To be fair, 99.9999% of the galaxy hasn't maintained a formal army for thousands of years. When you're the only culture who practices combat & warfare on any sort of large scale, you'll probably wipe the floor with anyone who doesn't posess an overwhelming numbers or firepower advantage (hence why Din & Bo-Katan had to draw away the cruiser & fighters).

@@granatmof you may want to check that info again my friend. Remember in star wars armies are nerfed or buffed cause plot armor. Just 1 imperial star destroyer frop ep 4 (the 1st episode by release) is enough to "nuke" Moskow, from orbit. Just remember the night of 1000 tears. You cant just nuke your issues away if nukes can be doged, intercepted shot down before launch. In star wars the only 3 "militaries" worth mentioning. The Empire, The Rebellion, Pirate Nation. Mandalorian Army(defunct) The rest are armed groups too few too loose in cmand and in numbers to be called militaries. But even those can dent Russia s Army for example. Looking in what a bad state russian armed forces is in right now. If you were to take nukes away from all earth. One imperial star destroyer just 1 is enough to fuck earth. They can't in a culture of warriors, that constantly fight with each other, they would never unite as a people, if they held grudges. I think that was the problem with Bo-Katan. She was too emotional . I think expanding with Bo-Katan is good, because she is more of a leader than Din, but what will be interesting is going to all the clans with different views. Trying to bring back Wren to her side, and preventing Mandalore joining the Republic, trying to get Saxon back despite their history. I absolutely loved this episode simply because of the fact that it *finally* shows the Mandalorians doing what they do best: small unit tactics. The Mandalorian kill teams in Star Wars are supposedly the absolute best in Star Wars and have been for millennia. At least according to the lore. Unfortunately, they have mostly been portrayed as very competent lone mercenaries and bounty hunters, which they also are; but it's not supposed to be their forte. There was a reason the Empire decided to just glass Mandalore instead of a conventional invasion... they would have been ripped to shreds if they did and knew that.

Its funny to consider that Mandalorians and Jedi have more similarities than they're willing to admit. They have rocket launchers, they didn't even need to get pinned down. 2 seconds after taking out the turret someone uses a wrist mounted rocket to take out two random pirates who weren't even under cover. It would have been better to see the turret be setup, have them take cover, make a signal for one to make covering fire draw the turret to one side while the rocket launcher takes it out from the other side. Instead they allowed themselves to get boxed in on the street instead of having units using the jetpacks to seize the high ground and provide supporting fire from on high. The way to defeat Mandalorians is allow their pride and glory seeking to put them into tactically bad situations.

@@granatmof You hafta remember this is Child of the Watch, not Death Watch or Shadow Collective or whatever faction that's primed primarily for war. regardless of how well-trained these Mandos are, they're still, for the most part, civilians who prioritize surviving & passing on their warrior culture, instead of actually learning how to fight wars in almost every waking moment. i'd even argue that a good number of them never got into firefights serious enough that tactics & formations are absolutely required, given that their gear is widely regarded as top-of-the-line & just bum-rushing into enemies with superior gear is enough to come out on top most of the time. ironically, those flaws are actually well-done for the context, since it actually shows that they still have a long way to go if they were to prove themselves as an effective fighting collective, & how they're still more of a civilian tribe than an actual military unit.

I loved the tactics and firing and maneuvering executed at a squad level, it was just so refreshing to see something good and solid as opposed to some crazy outlandish shit that is trying too hard. These are seasoned veterans of conflict, they've been around the block a few times. As soon as one of them gets taken out (he could have lived but the kinetic energy from the EWEB or whatever heavy repeater definitely knocked him on his ass) they are darting into cover and waiting for their maneuver element (in this case the armorer) to flank and neutralize the threat, whereupon they immediately continue progressing through the town and covering and supporting each other despite their inherent advantage. They are aggressive and eschew to a more "Fortune Favors the Bold" doctrine of superior firepower, and aggressive pushes meant to catch people lacking and combine the separate elements into a spearhead after taking our the fringe elements on the outskirts that would have converged and flanked them otherwise. This firefight was a breath of fresh air the likes of which have not been seen since Andor and Rogue One. They may be some bad motherfuckers too, but pirate or not once you surrender they aren't going to just gun you down because they have a sense of honor. They truly are the best fighting force in the galaxy, it's just a shame that much like the Spartans of old their society isn't sustainable to a grand scale thus causing them to be overwhelmed by blistering firepower and unrelenting numbers from the empire.

I think the reason why this didn't happen is because the people of Nevarro really just wanted peace at that point, and it wouldn't have been feasible to try to find enough workers to man the ship, as no one would want to. I think it would've been cool in the Mandalorians took the ship for themselves, but then that would actually be the opposite issue: They want nothing but to fight. I often think of the Mandalorians as analgous to the Mongol Hordes in our world. They work best as Warrior-Nomads, forming massive warbands whenever a charismatic leader comes up. After that they usually take over many worlds, but don't seem to often directly govern them. They instead extract tribute, and then incorporate some of the population into their own ranks to continue the crusade. After that, they just scramble to balance logistics between managing their warfleets, and keeping their teetering empire together. I would LOVE to see the post-sequels era involve a Rise of the Mandalorians type thing.

I want to know the Children of the Watch's answer to the logistical questions that are raised by their existence. Currently theyre the military arm of an independent trade planet. Basically think varingians and byzantium. If they need to scale past that id say a feudal system. Basically navarro but more they set up fortifications on planets in return for mando protection the planet feeds and pays them. No pirate is messing with mandalorian knights(paladins?) And they get real protection unlike republic or first order. Considering the language karga uses is very feudal, the fact mandalorians are essentially a crusader order with no crusade or kingdom. And a "pirate alliance" is mentioned as a legitimate faction. TL;DR KING ARTHUR IN SPACE BITCH

Traditional Mando culture had ranks and different roles for the warriors. The armor we see now is a elite commando. It allows Maneuverable tactics vs the neo Mando armor which was considered a heavy grunt as it completely covered the body in beskar and had a different helmet design. Color according to the books had meaning and it also could reflect the rank. It will be interesting to see how Disney approaches this if at all since they killed most of the pre-disney lore.

They won, but they weren't as effective as they could have been. They wasted time playing with flamethrowers in open spaces and using grappling hooks at enemy combatants instead of just shooting. When they came under heavy fire from a fixed turret, none of them used the readily available wrist and back mounted rockets to take it out, instead relying on but not communicating to other fireteams of the threat. They likewise have jetpacks and failed to have units acting as sniper and supporting fire positions. They need to train better at how to operate as smaller fireteams to gain more teams to move around the battlefield with quicker more hit and run tactics to further divide a larger fighting force. Their shot placement was overall pretty good considering the rules of Star wars, but it can always be better. Not sure of the barrel and ammo capacity of blaster rifles, but I expect it to be hundred of round per power pack and thousands of rounds per barrel. Recharging can be cheap as well as swapping and recycling barrels so they're not constrained by ammunition limits in training.

Remeber that Mandalorian armor is also made out of beskar, which lightsabers can't cut. Properly made beskar'gam will protect a fighter from almost everything but heavy anti-armor artillery. That increases survivability, which leads to increasingly experienced fighters, and that leads to increased lethality. Furthermore, their clan structure, which actually revolves around small family units, increases unit cohesion, and that too leads to survivability and lethality.

What i always wondered about mandalorian armor is if it is sealed, if it can used as a space suit in the vacuum of space. If it is when coupled with a jetpack it could allow them to board enemy ships, they disembark from their ship, use the jetpacks to approach the enemy one, cut open the hull, enter and slaughter the crew inside, not only they disable an enemy ship, they can also commandeer it and use it themselves.
