@@1stclassdork578 true, a better version of her could've been the master of time as she watched over everyone, until she felt Raiden's tampering with time, so she mistakes him as evil as she persues him by bringing back older characters like Ashrah or Fujin to serve as her helpers. This cultimates in a clash between them in the middle of the game, until Raiden reveals his true intentions, so Kronika backs down letting her guard down long enough for Shang Tsung or maybe a new villain to grab her crown using her time powers to send them into different points in time, meeting new as well as older characters in the process, leading to a race against time to save their timeline from being destroyed. See much more interesting and makes Kronika into an inadvertant villain until she becomes an ally. Not generic villain 420.

The biggest problem with Kronika I believe is the writters or MK11 made her far too powerful for their own good. If you go with characters that have that much power you need some really clever writting to get around that and make the heroes win in the end without making that character look weak, stupid or poorly written. And the writters working in NRS right now are frankly not inteligent enough for any of that. They actually come off as really stupid and childish at points. And I think both the villian they chose(which was cleary only a way to give themselves a way out of all the retcons they have been doing in the new timeline) and how they treated her just proves my point.

@@adrianmedina3025 agreed. I don't know if you were around when MK Deception first came out but I was and I was so hyped for Onaga. They put so much hype towards him and when I finally got to play the game I was very disappointed and dissatisfied. The game was good don't get me wrong, I especially loved the Konquest mode but i hated the story. Because it's not what I was expecting. He manipulates Shujinko and that's pretty much it he doesn't really do anything other than that. So i hope if they do bring him back they give him a much better story and build up and don't make him look weak.

If someone feels that they can't be beaten, or they've won already, they can get cocky or arrogant and leave themselves open to attacks that they probably would have seen coming had they not been sleeping on their opponents. Kronika is a perfect example of (failing) appropriate narrative peril. If a problem or threat is too small, then there's no tension, but if the threat appears far too overwhelming to ever be realistically defeated/solved, then it leads most resolutions to feel contrived. If regular humans are facing something like a god, then there needs to be a damn good reason for them to not be obliterated instantly, otherwise it'll leave us questioning why the villain is losing to this clearly inferior opponent. This is also known as the idiot plot, where certain characters have to be stupid for things to go along as they did.

It's like I've been saying since MK9, the writing in NRS has been getting worse and worse with each game, every one is just so blinded by how awesome looking and cinematic the story modes are that most people seem to give them a pass on how that story and it's characters are writen. One of the problems with Kronika in my opinion is that they made her too powerful for their own good. It's like these writers have the minds of children. In their minds what makes a good villian is just how powerful and evil they are and that's pretty much it. But then they fail to realize the simple concept that if you make your villian too powerful you have to write him accordingly. Of course we want our heroes to win at the end but if the power levels are that far apart you need some really clever writing to get around that in a believable way. Take MKX for example. Just some magic glowing green energy that somehow both protects and gives you power comparable to an Elder god because your father was a 'chosen one' or some crap like that like in MKX isn't good enough. Even if I were to believe that power really make Cassie strong enough to take on Shinnok(when powered up already mind you) how on earth can she win that fight? She is what? 20 something years old? Has maybe half a dozen of years worth of experience in actual combat? Shinnok was a freaking Elder god. Just because he's a 'fallen' elder god doesn't mean he's any weaker. He is thousands upon thousands of years old, can you imagine how many battle he has seen? And against enemies far more powerful than any human could ever be I'm sure. Yet she just wins in a fight? Doesn't have to outsmart him somehow taking advantage of his arrogance or something like that, just beats him down as if he was little more than a school bully. At least Johnny Cage I can believe would hold his own for a bit against him in the beginning of the game, for one Cage by that point has much more experience than his daughter will probably ever have, he had that green energy protecting him, Shinnok was not yet and full power, nor was he powered up like he is in the end of the game. And he didn't really defeat him, if I recall correctly Raiden trapped Shinnok as soon as he got the chance, Cage pretty much just stalled and held him off buying time for Raiden. Compare that to the end where his daughter can just beat an Elder god in hand to hand combat. And people want me to believe these writers are remotely intelligent if they see nothing wrong with this scenario? The writing staff at NRS are simply not intelligent enough to write these kind of villians. They went out of their way to create a new race in MK lore with the 'titans' as if that would somehow impress us even more than Elder gods, but then like you say very well in this video she passes off as incompetent and really stupid for someone who as been around for so long and has seen all the timelines. When I saw the villian they were going for in this game I thought "Ok, cool, but how are they going to defeat such a powerful being? Will other titans come along in the end to help? Will they find some way to take her powers away somehow so she has to fight herself hand-to-hand?" Remember that in MK9 no one could beat Shao Khan? Raiden had to trick him and the Elder gods themselves killed him? Well that can't happen here can it? She is more powerful then even the Elder gods. So whatever way you go about it you will end up going against your story by creating a seemingly invencible and immortal villian that sees and knows all only to then NOT see all, know NOTHING and be beaten with relative ease when the plot says so just like Shinnok before her. Aftermath just makes it worse for her, don't get me wrong Aftermath is pretty amazing just for Shang Tsung alone but I agree it made no favours for the villians of the main story specially Kronika. And when she sacrifices her daughter was the pinnacle of stupidity. There was literally no reason for it, if she was actually a smart villian she would have understood it made much more sense to restore her and keep her by her side to defend her alongside the revenants, she might have used some energy then but it would be more useful in the long run instead of just killing her daughter to get s little more power in the hourglass, power that did nothing anyway. At least when Shao Khan killed Shan Tsung in MK9 his soul trasfer into Sindel made her so powerful she killed a bunch of heroes on her own, we can see a tangible result of that action. Here nothing changed other than that is one less villian to worry about in the end. I think these writers just did that because they thought that made her look more evil, you know sacrificing her own daughter and all. Because again these writers only think they are very intelligent, they're not, they are like 10 year olds writing bad fan fiction. And Geras is immortal until he is suddently beaten until he is completely knocked out(or killed) by Shao Khan just because the plot says so... because they had no idea how to get rid of Geras I suppose... never mind that earlier in this story mode the combined powers of Shang Tsung and Fujin weren't enough to stop him, I guess they should have just taken a big hammer with them, that was their mistake, maybe that's his one weakness.... Overall I still love their story modes and yes they still set a standard for the videogame industry when it comes to fighting games but they have to stop resting on their laurels, I don't carw what the production costs are or how good looking and impressive it is, these story modes are like movies and a lot of movies are very good looking and have awesome special effects and great coreographies but can still be complete trash thanks to bad writting. It's time for NRS to get rid of these writers and bring in peoplo who are actually competent and qualified to write the kind of epic action adventure stories they need for MK, preferably people who are also real fans of MK and will treat it's characters and original lore with the respect it deserves and not idiots who are onky there in the end of the day to collect a paycheck and care more about doing what THEY think it's cool and change characters into what THEY think they should be without a care for the fans wishes or the lore. Keep everyone else though, from the coreographers to the cinematographers and everyone who makes the actual 'movie' for the story, those guys are doing an amazing job and I think they should get all the praise they deserve. The writers are the ones failing this franchise now and they NEED actual smart writers. Specially if they bring back Onaga, I do not want him to be ruined by bad writing. And I want the REAL Sindel and REAL Ermac back dammit! Also will some decent writer do something with Rain for once? Come on, he was nothing more than a lap dog for Millena in the last game he showed up in.

Killing off Dark Raiden in the second chapter was probably one of the worst cop-outs in the story. Though, Cetrion working for Kronika all along (which contradicts an earlier scene where she tells Raiden how to stop Kronika and how to cope with the knowledge that he could become korrupted) and Sindel being a petty tyrant that betrayed her people, murdered her husband, and later killed Sheeva and laided the smack down on her daughter (which contradicts all of her Arcade Endings from Mortal Kombat III and Mortal Kombat (2011), as well as a Intro where Sindel states she cares about Kitana and Mileena) are close competitors.

Definitely agree. I kept waiting for her to actually do something in Aftermath as she now knew her original plan was going to fail yet she didn't seem to even try to do anything. Also, what happen to Geras? In the base game he's left to sink for eternity in the sea of blood yet in Aftermath he gets his head bashed in and just... disappear? Isn't he supposed to always return stronger as a fixed point in time? They should've had him return for Kronika's final stand and the two of them together (possibly also with Cetrion) fight against Shang Tsung. Still, throughout the story, there are times other characters urge her to act and despite literally being able to control time, she sits by and watches. In the base game, we see her freeze time and, via Geras, claim what she wanted and then leave without a trace yet this power isn't used again despite being the ultimate trump card. She had so much potential to be a threatening villain yet ended up being bland and uneventful.

@@kommentier9884 Who also had recovery for days on a lot of attacks he tended to use when he had better options available, was programmed to rush in a lot more than he should, and stopped to taunt in a game where almost every member of the cast had a way to near instantly close any gap and punish him for free. Shao Kahn in MK9 got across the idea that you *shouldn't* be able to take on this guy 1v1 but his arrogance makes it possible, essentially having him as a puzzle boss. The only puzzle about Kronika is how she managed to make it into the game in such an unrealized and pointless state.

I would of just had Cetrion as the main villain. Kronika can still be an acting threat but other characters like Geras is questioning his own role via intros and his ending. Use that here, Cetrion can see her mother’s goals as a failing effort and somehow manage to turn Geras to her side. Cetrion can manage to turn many more heroes and potentially (he should of stayed) Dark Raiden to her side as well. For the “Final Battle” it would make sense for Kronika to lose as she would also have to deal with not just the main heroes but also Cetrion and her allies. Aftermath could set up Cetrion’s plan for her own new era.

Shang had Kronika crown. Exactly like Shinnok's amulet, Kronika's crown has her owner powers. So Shang tsung had his powers, plus Kronika's. Also, he stole the soul from Nightwolf's revenant soul, Raiden, Fujin, and others. Also Kronika gave Shang tsung his soul powers as a plan b, but it turns out he turned on her. What doesn't make sense, is Liu Kang with Raiden's powers defeating Shang Tsung with Kronika's, Cetrion's, Raiden's, Fujin's and Nightwolf's powers combined.

Evil Raiden had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. Keep the first mission where you blow up the castle, but then have Raiden start to blur the line between good and evil where he might kill one of the "good guys" for stepping out of line. Revenants team up with the military to take down Raiden. That took like two seconds to come up with and I'm sure somebody well-versed in MK lore could make something better.

This just further outlines how difficult it is to write consistent plots that involve time travel and multiple timelines and how stupid it is to have all-knowing characters that are also supposed to be OP but still, somehow, debatable by regular guys. If NRS would've took away her "I can see throughout all the timelines" BS, Kronika would've made much more sense. She instantly becomes more fallible, can be surprised and sneaked up on and loses the other huge plot hole (still caused by her being all knowing) which is that she should know where everybody is at all times so she could just go and take the crown before people actually got to it.

It's just a matter of writers having no idea of how heavy something is before giving it to a character. They want someone to be thousands of years old, but want just that and not even try to grasp what such an age would entail.
