There are so many good teams at this moment and so close to each-other. There for team rankings shouldn't play a part for MVP debate. Luka has been in top 5 MVP candidates conversations every year, but now, when he truly has the best season of his career he is out. I mean based on his stats and how good he's been this year, I truly believe he should be next MVP. I can't even believe that Dončič and Embid both have around 35 PPG, this is crazy. There is only 0.6 points between them, SGA who is third is 3.5 points behind, that is huge gap. Dončič is 2nd, just behind Steph Curry, in 3's made ( 3.9 per game ), he is 3rd in assists ( 9.6 APG ), Luka is 3rd in Triple-Doubles ( 9 TD so far ) behind Jokič and Sabonis, behind centers and power forwards he is 1st rebounder ( with 8.6 RPG ). With Dončič you have this crazy games with 50+ points, and 2 weeks ago that 73 points game, I'm not sure when he had the game with 60 points / 20 rebounds / 10 assists. People often overlook his amazing vision and passes. This year he deserve to be an MVP.

I think this is majorly because of the "harden" ization or "westbrook" ism of the league. Remember when they both made making triple doubles a routine expectation in a star player (with some stat padding involved). Then the timing of it all... when both player dipped in performance and had mediocre careers for one reason or another, making an impression that making those kinds of numbers dont really make your team special, dont really get you anywhere, dont really make you a real mvp... so those factors made fans wary of ball dominant superstars that put out monster numbers regularly. The precedents and the cautionary tales have all been laid at just the right moment when luka is supposed to begin peaking. Just unfortunate.

The most valuable player plays winning basketball. Not just stat stuffing. The MVP should be one of the best on both sides of the ball. Luka is a defensive liability and his opponents go after him. I often feel like MVP is more of a team award than an individual award. It shouldn't be, but that's how the voters see it. It's almost impossible to win MVP if your team isn't a 3 seed or higher. I get it. The idea is "if you're the most valuable player your team should be good simply because you're on it," but basketball is a team sport. A team can only be a top 3 seed if the entire team is good. Sometimes the best player happens to be on a really shitty team, and no matter how good that guy is, the team will never be a top 3 seed. Team record should have nothing to do with MVP. What voters should look at is how good the team is with that player on the floor vs when he's on the bench. That's how you judge how "valuable" a player is. 6ers are still decent without Embiid. Celtics are fine without Tatum. Nuggets are solid without Jokic. But in Luka's case... he is the difference between the Mavs being a playoff team and the Mavs being a bottom 5 team. He is making a huge difference.

If this continues Luka could say goodbye to NBA. He is enjoys playing basketball but this nonsence is just fireing him to be better and better. Media is against him becouse te said couple of times something back. So he is not a quite and obedient player, but he is still getting insane numbers. Maybe is problem also in his technical fouls and issues with refferies. But still, others do that too. I don't know where is the reason? I'm just sad how some players are favoriteised becouse of what? while Luka is doing hard work.

His win shares are significantly lower than the other MVP candidates. He has high counting stats but not the highest efficiency as the other 5 elite players listed above. Look at win shares per 48, he isn't even close to jokic and sga
