Listen the warriors will be scary if they draft and keep him...think of him as the future after curry then they can go get a center in free agency which is all they really need and he can be the back up to steph...and if you want him to start in a small ball line-up put him at the point steph at the 2 klay at the 3 Wiggins at the 4 and green at 5 that shit is scary if you think about it...all of them know the game well and can create shots for themselves and others have curry and klay running around off ball is dangerous by itself with the slasher in Wiggins shit even can have melo running off ball and green be the facilitator...Kerr would make it work but they weak point in that will be curry n Melos on ball defense on the island...but within the system shit would be scary

Y'all couch experts called Lonzo a bust when he got drafted yet now he's a solid starter. Y'all said the same thing about Luka and said "Euro players can't handle the NBA's pace and speed" and now he's an all-star and arguably a top-15 player in the NBA right now. The Lonzo argument unfortunately is somewhat true. As a second pick, you expect him to be a standout player in todays league and hes been incredibly short of being that. Jayson Tatum, De'aron Fox, Markkanen, Donovan Mitchell, Bam Adabayo were all picked after him and are showing that the Lakers made a huge mistake. The thing that worries most people, is that Lamelo looks eerily similar in terms of play style compared to Lonzo when they were this young. Broken jumpshot that wont work in todays NBA, and then the team is stuck trying to fix it for 3 years, ultimately hurting their development and conifdence.

Today's basketball is more systematic. It doesn't matter anymore if you're a weak defender, because systems will always do its best to hide its flaws, ultimately the important thing to keep is team defense over individual defense. Look at Harden with the Rockets, Curry with the Warriors, Robinson with the Heat, Lillard with the Blazers, Doncic with the Mavericks, all are known suspects on the defensive end, and you can go on from them too. Yet they managed to be succesful. Look at Kawhi, who is perhaps the best on ball defender today, and look how he can be easily avoided with proper execution and good schemes or systems.
@johnakins4199
@johnakins4199 3 жыл бұрын
@@duanedoldrum7570 I'm sure that's how Houston's fans feel after constant eliminations because the other team just goes after harden offensively. Thats literally all they do sometimes and they pick a win over Houston. So try to hide all you want but the league will systenatically pick you a part for not playing defense. A wise man once said "does it even matter how much you score if your giving up just as many points or more". The answer no bot really. Lol

I had an opportunity to watch him play up close down in Melbourne Australia. Here’s my takeaway. - exceptionally gifted passer. Sees the floor well; high basketball iq - below average shooter. His jump shoots definitely needs sharpening. - unafraid of the big moments and feeds off the crowd energy well - opposing guards had their way with him offensively. Wasn’t always supercharged at the defensive end. - wasn’t very communicative with the teammates. He was mostly on his own during the timeouts and shoot around.

Thanks for the great breakdown. Two thoughts for me: that shot has me questioning his potential (as an effective scorer in the league) and what is his individual defense like on a regular basis? Everything else sounds kinda Kidd-esque but without the ability to defend your position at the very least, the potential really goes out the window for me.

At least defensively with his steals I can see him shocking the league in his rookie season since not many players hang out in the back court. His shot will only be there when he's wide open, just like his brothers. The biggest thing we'll see is how well his passing and court vision translates to the NBA. Overall I think he'll have a great rookie season but he'll struggle shooting the 3 and probably be baited into things since he's so aggressive. I've said this for many players but year 2 is where you really see if a player will make it in the NBA. Teams have game footage of you know and can specifically target you and exploit your weaknesses.

I'm a pro-shooter and actually see whats wrong with his shot - he needs to use his legs more and position them more properly to manage that accuracy better I have Klay Tompson like form - look how he shoots, I know sometimes it doesn't matter cause you get hot and the rim feels like the ocean but for the most part Klay uses his legs properly to shoot consistently great and not get cold during subs: he puts his legs wide and uses them to aim the shots, I know from my own experience on the court so Melo just needs to adjust his mechanics because not being a threat on the perimeter may end up really messy for him on the NBA level - and omg I didn't even mention Melo's hands :(
