I went exploring Colorado on this day and had the place to myself! I started off a bit slow, but then I found the "fishin hole" - GIANT Brown Trout on a 3-weight fly rod!

Fly fishing for trout, fly fishing for Cutthroat in the Pacific Northwest has been a passion of mine for the last 40 years. I have spent most of my life fly fishing the great Pacific Northwest to include fly fishing in Alaska, fly fishing in Washington, fly fishing in Oregon, fly fishing in Idaho and fly fishing in Montana. I generally will fly fish and practice catch and release when fly fishing for trout, but I have been known to catch and cook during camping trips to many of my favorite fishing spots. I love to fly fish lakes in the higher elevation, though I have a few lowland lakes that are fly fishing only that are also on my most favorite list. I have a ton experience fly fishing rivers for trout and always enjoy discovering new rivers to fly fishing in and around the greater Pacific Northwest. I am also an accomplished at casting a fly rod - whether it is fly fishing casting for distance, fly fishing casting for accuracy, the double haul, roll cast, tower cast and many more fly fishing casting techniques - I can show you the basics when it comes to casting a fly rod. I also will cover many topics that relate to getting started with fly fishing. From your basic fly fishing setups, flies and fly boxes - we cover all the fly fishing needs for beginners. Thanks for taking the time to tune into FlyFishDan and I hope you consider subscribing to my fly fishing channel. Cheers and FISH-ON!!!

I lived in Colorado for over 40 years. Hunting, trapping, angling and backpacking the high country. The lake in the video is not at 10,000 ft. In elevation. The flora gives all the clues. I'm going to take a guess was it Rio Grande reservoir, found west of Creed Colorado? There is a burger joint a few miles south of the turn off to the reservoir. Don't go there unless you need a 3 hour rest. Wife and I stopped there and full three hours of line to getting a very expensive 2 burgers and fries with soda pops. Also one bathroom.

First time viewer, loved the tips and your excitement (who wouldn't be with those fish). Living in Colorado and just learning to fly fish (like was given some equipment, but never fly fished before), I was excited to hear about the location, to have my first time, maybe have a happy ending....lol. I guess the locals won't have to worry about their secret spot being exposed. I still subscribed and look forward to future videos.

Thanks Kent - welcome to my channel and to the sport! I don't often name the places I fish - otherwise I incur the wrath of EVERYONE online. It's more about inspiring others to discover new places on their own or local fly shops. Thank you again - Cheers!

Bass fishing is what I normally do. My kids got me a saint Croix bass mojo rod last Father’s Day. I haven’t purchased a rod in years and couldn’t believe how light rods and reels have gotten, to a point of worrying I would snap it. Even the reel is carbon fiber but first time out I was with my brother I kept catching and he kept taking pictures. We were using the same bait but with different line and leaders and the cast ability of my new rod and 22 lbs of drag I smoked him. As for the rod and how I can finesse the different lures, I was shocked at the flexibility! Bass see your boat and dive. My biggest was 4 lbs even! That was a record for that lake. 30 years of fishing that lake never produced much over 2 lbs.

Can you do a video of the pros and cons of the rod carrier on your pack. It doesn’t have to be a long video. I jur can’t tell if they are worth it or just more of a pain to have. Thanks!
@FlyFishDan
@FlyFishDan Жыл бұрын
I can certainly do that...the only con I have found is that it's tough to carry in tight spaces and low hanging trees...having the rod up like a radio tower is impossible in those cases.

I have a measurement of my net's opening, so I have a pretty accurate gauge. On this day - I might have overestimated on the first brown, excitement has a tendency to do that. Hopefully you got something else out of this video other than the need to spread negativity. Be kind, be well and FISH-ON!
