People have called me high maintenance just because I wear dresses and skirts, makeup and perfume. It’s so ridiculous. Just because a woman puts in effort to look nice doesn’t mean she’s “high maintenance.” More like they don’t have the self-confidence to approach any woman unless she’s in a T-shirt and scruffy jeans.

The day I kicked him to the kerb, thanks to my daughter reminding me that I was worth more than what I was enduring, I was carrying that man financially and helping him and his family through some very tough times (self-inflicted). I agreed it was time to strengthen my faith in myself again. And I hadn't realised how much of myself was lost in that relationship until I had to try to rebuild my life without serving him and his family. So, how am I the narcissist? I'm still the kind, caring person I always was. So if that makes me high maintenance, so be it. Men can't have it both ways. They can't have a feminine presence by their side, and not expect what goes along with that. There's no such thing as an ugly woman--only a broke and/or lazy one. As a man, I do enjoy Anna's content. So I'd like to chime in. When it comes to a man saying that someone is a "high maintenance" women, I think two things; either he isn't on her level, or the woman is needlessly over complicated. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a woman who wants to take care of herself, look good and live a great life. Now of course there woman who are over the top hard to deal with and over do it. Too much makeup is one thing. That's not maintenance, that's a clown. But classy gals who takes good care of themselves, enhance their natural beauty, dress nice, and appropriately, carry themselves with confidence and have a good character, are what a real man of value want. Getting facials and having your nails done regularly, keeping a healthy body and diet, putting on well styled cloths appropriate for the occasion, going to a hair salon and other such things is not high maintenance. High maintenance is this but unreasonably.

GREAT TOPIC! Once upon a time just about everyone dressed to the same standard: women in dresses, men in suits or jackets. Yes, there are degrees of dress, some more expensive and detailed than others, but only since the advent of jeans and T-shirts has the mostly derogatory term 'high maintenance' been aimed at those who still care about how they look. Funny though, it's often that well-groomed and thoughtfully dressed woman who gets the wolf whistles and appreciative glances. As long as the men don't have to pay for it, they like it. But the complaints seem to come from men who feel threatened in some way. I agree that it's MEN"S insecurities that cause the name-calling. Stick to your well-dressed ways ladies and walk away from those that would try to pull you down to their level.

People seem to forget that viewing someone as "overdressed" is purely subjective, and that there are many different styles for many different lifestyles. Also, not trying to be rude, but I noticed that the people saying that were people that took little effort in self-care (not just when it came to clothing, but with other things as well) and just didn't care. And that's okay. They just shouldn't put their preferences on other people. We don't put our preferences on them 🤷♀️

I'm always called high maintenance by both men & women who doesn't know me.I'm a doctor, worked really hard to reach top of my profession.I like to look good & doll up myself.When someone says I'm high maintenance, I really laugh out loud

A man calling you high maintenance or any form of negative description is a form of negging.

Maybe it’s also misogyny

Also there are people who are emotionally high maintenance. So if dear Anna could also shed some light on it I would love to listen her opinion.

Without a doubt many men call women "high maintenance" when the lady is out of their league. BUT... many ladies can also have ridiculous expectations. In high end divorce cases, lawyers used to call these ladies "shoppers". The item you mention at the end is a good one.... if you are a fair human and are reasonable, you shouldn't worry. However, most people who are high maintenance have a poor perception about fairness and reasonableness. Lastly, men can also be "high maintenance" with out of touch demands for attention...no matter how high up on the food chain they are.

Men have much more ridiculous expectations, men not only expect women to pay 50/50, split the bills, but also have to be submissive, obey, and do all the household labor, childcare,.. while still looking sexy and pretty at the same time. Most women don't expect millionaires.

Thanks for this video! I have been called this repeatedly which was ridiculous bcs I owned my own business, home etc. These guys brought nothing to the table concerning my maintenance but constantly used it as a put down. Frankly, they were highly educated but never had much success. Me thinks they were just jealous!

Some men assume that a woman looking like a model is automatically “high maintenance” without knowing her personally. One word? Dumb!

Very valid points. I think we have to reframe the term as it isn’t high maintenance to have high standards. 😊
@AnnaBeyOfficial4 ай бұрын
No it's not necessarily the same. Although "high maintenance labelled women" often do have standards which is absolutely fine.

I think it is a comment related more to a personality than looking after yourself. It is rather about being self-centered than being self-confident.

In 21st century high maintenance should be a compliment ! And embarrassing for a man to openly admit by saying you are high maintenance as that man is broke inside or outside

I’ve been labelled as high maintenance or gold digger type of girl since I was a young girl. Also people think that I am a wealthy woman. Amen 🙏🏽 I came from a developing country in the village and my family never taught us to be consumed by material things as it didn’t sit well with our beliefs and our lives were purely based on what the religion taught us to be. Subconsciously I still carry that value in my life even though I appear to look glamorous. I was taught to be humble and good with money. I happen to be different from the majority of my people. I love to look good as makes me feel good. I love to take care of myself as I feel empowered to be able to defeat my own struggles because of the bullying and abuse ever since I was young because I was different. What people do not know is that I keep my appearance without having to spend a fortune on it. From head to toe I do everything myself lol….my hair (cut and colour) nails, makeup, lashes etc….I don’t like spending my hard earned money unnecessarily. I spend it on real gold instead! It’s an investment and makes me look good too…I hardly bought anything new. The Op shop is my favourite shop….you can’t judge people from their appearance or a book by its cover!

When I was sixteen I was very much in love with a guy, but he broke my heart when, behind my shoulders he told others that he liked me a lot but that a girl like me was “unattainable”. And this guy even came from a very rich family. Years later in the final yearbook he wrote to the guy I was dating, saying how he admired him and that he wished he knew how this other guy had acted around me to get me(even though we just kissed). To this day I don’t know what he meant with me being unreachable, but all this made him my biggest regret for years. I was sixteen, dressed normally, no expensive clothes, I was nice to everyone..maybe he was just an insecure sixteen year old, but it still hurts me when I think about that situation because I was completely smitten with him.

Someone could be considered "high maintenance" simply for having good taste. (Most likely she'd be called a "snob," whether or not it's justifiable.)

This guy called me high maintenance because I try to eat healthy so I pretended to mishear him “omg why are you calling me low maintenance.. ??do I look low maintenance ??!” with a fake hurt look on my face.. And when he corrected himself I said “oh, ok good! I thought you were insulting me saying I am low maintenance “ shut him right up and I never went out with him again.

I think if the woman is paying for her own clothes, hair, jewelry and lifestyle etc its probably quite attractive. It becomes 'high maintenance' when the man is expected to fund the woman's lifestyle, especially if its a woman who always wants stuff and is never content or is ungrateful.

There's a difference between materialistic and high maintenance, i can expect a rich guy bcz iam rich, i can expect a handsome man bcz i am beautiful. It's not like i want the opposite of it, it's reasonable. I prefer someone who equal to me, not too high or low.

This is very "funny" cause when you are not the so called high maintenance they leave you cause they think the other woman is better. They think you cannot have a period when you maybe leave yourself (it can have a lot of reasons), but with help and patience you can bloom and find yourself again. So I don't care if they had bad experience and they call me names, cause don't!!! I don't call them names... or should I start the sentence: All the men are like... :D I will not but now I feel like it already... so do I have to project it on someone? NO.

I don’t think any rich guy with good education will leave a woman just because she is not spending big money for clothes. It’s ridiculous
@EnikőMiskolczi4 ай бұрын
@@ninas5988 I didn't say for clothes. For eg you have a bad period in your life and you let yourself go a bit, I meant that... And then when you actually don't care a little bit, they leave you for a "better" woman.

Being HV Woman is often linked to being of High maintenance which is not the same. Let's take for example the Kardashians. They are high maintenance but not of HV and I'm sorry for the honesty but it's true. I am a Personal Trainer, a Sports Massage therapist and an interpreter who is very proud of how far I've come since I was on my 40's😅 I am a HV because I do think highly of myself, I respect myself enough to give me all the best things I deserve. I study Metaphysics, philosophy and Japanese language because it just makes me feel better, intelligent and more cultured. Nothing wrong with upgrading ladies, what's wrong is to thinking that life only goes one direction and that investing in one self is selfish. UPGRADE, ELEVATE and BE HUMBLE❤

I was always looked at as high maintenance when I had bleach blonde hair, now I'm a softer type of blonde and people don't think this anymore, even though everything else is exactly the same. The hair colour judgement is real
