They are not Moff's guards. Gideon asks the council for three Guards in the episode before. He needed them for his protection or insurance. To give you credit, the guards in the Mando series are better than the Sequel. That sequel scene was so over the top.

I don't think the sequel ones were over the top. It displayed them as non-force sensitives who were capable of fighting Jedi/Sith. Now while Kylo Ren and Rey weren't exactly trained as much as other Sith or Jedi, the Praetorian Guards still posed a threat to them even one on one. I think it perfectly displayed them as what they were supposed to be, but that's just my opinion.

@@DragonbornAtDawn I don't think the sequel guards pose a threat at all. The fight portrayed some huge plot armor, which conveyed incompetent guards during the fight. Considering Kylo and Rey weren't exactly trained as much, the guards were below the level of Royal Guards and I would argue a bold statement below the level of Stormtroopers.

I think we can be completely confident that the Praetorian Guards are not clones of Moff Gideon, as that makes no sense. Gideons clones were a secret from the other Imperial Remnant factions; he even denied any interest in cloning, when confronted about Doctor Pershing. Gideon's clones weren't even ready yet. Finally, the Praetorian Guards came from Thrawn/Pellaeon faction. Based on these facts, they couldn't be Gideon's clones. Someone else's clones? Possibly. Gideon's? No. Are they Mandalorians? Maybe, but that would have nothing to do with Gideon being on Mandalore. Until a few days before the fight, they were not even on Mandalore. We watched Gideon request from somewhere else. If Gideon was developing them on Mandalore, he would not have needed to request them, as he'd already have them. The other Warlords would be requesting them from him. I think we can confidently conclude that the Praetorian Guards had nothing to do with Moff Gideon or his operation on Mandalore. They were probably a continuation of the Imperial Guard that moved with Pellaeon's faction after the Battle of Jakku. Perhapse they were based on Illum or somewhere in the Unknown Regions.

Royal guards, here’s why. It takes three guards to take out one mando. It took one royal guard to turn the tide of a loosing battle. As well as shoot a tie fighter pilot in the head while it was flying towards the guard. So until the new guards get a comic series to go in-depth (which I would love to read) it’s the Royal Guards

Remember Gideon ask the Council 3 preatorians guards because he needed protection in case Luke appear again or in case Mando and others mandolorian came to the base to attack him. So they are not Moff's guards.

These guards couldn't focus on one enemy, didn't finish the job, and jumped over to the other "threat." They didn't portray power as much as they showed it poorly on screen. If Luke had appeared, it would be an easy win for him as the guards conveyed incompetence.

I don’t think the guards were Gideon’s since he requested a detachment. BUT, they may have gotten Beskar upgrades from Mandalore just like Gideon’s Dark Trooper Beskar armor.

@@goldpanther8787 he was continuing to lie to the council tho im pretty sure the beskar was only for his private detachment in case the others tried to get rid of him since besides thrawn and tarkin gideon is one of the most effective imperials we have seen and as a moff alot of the other council members i saw seem probs below him in rank technically and the only reason they are so far up on the foodchain now is the empire's fall

@@lordsathariel4384 💯 the Empire ran off of doing whatever you can to beat all your other fellow Imperials. So, I think Gideon def was hoarding the Beskar for his purposes only, he had it on tap, that’s something no one else in the galaxy had, which is a win. Haven’t rewatched the ep./eps. in a min but I wouldn’t be surprised if the other members even knew where Gideon was held up & also thought Mandalore was toxic. I kno they sent the guards but that doesn’t necessarily mean they knew where he was. Unless, like I said they mentioned it in the show & I just don’t remember.

@@TheBlckMandalorian from what i saw im pretty sure he woulden't of let the guards directly to his base because he doesn't trust thrawn's pawns or the other council members tbh seems to me he was making a play to take over the remnant once his beskar and force sensitive clone programs were fully complete cus at that point only real threat to him would be luke himself and thrawn

Notice that the praetorian guards in the Mandalorian are using FO stormtrooper breast plates. Also notice that these were provided by Hux so they're definitely FO and the same guards we see in TLJ

The imperial royal guards were the best of the best that the Empire had to offer, and after the battle of Endor grand Admiral Ray Sloan, self appointed grand Admiral I should add, was escorted by two imperial royal guards to peace, talks on the planet, shangrila, and these two royal guards were able to kill four new republic, Senate guards which should say something of their power

the new republic are rather poorly trained tho so it doesn't mean alot like i swear in one story a new republic senate guard got knocked out by a normal clone wars droid so they can't be anywere near competant enough to be compared to royal guards

Praetorian Guards ar Moff Gideon's disposal are NOT his clones because in S3E7 he asked the Council for some aid, namely TIE interceptors and Praetorian Guards, which he received.

Btw, the red guards Yoda fought in ROTS hadn't had the same rigorous training that the advanced Imperium period guards did. The main reason is that by that stage of the early empire, these guards had no experience fighting and surviving Vader in a fight, plus other training requirements explainedin this video. By that stage, the real reason those guards were in Palps' service, is that they were truly loyal to him and his plans, so Palps knew he could be safe amongst them at the moment the republic transitioned into the empire.

Well, that's why comics are there only to exist, and not to be considered real canon. In one "canon" comics Vader is almost planetary level, in another he only goes toe to toe with some non-force users. He demolishes whole inquisitorius like it's Sunday morning jogging, and then struggles with guys who are good with pokey sticks. At least I can get why Boba from comics, with all his equipment, may defeat some low-knight level Jedi's, yet all those comics and books are really asking to be put in legends category.

he requested them, so not his clones. also, a bit of a plot hole in the whole notion of the suit inducing pain, constant pain does not make you more alert, or angry, maybe at the very beginning, but then it just makes you tired and weak, and if anything numbs your senses, alertness and slows your responses. pity nobody with any clue told this to whomever came up with this idiotic idea (even if canon). it reminds me of the story when Christopher Lee had to explain to Peter Jackson that a man stabbed in the back will not scream ...

Those had the same armor but were trained completely differently. Those guys were just his senate guards. The actual Imperial Red Royal Guards are MUCH MUCH stronger.

The design on these pretorian guards is so much better and more practical than the ones in the sequel trilogy. The helmet design on the sequel trilogy didn't make sense to me because they had no visors and it looked so weird and goofy. These ones look very neat and have kinda a greco roman vibe much like the Mandos and they looked pretty imposing.

the Emperors Guards are the best overall but Design wise Sequel Guards look awsome the Mandalorian guards also use Red Firstorder Bekar Chestplates(Easily spotable from the back) which is kinda confusing since it is implying they are FO but maybe its just prototype armor idk

I think there’s one feat we are forgetting about the Empire Royal Guards... Yoda had to take two of them out by surprise in order to have a fair fight with Palpatine. Not even a lightsaber fight with the guards, just a surprise force attack to take them out. Yoda may of looked calm but he was sh**ting brinks, hoping they didn’t turn around. The Jedi Grandmaster hesitated to engage them and took them out instantly. Such a presence

I wouldn't call being knocked out as a feat, Yoda does not know the training or abilities Royal Guards had, as no Jedi at the time really had a fight with one considering this is the start of Order 66. Yoda simply knocked them out, so he didn't have to do any more meaningless combat. although I think the royal guards had some good feats, this just isnt one of them.

If they could be knocked out whist wearing armour then they could also have their necks or spine broken wearing that same armour, we never did see the guards in question get up after Yoda attacked them so who knows!

@@Ashgreig999 thats a good point, but the difference between neck snapping and getting knocked out, is when your skull presses against your brain, but with neck snapping you actually have to break the locks of the neck and the bottom of the head, which is significantly different when considering armor. not to mention the movement in which they were shoved into the wall. Additional note, I appreciate your sportsmanship, whenever I try get into a talk such as this im always treated with hostility... nice change of pace.

i've never once seen a royal guard do anything except be told to leave or get knocked out before they ever know whats happening. vader swatted them away like flies. do these guys make alot of money for standing there looking scary? the praetorian guards to...at least they did something or tried to! the crimson empire series from darkhorse comics makes the imperial guard look pretty hardcore

Once again, although they were capable, the whole Luke vs Vader thing wasn't to kill Luke, it was for Luke to strike down Vader and turn him to the dark side. (that is if you were watching the movie)

Proved their prowes again Paz Vizsla? Sorry I must have seen a different movie. They ganged on an already tired mandalorian in a damaged armour without his weapons or jetpack. That fight just made the praetorian guards comparable to hyenas. I've yet to see any live action material where any of the guards proved their effectiveness. The Last Jedi fight coreography was pathetic I love the Royal Guards and since we didn't see them in combat, they remained mysterious, they weren't ruined by bad cinematography...and they have the best costume design. Sorry, just my 2 cents.
