Aw come on, Mario & Sonic WOG 2010 on the DS was fire! It has an adventure mode, with an overworld, and a plot, and sidequests, and collectibles... All the games in the series should've been that!

it’s so weird to see how much these games sell despite having little effort put in to improve them (or at least having them loaded with content when they launch), and yet we can’t blame the casual gamers who consistently buy these - they don’t know any better, or don’t care. it’s frustrating 🤦🏼‍♂️

The fact that these games sell well just makes it so much worse. It would be one thing if these games were selling poorly, and Nintendo used the "finish it later" strategy to reduce development cost and try to increase the game's longevity. It's more annoying when they are doing it for no apparent reason. I thought Nintendo was done making games as anemic as Ultra Smash when the Switch turned out to be successful, but here we are with Strikers Battle League. It is a damper on their multiplayer games. I've complained about the Switch not having a new Mario Kart, but if they were to bring back F-Zero or make a new racing game in the meantime, my immediate expectation is "it will be lackluster at launch, and they are going to trickle other updates over time". The Switch is touted as a golden age for Nintendo, but stuff like this is why I disagree.

I feel like the Mario and Sonic games are seriously underrated especially with the ds era the adventure mode in 2010 I love it so much fun some missions are really difficult but overall it’s a blast I can fathom how the switch sports are really underselling cause we’re so happy with strikers after 15 long ass years but lack of characters the Ai is not very challenging I think charged on Wii has it better with better quality but I’ll give it one thing the gear was nice feature not any other strikers games have it I did like that improved until it first launched with no dlc Wtf next level games why remove daisy until dlc that’s so dumb I mean she’s in the game but to be a dlc character I think it’s her first game she was a dlc it’s like nobody else cares about her character wise or Nintendo once again is messed up every game not even updates can redeem themselves

Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 is the best Mario sports game by default simply because it had all content at launch and didn't have any updates!

It's not much of a secret. They're lacking in creativity and innovation in arcade sports game design. Mario Kart is a spinoff too, but every game they're pushing the limits of imagination and the hardware and somehow still running the game at 60fps. The other spin off games have become cash grabs at worse, and lackluster at best. Certainly not worth the same $60 that bought me Mario Kart 8 and BOTW.

I have less nostalgia for previous entries but I fuck with Aces and Super Rush, at least as someone who got a switch a couple months ago lol. However, definitely understand why folks who paid full price at launch wouldn't be fond of them, although the updates being free always makes me less kerfuffled about the practice. Just odd they do it so often with these games specifically. Even i decided to use a $20 gift card and some gold points on Aces after looking at how it compared in terms of things to do with Power Tennis. But I will say, yeah the actual gameplay of both are very addicting and very fun. Its not like I'm a golf fan or anything, but the speed golf and the battle mode are always fun, and the unique mechanics to Aces i find engaging enough. Plus everybody has mad drip in these ones and Tan Daisy bonus points. But yeah, I doubt they plan for these games to be played for hours on end by little to no social life schmucks like us, so to them just a small trot in a story mode to act as a tutorial and unlock shit is enough for single player action and i mean i don't blame them. Anytime i think of Mario sports, i see games primarily played during family gatherings or just casual fun play sessions between siblings/friends. So I think its more a rising disconnect with a specific sect of the audience than anything really super deep or conniving on the dev's end. Except with Battle League, now that one is an atrocious example. This one i feel more strongly towards cause i do have a lot of nostalgia for charged, and its crazy how aside from the graphics, this game is worse in almost every way imaginable. I get that very few if any of the people that worked on the first 2 strikers were on this one, and no hate to any of them but man... I waited 14 years for a comeback and it's just embarrassing even AFTER updates. They only got 2 new characters at all, and didn't even manage to bring back every veteran as we're missing Petey and technically many previous sidekicks since they took the time to make Toad and Birdo standalone. The stages are nothing but visual changes, the original charm and personality of the series is heavily reigned in. Either this new team leaned too far in trying to differentiate themselves from the first 2 or Nintendo was really breathing down their necks to sanitize it a bit which idk so much about after learning from the guy behind the first 2 games that Nintendo were the ones that encouraged the original attitide in the first place since they didn't want it to be another happy go lucky sports series. Maybe views changed, but man. If a new one happens hopefully they can capture that energy again and of course add actual content beyond armor. Also Mario and Sonic Olympics are great, you missed me with that one lol. Granted i missed out on London and Rio but the first couple i loved as a kid and have been enjoying the latest one. Not perfect but good times for what they are and the newest story mode is very lovingly made i feel. Im sure past ones are too from clips I've seen.

What happened to Battle League was just wrong, man. FINALLY a new Mario Strikers and it's gutted by Modern Nintendo's complacency. A spinoff series with so much charm, identity and spirit just half-assedly shat out onto the house money maker with promises of making the 60% finished game into an 80% finished game months down the line, and then it's just abandoned and left to rot. Makes me wonder why people are even looking forward to the next sports title, that's a level of faith I'll never understand .

The Mario sports games on Switch are actually not that financially successful. The sales are dropping off a cliff over time, even according to the charts you used in this video, because even casuals are catching onto the poor quality of these games. Being the best-selling in the series is not impressive either, because the previous best-selling games were on the N64, GameCube and 3DS - systems with a fraction of the install base of the Switch.

I'm taking back that like just for the unnecessary dig at M&S. They follow exactly the same trend of the early ones being good, then getting REALLY good, then progressively dropping in quality over the years. I get that you probably didn't want to bother talking about games that don't interest you but you could've still acknowledged them as side mentions like with Sports Superstars. I'd rather you simply not mention them than that last second dunk. I'm legit a bit salty; it ruins the whole video since I was liking it so much up to that point. Also Sports Mix is pretty good, but same deal, nobody gives a shit about that one for some reason.

I can tell you why- they're terrible. There you go, end of video. I bought Mario Tennis Virtual Boy this year and it's my favorite Mario Tennis game, period. Even beating out Mario Tennis 64 and GBC, two games that have Nostalgia Bias, Recency Bias, and Not Being on The Virtual Boy Bias on their side. I can totally like games that are new to me as long as they aren't terrible.

I don't hear much negativity about Toadstool Tour. I still love Mario Golf 64 to this day, but my brother and I tried renting Tour as kids, and I remember thinking it was pretty boring.
