's respect to be given to the players who main him. Not to mention, there's that aura of coolness that Kazuya always oozes & in viewer's perspective, he's a treat to watch. Was gonna mention perhaps you can do other character like Yoshi, the Bears etc (have a bit of break until you do Jin), but with that, it came to mind. Have you considered expanding your "Why everyone loves/hates" etc series to characters beyond just the Tekken 8 roster? For example, "Why everyone love Lei Wu Long" or "Why everyone hates Lucky Chloe" etc etc. Of course, some of those you cover may get added as DLC, but some may not (like Bruce for example, highly unlikely they'll add him given Fahk is more likely with the leaks).

6:24 is Kazuya really the villain of Tekken 7? In my eyes you played as the villain for most of the game (Heihachi) and Akuma was a secondary villain. Maybe it’s because I had context and just thought the ending was kazuya’s moment as the guy

Actually he is the villain in Tekken 7 and so as Tekken 8

I love Kazuya. He is also super handsome again! Though honestly I really dislike these pumped up bodies he and some other characters have now. (It doesn't even make sense!) Honestly he was at his best in TTT1. Loved that realistic face and body at that time that aside his character is great. Though Harada constantly chose that awful downhill path for him - now there is hope. Would be great if he'd be the Center of the next (and hopefully not, but possible last Tekken). A Kazuya story centered game would be great! With more Insight to his perspective would be awesome. We already got Heihachi and Jin

It's pretty simple cause he's bad ass and originally had a very mysterious duality to him that unfortunately Namco squandered when they turned him into a somewhat generic 2D villain in later games. He stands toe to toe with Akuma, and even capcom has shown him pretty comfortably handling ryu and Ken at the same time. 😂. But for me it's the gameplay. Theres nothing more satisfying in the entire realm of video games than landing an abolishing electric wind godfist launch to kill your opponent from out of no where. And he's a character that takes skill, timing and dedication to be good with. and let's be honest the moveset has always just looked bad ass. Demon god fist, hellsweep hook, ect. Dude is as iconic as it gets.

Tekken 8 is my first Tekken game and I main Yoshimitsu. I think he's hilarious to play and win in ranked with I'd love to see a video about Yoshi's cult following

"Cult following" sounds so fitting for Yoshi mains ngl haha. You've got the mishimas running electric drills in the lab all day like professional automatons, Bryans taunting passerbys at the window while the Hwo's play Metal Gear Revengence in the back, practicing their QTE spam, Lili mains squabbling in the dressing room and throwing all the shoes away, and in the corner there's just a bucha masked cultists sitting cross-legged, pure jorking it in a circle and sharing hieroglyphic flowcharts of eldritch power between one another.

I only started playing Kazuya because Heihachi is gone now but i dont regret the switch.
