What's GENIUS is that Stolas is NEVER in actual danger. He primarily went out to avoid his wife and spend time with his boyfriend. Pretending he's in danger and that Blitzo is so manly and heroic, an erotic little game. That's why he doesn't really consider what Octavia wants and why she feels down. Parents often ignore the selfish motives behind how they treat their children, masking them behind concern. 'I do this for you, so how can I be the villain here?''. There's also the 'Inside Out' theme where you can't force happiness upon real troubles, as if that'll wash them away. Toddlers may be content with food, hugs, play and sleep, but as children grow up, they become their own people. You can't always combine a day to yourself with one of the kids. Octavia's nightmare as a child, that she'd be left alone, feels like a real threat. She feels left out and sees her father shower Blitzo with love and money. Heck, an opposite to her mother. Male, lowly species and profession, poor, zero class. Blitzo is part of a different world. What if Octavia is part of the world he wants to leave behind? Stolas never realized she feels that way, but she sees through him during the entire episode. And we have a fantastic transition for it in the end. Stolas looks for Octavia, but even as he enters the building he whines about Blitzo being away, and his employees being the ones 'saving' him. Because it's STILL that 'sexy dangerous' day for them. It's when he sees his daughter crying that he makes the first step, discarding that stupid hat- the hat itself going from happy, to concerned, to crying, a lovely visual addition that represents Stolas inside perfectly. He goes from thinking about himself, to seeing that his plans didn't benefit Octavia at all, and feeling terrible about it. Then it's all put to words. All the brilliant storytelling through writing and visuals is expressed. "Are you gonna run off with him... and leave me behind?" Note how Stolas starts talking about her mother and his life in general, still not grasping it. This is, again, about him. But she's not concerned with generic divorce stuff. But that he'd leave her. Now he finally realizes exactly what's going on, and it's sad he needed it explained so bluntly. He then ends it. It's time to go home, and admits she's too old. Too old to treat her feelings as a second thought, again, like she's a child that'd get happy just for being in an amusement park. Then, to further clarify this has all been about him and he didn't need protection, as one last assassin goes for him, he doesn't let him interrupt his time with his daughter. He doesn't stand and demand help. He petrifies him and moves on. Like breaking a golf club. And how PERFECT that he doesn't even look at the grand action with Blitzo behind him, which he'd surely find reeealy sexy, an ideal end to what he had planned. As the episode ends, he finally asks Octavia what she really wants and agrees to it despite not wanting it himself. He thanks her for, like, a lot, and barely reacts to Blitzo raining down. ...MAN I wrote a lot. I just found the writing really smart and got carried away. Maybe I'll find somewhere else to put this thing. Cheers!

I think it is also a possibility that Stolas is just so old that he experienced so much that finding this one spark that he hasn't experienced makes him obsess over the thing he found, like Blizzo at the moment. I mean his wife seems to be angry about Stolas being with an Imp and about his idea of getting a motel room. Maybe the problem is not him cheating, but that he is cheating with a creature (in her eyes) of lower status then them.

Yes imps are considered lower class trash in the eyes of society in hell.
@Goabnb944 жыл бұрын
And how he struggles to talk to Octavia about it. You hear him trying to say "you mother and I don't love each other anymore", but its probably deeper than that. Its probably not that they love is gone, its that the spark is gone and he gets it from Blitzo at the expense of his family. He can't describe his feelings and he knows any attempt will be futile and sound like a cop out or excuse, so he stops each time he tries to start.
@AmurTiger4 жыл бұрын
I definitely think there may be a class issue and also got the sense of Stolas being an 'old soul' . For as much as he comforts his daughter his song drops a lot of hints about this being the closing chapter of his life. With that I'm less sure about him failing to find love in the past so much as growing tired with nearly everything over some eternity of existence with only his daughter and his dalliance with Blitzo really capturing his imagination anymore. Part of this also has to do with my interpreting the portal as carrying him across time to a point where 'existence turns to dust' instead of him being gratuitously destructive.

It really isn't unrealistic in the slightest for a modern rifle to be both highly accurate and be capable of a high rate of fire. I know every sniper in videogames seems like it must be chambered in 50BMG but in reality sniping is done with something more like 5.56 or 7.62, that kind of size, which is more than possible to fire in full auto from a standing position.

@@almachizit3207 On top of that, Chris Kyle says in his book that he actually placed an M4 receiver on his Mk. 12 sniper rifle (I think) just so it would have the full-auto feature, so there’s also the possibility that Blitzo modified a rifle designed solely for accuracy in the same way- which I honestly couldn’t put past him, considering how resourceful he seems to be.
@danteinouye60983 жыл бұрын
That scene really made me think. We see him chamber a round like a bolt action when he domes the imp trying to stab stolas in his seat, but later we see the rifle being fired in fully automatic (or else he's REALLY good at bump firing). That means that, looking at the rifle when he says 'save it bitch I'm working' to stolas, it must be a straight pull bolt (which it doesn't appear to be but meh) that can also function like a closed bolt assault rifle. Doesn't look to be a gas block, though it may be hidden under the barrel shroud. Maybe it operates as a gas rifle when being fired fully auto, but he has a way to bypass the gas system to fire it by manually cycling the bolt? Or maybe I'm overthinking it and the cartoon, which contains demons and tall horny owls isn't particularly focused on realism Who knows!

But then he kind of got carried away enjoying watching Blitzo work and having fun playing the damsel in distress. She even had a picture of she drew of her and Stolas so it was clear how much she looked up to her father as a little girl and wanted to be like him. When the family began to fall apart its' clear she felt betrayed by her father.

I'm now into this series because of this episode ^^ Stolas and Octavias story was beautiful from beginning to end and the opening song was a masterpiece ^^ Barrette Wilbert Weed as Octavia was fantastic casting as she was Veronica in the Broadway version of Heathers The Musical ^^ Great video as always Finny and I almost teared up too ^^

what I like best is how Octavia could've been the grumpy teen stereotype we see in a lot of media (or at least, in ideas of cliches we THINK we see in media) but she's more than that and, beyond that, she genuinely loves her father (whereas most comedies simply make the teens unhappy and embarassed by their parents for one reason or another) and is mostly acting up as a way of lashing out due to her complex feelings. Helluva Boss being so great is why Im actually excited for Hazbin Hotel, cause if the spin off is this good, then hopefully the main show will be even better

As a gay man, it's so satisfying to actually have someone so relatable in a cartoon you watch. Gay characters have been done before in cartoons but rarely do you see one done so well and with so much depth. It's usually just some frilly character with a lisp and no discernible background other than the character being "coded."

Something that just popped into my head: blitzø has half his face white right? And clowns wear white makeup? Maybe it's symbolic of him not getting over him not being loved in a circus.

I think what makes Stolas' loss for words when talking to Octavia hit harder is that the demon he's based on (also called stolas) is a demon of knowledge, mostly astronomy, history and plant poisons, either way he's supposed to know stuff and when he doesn't, he doesn't know how to express that because he never needed to
@Goabnb944 жыл бұрын
When I first watched the episode, I thought hearing both Octavia and Blitzo say the hate Fizzarolli, I thought it was going to be a bonding thing for them. But I never clicked about him being unloved as a circus attraction, his name dropping the O, and being so obsseive about Moxxie and Millie, as being a deepseated need of his. Initially it was just "Ok this guy is just creepy"

I get why his voice might annoy some people, but personally I always thought Bryce Pinkham (or however it’s spelled) was perfect for Stolas. Having him sound more authoritative would totally defeat the point of his character
@Santisima_Trinidad4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I figured out why blitzo sniper rifle turns into a machine gun: it was never a sniper rifle. The thing is just a machine gun which blitzo strapped a big scope onto, and he uses it like a sniper rifle, so when he gets into a tight situation (or someone really deserves all of the bullet's) he can pull the ultimate power move and just machine gun them to death with his "sniper rifle", which kills them with confusion as much as it does with bullets.

Now i thin it is more likely the rilfe has multipul settings like semi auto, burst and full auto or maybe semi auto and full auto in my opinion that would kinda make sence since you can use the gun as a kind of sniper rifle but also could just empty the magazine into a target depending on what the situation calls for. That was my emidiate instict at the very least hope it makes sence

"You'll be Okay" Stolas' lullaby, is deeper than you may think. Also, the Hazbin and Helluva characters have canonical Instagram accounts that further develop their characters. Including Stolas. Stolas' account, daddy_hoothoot, which was made by Octavia BTW, and Blitzo's account, blitzorodeo, reveal their relationship is far more complicated than what the show shows. Stolas genuinely cares about Blitzo's wellbeing, and the two are actually friends.

According to Viv, You Will Be Okay doesn't take place in some nice animated backdrop that Stolas created or just an illusion. He actually took Octavia to an solar system that was dying. ( I don't think he destroyed it for the sake of comforting octavia, but he is probably capable in doing so)

From what I've read, Stolas is (possibly) Pansexual; meaning that it doesn't matter what race, gender identity or sexual orientation a being is...he still wants them. Add this along with the possible arranged marriage situation he's in with his wife and Stolas' life truly is Hell (to a degree)
@sadlobster14 жыл бұрын
