Eh, a coach or a group of players can be soft, a program can’t. This is the same program that established itself as Tailback U while also pumping out NFL LBs like crazy. Which doesn’t seem soft to me. I don’t think softness is even the issue this year. They’re matching with the physical teams they play, Helton’s teams would have gotten blown out. They aren’t talented enough. Years of poor recruiting is catching up to them, especially in the trenches.

He outright said he needs to get players that are tough and really go after the ball, so that's just telling that he doesn't believe that any of our kids fit that mold at all, which is insane because he plays against them every f****** season when these kids go to Oregon or other top programs. This year California has six of the top 25 high school programs in the country and we always produce top players , so why isn't he looking here? Why isn't he putting a fence around the state? Why isn't he putting a fence around Southern California? He just doesn't think our kids are tough enough and that is just insane.

Most of the team didn't know until it was reported via the news. He snuck out the back door like a coward because he didn't want to coach against the S.E.C. As long as they can recruit in the top 5-10, like they currently are for '25 and '26, they should be competing for championships every year going forward. Lincoln Riley is not a good Head Coach. Great offensive mind but not good enough to be a CEO of a top notch CFB Program. How you have back to back Heisman Winners in Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray, an a Heisman runner up in Jalen Hurts the following year just to be 0-3 in the Playoff semifinals? Because Riley never cared about OU defense which fell off after Bob Stoops left. His ego of believing no defense could stop his offense cost OU a chance at the Natty. Then at USC, Riley wasted Caleb Williams' USC career and cost USC the Playoffs because he brought Alex Grinch to USC. Now he doesn't have an elite QB who can score 40 a game, an is playing a tougher conference in the Big 10 that emphasize on physicality. If USC wants to compete in the Big 10, they need to let Riley go. They have to money to pay for his buyout. Fire Riley and get a defensive minded coach to build a new culture in USC like Pete Carol did in the 2000s.

@arcyhicks83352 ай бұрын
I'm an Okie and don't know much about the West Coast market when comes to HS football. One would think that in state the size of CA it would be a hotbed for talent. Is that not so? If it is, then what do you contribute to So-Cal not being well recruited by the big 3? Is it a lack of incentive, laziness, or is all the talent just leaving the state?
@showtimebruin78212 ай бұрын
It’s because they’ve lost their monopoly on Southern California talent pipeline. It wasn’t long ago, any kid out of the Los Angeles area had two choices. Now, Oregon, SEC, and Big Ten powers have invaded the already declining talent market of the state. One of the motives for leaving the PAC-12 was to expand their recruiting pool. That’s why USC and UCLA weren’t pleased when Oregon joined the Big Ten. Oregon provides literally zero recruiting base yet they raid Los Angeles. The comparative advantage over recruiting just doesn’t work for the LA schools against Oregon.

I believe, and this is my opinion only, that the problem is not so much coaching staff but location. USC is not in a sweet college town like Eugene or Pasadena. It is near Lincoln Heights and definitely not cheap to live in. If you think about the days when USC was a powerhouse, LA was THE place to live. Now, California is no longer the place to play. If I was a parent trying to give my talented son an opportunity to succeed, why would I take him from the streets, to a more expensive streets (so to speak). If I was a parent in East LA or South Central, would I really want my child to move a few miles away and still be exposed to the crap I'm trying to get them away from. ANY parent with a level head would send them to a program that does produce NFL draft picks and keeps them out of trouble. Plus, with NIL and less expensive cities than LA, 5 star players can get paid and avoid high taxation in other states especially in the South. Recruits no longer worry about joining a winning program and holding tradition. They now want to earn a paycheck and be able to keep it while winning. The bad coaching is also a problem, but not so much the main one. I could completely understand if Riley had a bunch of top recruits and couldn't keep them or win with them. But the truth is we don't know what goes on behind the scenes with parents and their children committing to USC and living the LA lifestyle. For all we know he has been around LA and couldn't get any commits.

Typical USC fan base, crying and slamming table in their high chair, you can’t turn around a program that fast after 6 years of what’s his name ran it into the ground…….this season began with half of the team being the same players as last year, I said it would probably take 3 years to recruit USC into a competitive champion ( think Pete carrol) you don’t get that without a couple years of recruiting. Defense started season with new coach and a few new seasoned players but mainly retrained last year’s players for the most part, your defense ( see LSU game ) can only be so consistent when your offense has BLUE CHIPS and is balanced or your whole team is out of balance ( see Michigan game offense line went backwards until finally QB makes big completion to 5star receiver of 60 yards, I have said before it’s not MR Riley’s fault, it’s not the QBs fault,it’s not the defensive coordinator’s fault! USC simply doesn’t have enough BLUE CHIP players on the roster!! Everyone should get behind and facilitate MR Riley’s recruiting and player development and I think USC will have a Natty within 3 years…..all the top teams have 80 - 90 percent blue chips on their roster…..USC does not…..but USC does have one of the top 5 coaches in RILEY, put the big boy pants on stop crying , Rome wasn’t built in a season, trust the process…..

Things can be turned around in a relatively short time. Pete Carroll went 6-6 in year one. Then he went 10-2 in year two and a Rose bowl to show for it. In year three a national title. The coach just needs to be competent. Riley has shown from my point of view that he has no clue how to build national contender teams.

Yeah you can. Just go look at what USC was the last 6 years prior to Carroll. Same situation. You think Carroll had a ton of blue chip players when he took over? Look how quickly he turned the program around and it's because he had the right people to begin with. Riley got lazy and brought guys with him from that garbage defense and refused to fire Grinch after the Cotton bowl loss and it only made things worse. So now he's telling the fanbase that he has to do another rebuild in year 3 because of his arrogance
