This Asian women shopped where I used to work, and she had a very unique but consistent style. She would wear a very fashionable top, maybe even layered with multiple stylish items, and then sweatpants, or something else very basic and "unstylish" as a bottom. Or, she would wear a high fashion bottom, then a lackluster top. Looked so cool and effortless.

I've been here for 16 years. Some Koreans dress like this but most just follow trends. It is crazy how many people look the same. On the subway, it's common to see many people wearing the same shoes or same jackets sitting next to each other. I talk to my uni students about this. They say they just want to fit in. Everything from necklaces to backpacks. These days you can't go wrong with The North Face puffers with a low ball cap covering your eyes. I believe most of these pics in the video are professional pics with models dressed by stylists. Another common tip is MUSINSA.

Really loved the video and your delivery! I was wondering if you could do a video dedicated to shoes/sneakers alone. I love to wear more chunky sneakers, and regular 'white' or black AF1s. But I notice that I sometimes struggle to pick the best one for my outfit since the 'point' might be e.g my blazer, yet the shoes can easily become a point as well. I hope that makes sense. Hope you'll do a vid on this!

#2 kind of goes against most classical menswear advice even from the likes of Derek Guy. The advice being consistency - if you’re dressing formal, then the whole outfit should be formal to maintain consistently
@moonknight4053Ай бұрын
We can pull off streetwise most times idk why we need to look formal all the time. We really don’t have too wear formal clothes a lot
@JasonCheeeseballАй бұрын
Derek guy advice is in American traditional context. Young people from Korea and Japan wear things like vintage military jackets over a suit even though it doesnt make sense in classic menswear
@user-km2bz8iy5oАй бұрын
@@moonknight4053 no the essence of Derek Guy's advice is not that you should always be wearing formal. Its about consistency in what you communicate via your dress. Some items are naturally formal and they pair better if other items in your outfit are also formal. Same thing with casual
@user-km2bz8iy5oАй бұрын
The main thing i was taking issue with is sneakers with formal wear that Wanhee was using as an example of "WIT". I can get it if an outfit is 50% formal and 50% casual cos you're going for a more casual look. But if its a full fledged dark navy worsted suit... and all of a sudden there's some HOKA runners - that to me is inconsistent to the point of confusion.
@mangobadgerАй бұрын
That particular part stood out to me too, but I think it has to be taken with a grain of salt - he even said in part 6 to dress properly for the occasion. To me, mixing it up like that is more about toning a formal outfit down for a casual situation rather than going against the grain at a black tie event.

I love that you love your culture a lot but trying to say that they’re better than everybody is just whack all right especially when there is so much receipts and evidence showing that Koreans just knock off everything that British people do and Chino style don’t dress better. You guys just copy us, but there’s nothing put over here. All you guys do the same thing so there’s so much over here. Everyone in Korea just has the same exact thing.

so disagree... Korea dress trends, not necessarily in the greatest quality. They pioneered H&M, that's the blueprint for their entire fashion industry
@encapseoulate18 күн бұрын
I’m laughing. Koreans dress better? I lived there for nearly 20 years and all saw where unflattering baggy silhouettes, black and white and then heather grey fleece sweatpants, horrible oversized jeans post pandemic that it swallows young people whole. The people shown in these videos are more reflective of what I used to see in Japan. It’s more the exception than the norm for Koreans to dress really well. And when they do, it’s wonderful to witness these individuals not conform. Korea are a conformist people. They would rather choose to blend in than stand out. In winter I would see droves of young men and women wear almost the exact same colour puffer jacket so that they would blend in with their friends. They don’t like standing out from the crowd.
