Push comes to shove, the fans you are letting down by not showing up, are the ones that you have to appeal to. They are the ones that buy your jersey. They are the ones that buy your shoes. That being said, THEY are the ones that you need to show up for. THEY are the ones that you need to perform for.

Players today are mistaken, they are under the impression they get paid a bunch of money because they are really good at basketball. That's incorrect. However, the potential of making it to the championships should been a motivating factor. His team and the fans could have used that necessary energy had he decided to play those five-ten minutes. Willis Reed is a perfect example. His couple of buckets fueled the Knicks run to the point of winning the championship that year.

It aint no load management problem. It's the players not willing to play through bumps and bruises for that 1 thing they say they are in pursuit for. I personally blame the modern physical therapy, medical teams and dietary restraints they have on the players now days. A 28yr old should not be pulling hammy's while 'trotting' down the court. These players have world class teams of PT specialist paid as much as bench players. Dieticians monitoring and reporting on players diet to the organizations. People are pulling hammy's and sitting out of playoff games. But you still see them jumping up on the side line when someone gets dunked on or a bad call was made.

Some of these injuries are due to overuse as a result of early specialization and constant play with little breaks. Load management plus the game is less physical. In the 90s guys built their bodies to take physical punishment. And guys were just use to the physicality of the game. So there would be plays, guys end up on the floor, get right back up. Today, I'm not even talking about dirty plays, but a guy could go to the basket, end up on the floor, not even intentionally, but he's now injured because his body isn't use to it. The big thing to me is these guys sit out to "protect their brand". They don't want to play if they are marginally hurt because they think if they get a serious injury they will miss out on a bigger contract. And its like, first of all, never playing and costing your team will hurt your legacy more. And second, you guys are already multi millionaires. Most of the guys sitting out have 20m/yr contracts and they screw over the fans so that they can make sure they get that 80m extension? Then they wonder why fans turn on them? Guys back in the day used to get a fraction of what they get today and they would still go all out every game.

You’re damned if you do damned if you don’t. There’s more positions than ever in an nba game, there’s more player movement than ever in an nba game so the likelihood of stepping on someone’s ankle or pulling a hamstring has increased despite it being a less physical game. But resting players it’s making their bodies less ready to run the court for 36 to 40 minutes in an nba game especially when intensity picks up near the playoffs. Everyone makes fun of Jokic but that dude plays every game unless he’s legit hurt, he can’t jump over a curb so he doesn’t come down other players feet, he doesn’t run fast so he’s less likely to pull a hamstring.
@Kaput746 ай бұрын
Some injuries are legit and theres nothing wrong with resting to heal, but a big factor is also the MONEY, todays players are making so much money they dont want to risk shortening their careers in any way, at the slightest hint of injury they prefer to sit out, also the team as a business doesnt want to risk their investment in a player, so screw the fans if lasting another year or two in the league means a few more millions in their bank accounts. Thats why you only see superstars doing load management, the big money makers, the guys in the bench want more playtime so they can hopefully some day be amongst the superstars, and then they can sit out as many games as they want. Remember that iconic game where Isiah Thomas played with a sprained ankle? Do you think any superstar would do that in todays NBA? I really doubt it. Also back then the players had more passion for the game, they could risk it all for the victory, they just had a very different mentality, all that changes when the millions start rolling in.
