A big thing that has helped me is the caffiene and weight issue. My doctor was on me about being overweight and so when I retired I made a commitment to myself. After dropping over 30 lb, I found that I was sleeping better and lessened my BPH symptoms. It's been a struggle to keep the weight off, but cutting out sugary drinks (used to drink cola's several times a day) and drinking just plain water a lot more, it's lessened my 'sugar craving'.

His research is on metabolic syndrome and insulin resistance. 45% of Americans have fatty liver and 85% of Americans are affected by metabolic syndrome. Water fasting, also known as water-only fasting, is a type of fasting where an individual consumes only water for a specific period. This means abstaining from all solid foods, caloric beverages, and sometimes even electrolyte supplements. _Purpose:_ People engage in water fasting for various reasons, including: 1. *Weight loss*: Water fasting can lead to rapid weight loss due to caloric restriction. 2. *Autophagy*: Fasting can stimulate autophagy, a natural process where the body breaks down and recycles damaged cells and proteins. 3. *Improved insulin sensitivity*: Water fasting has been shown to improve insulin sensitivity and reduce blood sugar levels. 4. *Mental clarity and focus*: Many people report improved mental clarity and focus during and after water fasting. 5. *Spiritual or religious purposes*: Water fasting is sometimes used for spiritual or religious purposes, such as detoxification, self-reflection, or seeking spiritual enlightenment. _Duration:_ Water fasting can last from 24 hours to several days or even weeks. Common durations include: 1. *24-48 hours*: A short-term fast for beginners or for specific health benefits. 2. *3-5 days*: A moderate-term fast for more experienced individuals seeking deeper autophagy and detoxification. 3. *7-14 days*: A longer-term fast for experienced individuals seeking more profound physical and spiritual benefits. _Precautions:_ Before attempting water fasting, consider the following: 1. *Consult a healthcare professional*: Especially if you have any underlying medical conditions. 2. *Start with shorter fasts*: Gradually increase the duration as your body adapts. 3. *Listen to your body*: If you experience severe symptoms, such as dizziness, nausea, or extreme hunger, consider ending the fast. 4. *Stay hydrated*: Drink plenty of water throughout the fast. Remember, water fasting is not suitable for everyone, particularly those with certain medical conditions, such as diabetes, or those taking certain medications. Always prioritize your health and consult with a healthcare professional before attempting water fasting.

Was pleased to see you make a correlation between constipation and urinary symptoms. I've been chronically constipated for over a decade, coupled with BPH-related nocturia (80 gm prostate). I've probably consulted a half-dozen urologists & gastroenterologists over the years, ALL of whom immediately dismiss any discussion of whether the issues compound each other. I think specialization has gotten to where doctors are losing sight of the forest for the trees. Glad to see that you haven't! I have to get up every 90 minutes or so at night to urinate, but can go all day with no problem. Someone said it's because the kidneys increase urine production at night, which fills the bladder quicker, resulting in an aching belly, and the need to get up to relieve it; due to incomplete emptying, the bladder fills right back up and the process repeats. Is this accurate?
@jackfromthe60s3 ай бұрын

I empathise as I have a similar problem. Not getting proper sleep is awful and can lead to other problems, particularly depression and higher blood pressure. I'm sure you've tried diets, I've found a good vegetable soup particularly helpful. I used to fast regularly, want to get back to that to see if it helps.
@jasonsanders80913 ай бұрын
This constipation connection could be due to the body becoming more toxic from the excretion process not working so well. The urine has to ship out a lot more toxins, and more toxic urine in the bladder could be leading to stronger and more frequent urges.
@nickbarton31913 ай бұрын
@@jasonsanders8091 That's for sure a problem, need to be regular. As I've mentioned, I'll try fasting again. For me, it's more about the pressure. If I don't go before bed, I know I'm in for a difficult night. Despite the advice here, if I wake after 4am, I'll drink a coffee to go to the loo and usually I can get a few hours of beautiful sleep afterwards and wake up ready for the day. The caffeine doesn't bother me, not yet at least. Definitely need to exercise, but I'm still working part-time and find it hard to summon the mood. A good night's sleep is most critical for good health.

Thank you, Dr. Malik. Lots of great info in this episode. I'm currently taking pumpkin seed oil for my condition, which seems to help. Also tomatoes from my garden are abundant now, so I eat them daily. A recent video on another channel claims that eating cooked tomatoes, rather than raw tomatoes, provides more benefit of lycopene, but I'm not sure about this claim. It would be interesting to study, as well, if cooking tomatoes before eating them creates less irritability in the prostate. Also, one last note: I have observed that my BPH symptoms are often decreased after ejaculation. There seems to be some sort of relaxation of the prostate tissue going on, which, in turn, increases urine flow for awhile. Thanks, again. All the best 💙

I had bph. Prostate had enlarged to a size that squeezed off my pee tube and caused an extreme amount of urine retention. Doctor put me immediately on a self catheter therapy to prevent backflow to the kidneys, and 10 months later I had HoLep to restore normal function. It was nothing short of a blessing. HoLep is by far the best surgical option, but may be hard to find a urologist who is trained for the procedure.

Can you describe what that procedure is please? I have never taken medicine most all my life and now without it I can’t pee. 😢 If I could have an operation that fixed me to the point of not being a slave to medicine I would be so happy. Terry
@Peace2U-ec6esАй бұрын
@@ForestToFarm There are more videos available if you search "Holmium Laser treatment for Bph." Watch them. I had my procedure 6 months ago and couldn't be happier. If all goes well, full urinary function is restored. You will be off the medication and catheters and you'll once again be able to write your name on a wall without a pen, pencil, or a can of spray paint- and your soldier will still be able to stand at attention. 😉 The only thing you will need to adjust to is "retrograde ejaculation." It's like dry spitting and takes some getting used to, but it's a good trade. If I had to make a surgery choice between HoLep, Rezume, Greenlight, or Artery Oblation, I would go with HoLep first- followed by Greenlight, and ReZume. Never the Artery Oblation. Good luck and Good health.

I took Flomax for years and finally gave up and did the TURP. This was when I was 60. The TURP took a long time for me to recover but now I am better urologically, than since I was in my 20’s. The one negative of Flomax, which my urologist did not tell me, or maybe did not know, is it gives you floppy iris syndrome. So if/when I get cataract surgery, it’s going to be something I need to alert my Opthamologist to.

@@jasonstlouis9871 For about 6 months, I was still experiencing some levels of incontinence and urges to urinate. However, I did not experience any lingering pain after the surgery, only the urge to urinate. And only after one year did I realize I could control the urge to urinate as much as I desired just as I could when I was in my 20's. I did wait too long to do this so my enlargement was on the larger end of the spectrum. In retrospect, I should have done this sooner, a lot sooner.

Hey Doc ! 😊 At 62 I’m 6’-0” and weigh 185 lbs with still a 32” waist. Work out everyday and no prostrate problems that I know of. Constantly work at a 6 pack with squats (100) and leg lift exercises everyday. I’m never quite satisfied so I just say I’m blessed and I’m a work in progress. I get thirsty at night and consume around 20 oz. of water or more at night so I’m peeing once at night. 2 beer limit per day or less and one cup of Joe a day. Thank You 🙏🏼

Sorry if I missed anything, but I watched the video 2X speed. I don’t think you mentioned about Zinc. I read that a healthy Prostate has a lot of Zinc. A swollen Prostate has low Zinc. So maybe deficiency Zinc is the problem. Also you said we shouldn’t eat too much meat and eat more vegetables. I think that’s wrong. Junk foods and plants are probably the problem. Eating more meat and organs balances Zinc and Copper. And a lot more nutrients and vitamins. Then we become healthier.

Hey, Doctor, I was diagnosed recently with a 'firm prostate' after the infamous rectal exam. After which all they want to do is push more tubes and needles up my butt, ultrasounds, x-rays, MRIs, all because they are hyper paranoid that 'It MaY bE cANcEr' EEHH. Could it also be about the insurance money? I have NO familial history of BPH or Prostate cancer. I am 68 years old, and I truly resent health care providers lurch to inject my body with scopes and needles everywhere. I truly need a Doctor like you.

I have had a problem with needing to pee several times at night since my mid twenties. I discovered vitamin E strengthened the bladder & corrected this. When I took vitamin E most nights I'd not need to pee at all. When I stopped taking it after a few days the need would re-occur. When resuming vit E intake after a few days the condition would drastically improve. Now that I'm 70 I experience some of the other symptoms but the Vit E still helps at night & some nights I may go once or twice or not at all til early next morning. It's definitely worth a try.
