It would of been so much easier for him to just leave. Seeing him double down on McLaren makes it even more special. It's hard to find this kind loyalty anymore in sports or in regular life for that matter. It speaks volumes about the character of Lando Norris.

It would have been easy to leave and just guarantee himself a win. I think he is gambling that he will in the long run get more wins by staying with McLaren and hoping they sort everything out.

I’m very eager to see what Norris and McLaren will achieve in the coming seasons. Really hoping Norris will become a contender at the front of the grid consistently. If the second half of the 2023 season is anything to go by, us McLaren fans could be in for a real treat!

I honestly cannot wait for this season. Usually at this point I am looking forward to a battle for 4th or 5th in the constructors with a couple of podiums. But I really believe the team can break the top 3 this year and get some wins!

I say this as a McLaren fan & a fan of Lando, I am SO PLEASED he's extended with McLaren. I'm not against Lando wanting to leave McLaren to go elsewhere, but anywhere but Red Bull! That second Red Bull seat has chewed up and spat out so many good quality drivers and I really don't think Lando would get equal treatment to Max if he were to go there.

I think RB’s best option is Sainz. While he wouldn’t get to be a #1, he could continue to compete in a championship level car and score many podiums and a few wins here and there. The question is; will he want to go there or take a chance on Audi
@NotApplicableJB
@NotApplicableJB 8 ай бұрын
He is definitely the best option but I am not sure he would be convinced to be the understudy to a younger driver again. But Audi is such a risk.

I would argue that mclaren have also been holding norris back a bit with the 'knife-edge' car balance and also the fact that they've had an understeer car balance with weird characteristics for more than 5 years despite norris having publicly called it out (watch the abu dhabi gp 2022 post interview with norris for proof) and said that he wants a car with a stronger front, he doesn't care about the rear, but the mclaren car has a weak front and norris is forced to change his driving style. Andrea Stella has mentioned this flawed characteristics of the car, so hopefully they've been able to change it over the winter break.

I agree to an extent. If Norris was in a top 3 car he would definitely have wins by now. But I also feel like being in the midfield when you're learning the ropes is great for young drivers. You're right though, hopefully they can finally sort the car out with a new tech team and a new wind tunnel
@stevenmoran4060

if the car was so bad and Norris so much better than Danny Ricc, why is it Danny actually won a race in that car and Norris has never won a race? Sochi, wasn’t the teams fault, they told him to put for wets, Mr know it all, said no, I can manage on slicks and then crashed! Norris is after Martin Brundle F1 career stats, 160 races and no wins, he is already up to 100 races. Oscar will show the best driver in that team this year, if he doesn’t organise a move to replace Lulu. Norris isn’t good enough to lead any team, his skills aren’t up to it. Lando stays at McLaren because they pay him well and as they are never going to challenge for a championship he isn’t under any pressure. Norris could never wins races instantly at Red Bull he would crash and burn in less than a season. Bit like George Russell, they both get the hype but neither have that X factor.

What I keep thinking about is how good is the new Red Bull engine going to be, teething troubles are not uncommon. Another reason not to switch. Could end up in the Alpine Tractor column. If McLaren had not improved their car this video could have been, "Lando leaving". Wouldn't have blamed him one bit.

The McLaren isn't good enough to take a win from Max Verstappen in the Red Bull for now. I'm afraid the McLaren will drop back in the second half of the season. Max Verstappen did the same as Lando now tries to do. The difference is Lando hasn't grabbed his opertunities when they presented themselves. Now the discrapentiy in the cars is too big and he has Oscar Puastri as a team mate.

I don't think anyone could stand up to Max in a Red Bull honestly. But I think he has a good chance in the next couple of years to pick up some wins as the cars converge with the regulations being static

Lando had a much better season then ricciardo but he never had him at Monza. Ricciardo was managing the gap and set the fastest lap on the last lap.

@@NotApplicableJB Ricciardo doing the fastest lap of the race on old tyres didn't show how much he was just managing the gap. I listened to the Norris comment at the time and thought nope but I'll 're watch and check he's lap times compared to ricciardos prior to being told to hold
