I still talk about the last boy scout. It was a great movie, maybe because I watched it in my formative years. One thing is for certain, I may not have always known Kim Coates's name... But I've always recognized this face. For the longest time anytime anyone needed a smart ass henchman, it seems like they called him. And he's never disappointed me. It got to the point in '90s action movies, that it became a disappointment if he wasn't a part of the production. And I'm certainly glad that he has moved on to bigger and better parts. That run on sons of anarchy was legend, and I really do hope to see him in more.

Kim (as Chet) only gets that one scene in The Last Boy Scout before Bruce's character kills him, but he really nailed the asshole antagonist role. Joe Hallenbeck: Can I have a cigarette? Chet: A cigarette? Yeah sure. [gives him one] Joe Hallenbeck: Got a light? Chet: Yeah, got a light. [pretends to give him a light and punches him instead] Chet: Hey baby I thought you were tough. See Pablo, he's no sweat! Joe Hallenbeck: I seem to have dropped my cigarette. May I have another? Chet: [hesitates] Sure, sure thing buddy. [gives him another cigarette] Joe Hallenbeck: I'm gonna need a light. You touch me again, I'll kill ya.
@RobinDale502 жыл бұрын
And it's all the little nuances that Kim does that makes that character in just 1 scene. All the pauses, glances, reactions. That look of disbelief followed by how he delivers "Sure thing buddy!" just before that last punch that just sends his performance. 2 minutes of screentime and he's one of the most memorable characters in the movie. Kim Coates has always been vastly underrated.

Kim Coates is one of those character actors who you recognize no matter what in a movie, but his portrayal of the character is what matters. You know it's Kim, but you also know he is the character as well. And from this interview you come to know he is a pretty down to earth and cool guy. Would love to be sitting at a table with him and William Finctner just listening to the conversation. I'm starting to really like these "Inside of You" interviews that Michael does. His approach is to just sit there and have a conversation, no B.S. or gotcha. Just an hour or so of conversation about work, life, and general shit. Never a dull moment.
