Lively is my favorite story, from the draft to his impact on the team, making them actual contenders, from the loss of his mother to going 16 for 16 etc .... The mouths are set for the next 10 to 15 years because of him. Secondly, I'd say the aspect of Luka, the child prodigy starting in Europe probably made him both tougher and more skilled. Think about it, a 15 year old kid? You know he was bullied and taunted and I guarantee you that's where that massive chip on his shoulder came from, for anyone who talks s*** to him, he sees them as a bully and wants to chop them down!

My favorite story is Dereck Lively. Who would've thought this teenager out of Duke would end up being one of the most important players in the Finals? And his road through the playoffs has put him up there among the top centers already. He outplayed Chet who placed higher in Rookie of the Year than him. He clearly outplayed Rudy. I dunno if he really outplayed Zubac, was more like a draw...but it was his 1st exposure to the playoffs. And everything he's been through. Broken nose, scary looking knee injury at the Lakers that looked like it ended his amazing rookie year before it could really take flight, winning the starting job, losing the starting job, earning a role as a closer in the playoffs. And of course losing his mother. And I feel like the Mavs are a stronger team because of his mother. This team is truly a band of brothers to pick up a teammate going through something like that. It's more than the weekly dinner out and other team stuff that goes on. Even when others move onto other teams, these guys are gonna be staying in touch on the regular. This is why I will always think of Kathy Drysdale as this team's Guardian Angel, Good Luck Charm, or whatever you want to call it. And I'm sure I'll shed a few tears if I get to see Dereck having a moment with the trophy...and knowing exactly what that moment would mean to him. Having dedicated the playoff run to his mother and the pride in accomplishing it but also the sorrow of not being able to share in this moment with her & having to know she's there in spirit. This is also why I believe Lively is gonna have a 24 & 20 type of game. He's absolutely gonna end up showing out so much that he's clearly the MVP of Game X. It may even feel like the ball just somehow "mysteriously" finds it's way to Dereck for like 8 offensive rebounds & able to get 8 put-back dunks...like some Angels in the Outfield stuff. You won't be able to talk about these Finals without talking Dereck Lively II.
