In 1998, I bought some Chilean Seabass for a BBQ. It was $2.25 a lb and being considered a trash fish. And then some celebrity chef decided to feature the fish in his restaurant in New York. Now it is $23 a lb and considered an endangered species.

Then Japan should grow a big market for Lionfish: That should make demand for it cause Lionfish to have a hefty price tag and will encourage Floridians to start fishing them en masse.

Why don't she say the word "kill"? Are there children in the audience? Or does she think that "removal" sounds less violent? It sure does, but don't sugarcoat what you're doing - you're trying to exterminate a populace of a certain species in the area. That's not gonna happen considering the speed at which they breed, but it's it and that's that.
@MikhaelAhava

And the whole reason these fishes are in environments where they don't belong is because of a human. So isn't this essentially our fault?
@fordhouse8b
@fordhouse8b 8 жыл бұрын
If you believe in the concept of collective guilt, then I suppose it is "our fault." If you do not believe in the concept of blaming innocent people for offenses committed by others, then it is the fault of those who actually released these fish into an unsuitable habitat. Either way, determining who is at fault does nothing to solve the problem she was discussing.
@bye230
@bye230 8 жыл бұрын
+fordhouse8b it kinda does because if that dumb person never released those aquarium fish then would they not be populating in those areas?
@SmilingNinja
@SmilingNinja 8 жыл бұрын
+Ari Ed It is "our fault" but it should also be our responsibility to fix the problem
@crono3015

Our? I don't recall bringing the fish here. How about you? Either way, it needs to go away. Doesn't belong on this side of the Ocean.
@fordhouse8b
@fordhouse8b 8 жыл бұрын
+Ari Ed My point is that it is the fault of "that dumb person." That doesn't mean it isn't our responsibility to try to fix or alleviate the ecological problem caused by "that dumb person." Two related but separate issues.

+Maru Chan I wish I could, but I'm not sure that Lionfish is kosher. Florida should do the same thing (opening restaurants) for the Burmese Pythons. Again, being Jewish, I can't eat snake, either. But I'm not going to begrudge anyone who's going to chow down on an invasive species. Anyone know if pidgeon is kosher?

0:33 if that's the definition, what is the definition for a natural migration? some natural migrations destroy ecosystems and people start shooting at those animals, even though it happened for millions of years.. I get how some species are invasive species now, but if any harmfull animals enter ecosystems on their own. leave. it. be.
