@marilunabeilschmidt35363 жыл бұрын
@@vanblitz7009 I think they did great Job with "Black Widow" recently. She is - in my opinion - not the type of Character who is suited for a "traditional" hero story. She is one who holds her feelings to herself, still doing what she thinks is right. And that's what her movie is all about. Well, I think it is, anyway. ^^ In general, in my opinion it is very difficult to make several characters as different as the MCU / DCEU - Heros fit into their own storys as well as into a greater narrative (and Crossovers). All their motivations and goals need to somehow fit into it. I can't really explain that. Maybe when you write a story, decide on the Character's motivations first...? And then think of a story that would develop out of those motivations...? Something like that?

@@vanblitz7009 In terms of movie-quality, continuity and marketing: The MCU. I really hope they will use it right sometime in the future. Anyway, what do you think? Which do you like better?
@vanblitz70093 жыл бұрын
@@marilunabeilschmidt3536 I respect that. In my opinion, I would choose the MCU because it has really been a big part of my life in this couple of years, it will forever have a special place in my heart. In terms of the actual quality of their movies, they're just better at making us love the characters, they were able to make lesser known characters like the GOTG, Strange, Antman, Wanda etc. so ICONIC while the DCEU is struggling with their famous characters (No hate intended). The fact that they were able to pull this off with different directors is astounding. I love the DCEU too, It surely has its own charm, in fact there are times where I kinda like it more than the MCU, in some aspects. But even with that, The MCU is the far better one for me.

Yeah, when people are more excited for a movie with a tree that just says: I am Groot then a Batman movie, you know that something has gone wrong. Marvel had the necessity to make good movies because the characters weren't well known, they couldn't just go off name recognition, they sold all their best-known characters. So the movie had to be good to get the audience invested. DC has the most famous characters of them all, they know that at least a certain amount will go to the movies to see those characters on screen. They are focussing less on making a good movie and just on getting money. Both companies want more money but since Marvel had no big names in their arsenal, they had to make good movies to get audiences interested.

They drive the protagonist insane. Marvel movies just replace that with kid friendly content. It's because DC movies feels like child cartoons. Scripts are too simple and meaningless. They need a good writer as well as patience. DC tried to create its Infinity war movie while marvel prepared its actors and actresses for over 10 years. That's why each of Marvel heroes has their fans. Additionally, DC has no balance the justice league could not able to defeat Steppenwolf whereas Supermen ended him in seconds. It's actually meaningless and boring. Marvel characters strong in comics but in movies they are made way more weaker than they are in comics and it really helps to create entertaining movies. Meanwhile DC movies uses their characters with their full potential and it feels like too much and make that movie more cartoonish.

Yeah, agree. As I understood, TJL had to be something similar to the first Avengers movie, where all the heroes meet each other for the first time. We already know their stories, predict reactions, but in TJL we have 2 known characters, then 2 appears from nowhere (and still till the end of the movie we have no clue what the hell they are doing there) and 1 is suddenly revived. There's no plot consistency, so no wonder TJL had such a poor performance. They should've introduced the Flash and Aqua man in 2 separate movies, the intersection of the team in an attempt to revive Superman, and only at the end of the 3rd movie, give a hint to TJL. Then it would be much consistent, and the plot wouldn't be like a roller coaster. But they decided to skip that and put 4 movie plots into 1.

The key is that the 3 main characters in the Avengers, Iron Man, Thor and Captain America had already had their introduction movies. In those introductions most, if not all, of the secondary characters (Black Widow, Hawkeye, Fury, etc) had been introduced too. Even Spiderman had his own movie before they dragged him into the larger group. Doctor Strange, Ant Man and The Guardians also had their own movies before they were brought into the extended universe. On the other hand, with DC, we had two characters with any kind of cinematic history by the time they did their super group movie, Superman and Wonder Woman. The current iteration of Batman hasn't had his own movie yet and the other three, Flash, Cyborg and Aqua Man, were brought in cold. While all these characters are familiar to almost everyone, in some way or another, we weren't familiar with their cinematic versions. In short, DC is doing everything ass backwards. Marvel introduces their characters, let's them than have their own spotlight for 1 or 2 movies and THEN brings them into the group. Dc did the exact opposite. With the exception of the first Superman movies, it was "Throw them in a group, we'll sort them out later".

At the end of the day, Marvel made movies because they wanted to reach a wider audience and bring their characters to life, so sat down and made a ten year plan that introduced every character before they interacted, or gave you enough on them that you cared about their storyline (even Vision had a bit of an established character as Jarvis). DC on the other hand tried to cash in on the superhero craze in the same way, but instead of thinking it through or letting us get to know the characters, they released them all in quick succession, and only gave us two films of the five focusing on one hero. TLDR; there's a VERY clear difference in how much each company actually cares about the films they're making.

Marvel is just great. I mean, they made solo movies and other movies connect to one. Like damn, that's smart. Edit :: to everyone saying that it isn't smart. All I'm saying is that Harry Potter might be interconnected since it is a SERIES or that blah blah blah and shit. My point was most people expected Marvel to go down in ashes since they hired RDJ out of all people, and not many people expected a post credit scene. The 10 year buildup was a smart move even before Disney. They didn't rush it unlike the DCEU.

When I saw BvS, the biggest problem I saw with it was that they were trying to do what Marvel did with the Avengers, but without any of the buildup. Marvel did solo movies with their characters before doing the Avengers so that we would already care about the characters going into the film, but I wasn't really invested in the DC characters. The movie also seemed like it only existed to set up for future movies, which detracted from its quality. It's okay to set up for future films in your movie, but you also have to make sure that the movie is good on its own.

This is somewhat similar to the reason I've always liked Marvel over DC. The philosophies of the way the two companies go about their superheroes is different. Marvel has characters that are relatable, no matter who you are there is a Marvel character you'd be able to relate to. DC has characters that you can look up to, to inspire you, for you to want to be like them. There's a good number of people who don't like Marvel's approach to it because they say they don't want to go to a movie or read a comic to see themselves. So it is just a matter of preference. But it's quite the opposite for me. Peter Parker struggles to be Spider-Man, Batman is Batman everywhere he goes, he uses his identity of Bruce Wayne to make new tech/plans for Batman. Thats the difference between Marvel & DC

Watching this video made me remember something J.K.Rowling always said about Harry Potter characters, or rather, the way she always talks about them. She always talks as if the characters are the ones that make choices and decisions and act a certain way, at which she may be surprised herself. So I quite agree with this video. You need to work your characters' choices and motivations, and then, with those as a basis, build a story on them. A really good point, actually.

Thor Ragnarok was another point in this video's favor. Thor being more jokey did come off a bit out of nowhere but his character arc across the three Thor movies was properly completed when he takes the throne of Asgard but this time he's humble about it and he finally reconciles wiht Loki.
@shaunom83636 жыл бұрын
Another big reason as to why it sold me is that they were able to humanize a god and make him relatable (an otherwise lazy reasoning by DC saying Superman and etc. are too godly and therefore too hard of a character to relate). His [Thor] jokes, give or take a few ones taken too far, and interactions with other characters were very real and ORGANIC.
@elin1116 жыл бұрын
Infinity War had over 20 characters at once yet it still felt organic because people like these characters and got to know them so we get excited when the crossovers happen. In Justice League Wonder Woman was the only character with any personality and half the team were complete strangers, it's no shock that people weren't excited about that team up.
@heroicdefender97476 жыл бұрын
I think in Thor Ragnorok--- It was stated by Thor himself that the reason he ended up cracking jokes here and there whether they are funny or not because he spent too much time around Tony Stark... So the habit sort of rubbed on him a bit. But yes I agree... Even though I found the humor to be a bit out of place in some of the scenes, the film nonetheless developed Thor's character beautifully and seeing him reconcile with Loki was a great highlight in the film.
@elin1116 жыл бұрын
Then it'd make sense that he's less jokey in Infinity War given what happens in the opening scene.

Pretty much--- Throughout the movie, Thor was almost pretty serious because he was still emotionally broken after witnessing the death and destruction that Thanos and the Black Order had caused on his Asgardian ship... It's wrong. Because he's based it on JLeagues flop, when it's universally known for it straying away from the DCEU tone. Whereas if you look at the beginning Arcs of Superman in MoS up to BvS you'd notice the fundamental flaw in this analysis. Which is claiming that Marvel stuck to it's tone and character arc, which in fact DC did too, only that DC only had 5 movies in minus Jleague and Suicide Squad because it completely strayed from the DCEU premise? Which makes this whole thing unreliable. And finally. He is right to an extent. Marvel is all about the character perspective, the main character perspective. DCEU is not. Which makes the act of comparing them much like comparing apples and oranges. DCEU is a kind of a hybrid of character driven and plot driven stories, in which the main focus is the subjects and themes of their narrative. Which is why we see Lois in MoS at the helm of their plot, the plot driver if you will. And in BvS is more or less of the same, in which through her Lex's plot is unfolded. Superman in BvS is treated like a silhouette forcing us to look at him at "other" character's perspectives. Which serves the main point of the film. As to how the world would respond to a Superman. In which they did right. Now it's a subjective matter if you like that execution or not, certainly I do, however, it's undeniable that most do not. So objectively speaking MCU did not make better movies than the DCEU, because their executing their films differently.
7 жыл бұрын
Bro, speechless... Btw I've been saying this to people and of course people call me a "Marvel fanboy". Which in turn in just like "wow, people do not want to be told their favorite characters are being treated like crap".
7 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Starsmoure Well, you're notion of the DCEU is "doing it right" is subjective. What you are failing to see is that great characters is what makes people come back to these films because you tend to connect with them and their story arcs continue through the different films. DCEU on the other hand plays the event with the characters being in it. The problem with that structure is that there is no connection to the main characters and it makes us not care for them because essentially they are extras in event film. Example, the movie The Day After Tomorrow had characters that nobody gives a shit about because the whole premise to the film is about the event and not the characters themselves. The event is what drives the plot forward with everybody essentially just in it to response to what's going on around him or her. When somebody does die it becomes meaningless and a CGI visual effects fest. When you look at movies like Civil War the characters that we've come to know have a dilemma internally they must now face against their own teammate because it comes down which side are you on? And in turn makes the audience also question themselves as to which side would you take not because of who your favorite character is but because you're seeing both sides from different points of view. Character already having developed traits and how they would react it's like second nature and very natural. Somebody not dying does not give weight to the conflict if someone actually does die but the fact is the fear of losing anybody gives that plot that much more intensity. Unlike in BvS when Superman dies it does nothing to the human emotions except that he's dead for the greater good of humanity but again we have not known him to save anybody up to that point. Making his death just lazy and making us trying to care for something not earned or there to begin with.
