I agree about the 'appearance' segment. Recently my motivation was really low, I was not shaving or getting a decent haircut - basically just neglecting myself and at the same time was putting off the gym and overeating. my 'mood' (not motivation?) was really low - the British weather doesn't help, but we're getting more sunny frosty days, which helps 🙂

We should not rely on lower-calorie versions of real food. They are expensive, taste much worse, and are not as satisfying. Fat is essential in our nutrition. Just eating real, unprocessed food is a much better approach. For example, why would you not eat nuts, full-fat dairy, and high-fatty fish? A low-fat diary is actually proven not to support weight loss-yes, it has fewer calories, but such a switch will make you crave more food, and your daily calories will still match.

I don’t fully agree with the idea that Koreans are uniquely obsessed with appearances. Yes, revealing clothing in Korea might attract a few more judgmental looks, but you could experience the same in New York if you're dressed unconventionally. I see this more as a city-versus-countryside culture difference rather than a Korea-versus-Western difference. Many KZbinrs and outsiders focus on Seoul, but outside of the capital, people tend to be more relaxed about appearance. That said, beauty standards do seem higher in Korea, partly because younger people prioritize looks and have better access to skincare and beauty shops. I also wonder if Korea’s 'conformity culture' influences beauty standards. Just as different body types, like the Kardashian look and a slender physique, are popular in the U.S., Korean men have diverse preferences too.
@saturated3821Ай бұрын
I have to point out that the Kardashians are totally not immune to beauty standards, which change. The may have popularized the BBL, but now that the pendulum has swung back towards more of the heroine chic look of the 90s, they've either reversed the BBLs or at least stopped getting top ups, it's obvious from pictures.

They are not mutually exclusive. The 'food' in the U.S. is quite bad with a high percentage of non-food items: artificial flavours, colouring, additives...e,g, (US) Kellogg cereals (company) sold in Europe has far less ingredients due to less (aformentioned) rubbish; Subway (US) in Europe cannot label their bread as such due to their high sugar content...Starbuck coffee drinks just have Italian names (most are made-up) but have US XXXXXL sizes compare to Itralian (European version)...and not to mention the copious sizes of meals...
@Aaron-uz4rlАй бұрын
The problem is that food in Korea is as chemically atrocious and as junky as food in the West. Sure, traditional Korean food is healthy (but so is Western), but that's not the majority of what people eat. What you say about Europe is true - but Japan, which is thinner than Europe and America, allows MORE artificial chemicals in their food than even America.

0:09 "Korea, in fact, has the lowest obesity rate in the world." That's impossible, considering impoverished nations have very low obesity rates like Ethiopia.l and Madagascar. Korea may have the lowest obesity rate amongst the OECD countries, not the world. But the rate is increasing due to the influence of the terrible western, fast-food diet: sugar. More Koreans are eating dessert (pancakes, waffles, syrup, candy, bread) and other high-caloric cakes for breakfast and snacks, just like the Americans, and their soda cans have become the same size as those sold in the US: 355 mL (12 oz). Soda used to only be sold in smaller 250 mL cans in Korea.

I’m pretty shocked that you are so misinformed about food and metabolism. Eating more fat doesn’t make you fatter because it is more caloric. In fact eating more fat and fewer carbohydrates will cause you to lose weight. A calorie of protein is not equal to a calorie of fat or a calorie of alcohol or carb. They are all metabolized differently in the body.

Weight is simply calories in and calories out no matter what you eat.
@indianasageАй бұрын
Yes, they are metabolized differently. But if you’re eating enough fat such that it puts you in a calorie surplus, you’ll gain weight. Fat is calorically dense. Imagine trying to eat your regular 2200 calories (as an example), but you put a bit more mayo on your sandwich than usual, more peanut butter in your smoothie, more nuts in your oats. Those all add up really fast.
