When you said meditation was like exercising the brain. Every time you pull your attention back to focus its like doing a push up. This has changed my whole perspective and has me going down a new pass for real self improvement. Focusing on what i can do in the moment has helped me do more than before and feel better about not doing it all

I was really enthralled in my Darth Vader breathing, but I literally felt as if someone was looking at me. I stopped and gazed, and it was my cat looking at me with the most surprised/weirded out look I've ever seen in my life. It made me burst out laughing. Ah, I love meditation and the awareness it brings.

The Darth Vader breathing really slowed my inhale/exhale rate down. When I opened my eyes I was in an altered state of mind - as my brain was a solid hunk of fat which liquified and sank into the lower cavity of my skull like resting water in a pond. I felt pretty cerebral, calm and clearminded. i could more easily pursue purpose.

I think people get angry during meditation because the sheer amount of thoughts that are bombarding you is exhausting. In the beginning it is relentless, and you get very frustrated trying to bring your awareness back to your breath again.

I believe that anxiety is simply fear of a potential future, created by the mind. It falls into the same category as depression in many ways so I will just copy paste the comment I left on a depression video Dr. K. made. I dont think depression actually exists, as opposed to it being a side effect of a healthy mind poisoning itself. It is completely normal for a human being to be sad about negative thoughts. The real question is, why are your thoughts negative? Why are you poisoning yourself with these negative thoughts? Nobody can take sadness and put it in to you. You create it and experience it from within. When you talk to yourself, how do you talk to yourself? Do you say "Oh my god im so stupid," or maybe "Oh im just an idiot, look how much of a failure I am?" Is that how you would talk to a child who needs help? Sometimes we can be physically mature and not emotionally mature. A grown man with a child in the mind. You would not or should not ever talk to a child like that. The types of things you would say to a child would be along the lines of "It is fine, you will do better next time" or even "get up and try again because you are capable!" Unfortunately these are learned phrases that usually come from a father figure, and a lot of us grew up in broken homes without a father figure. Or the one we had was not very good at parenting, probably due to his lack of good parenting like a snowball effect. Talk well to yourself, because you deserve it. Love yourself and most importantly learn to forgive yourself for the mistakes you do make. Try and see mistakes as the best moments to grow from, as opposed to just negativity aimed at you. I love you all, and I hope you all find peace.

@@Kvh47 onomatopoeia is the formation of a word from a sound. it's a real thing and people have been doing it for comic books and text media since forever. just like meditation, understanding a concept takes time and constant effort, as you said it is foreign to you now, but looking at other's examples and trying to understand how "whhhhooo - hhhhhheaaah" makes sense to others can make it make sense for you. it's nothing to get frustrated about as even i don't understand everything, just don't beat yourself up about it because self discouragement is the strongest form of discouragement. hope this helps

Spelling my breath would require overlapping two letters at the same time Like, it's not hhhhhmmmmm nor is it hmhmhmhmhhmhmhmhmhmhm It's more like hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh and mmmmmmmmmmmm at the same time Inhalation vs exhalation: Actually the same, except reversed in pitch. inhale: hmm pitch rises, exhale: hmm pitch falls. (Still h and m coincide. This is not quite like humming.) Additionally, inhales are quieter than exhales.

But isn't meditating daily for 10 minutes considered more effective than 3 times a week for 20 mins?
@96moliveira
@96moliveira 13 сағат бұрын
That doesn’t actually matter much. The point is to do it, as often as you can, for as long as you can. It is easy to get lost in trivial details at first ( what method should i use, should i meditate for 3 or 5 minutes? Should i use sounds or not? ) THAT DOES NOT matter. Start small, 5 - 10 min a day if you prefer, then build from there. The most important thing is to learn to build the habit and make meditation A PART OF YOUR LIFE, just like eating, sleeping and studying / working. After a couple of months meditating frequently, then you can start to worry about going deeper, making it “ more efficient” changing to a “ better method” etc. Have a nice journey.

I have several major issues with clinical studies on mediation for several reasons: 1) Reporting Bias: people studying mediation generally want good results, so naturally they’re only going to release studies that had a positive conclusion regarding the subject, and are much less likely to publish studies that produce inconclusive results 2) Placebo Effect: again, this is difficult to measure, because generally when people get serious into meditation they do so for its perceived benefits. There needs to be better ways to measure the placebo effect 3) Many results already seem to be inconclusive, when compared to other treatments
@AnonKnowsMe

@krishnaallam1178
@krishnaallam1178 4 жыл бұрын
There are issues with your arguments. 1) Reporting bias is a problem in the assessment of healthcare interventions, but if we chalked up every finding to reporting bias there would be no advancment in research. This is a catch all argument and not specific to clinical studies on meditation. 2) The placebo effect is a very real problem if the measurements are based on self reported surveys about the treatment's perceived benefits. The placebo effect is a much smaller problem in neuroimaging studies. There was a meta-analysis of 21 neuroimaging studies that showed consistent morphological alterations in 8 brain areas in meditators. While it does not show a definitive link between meditation and altered brain morphological, to disregard the cumulation of evidence thus far does not make a lot of sense. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/24705269 3) I agree that many results are inconclusive but this largely depends on the dependent variable that is being measured. This is large variety in what is being measured some dependent variables include: stress, intelligence, attention, self-concept, personality traits. The effect of a particular type of meditation varies widely across these dependent variables. One type meditation may have a large effect on one variable and no effect on another. Just because it had no effect on one of the dependent variables does not mean that there would be no benefits to meditation. I know this is just about your opinon on clinical studies and I do not know if you've tried or you actively meditate, but if you're not I would suggest you give it a go. I think skepticism is very important but I also think we should not be dismissive. I'm not sure meditation will help everyone, but it has worked for me.
