Unprofessional is the word. Not predatory. White dude tried to tell me the other day “if you don’t think touching hair is inherently sexual, then you haven’t dated black women.” As a black dude that goes to several locticians, I was flabbergasted by the white saviorism. Somebody else tried to tell me literal hygienic grooming leads to sexual grooming, I guess because it’s the same word lmao. People wanna virtue signal so bad.

Even if he has no ill intention with the children he doesn’t know what the children are thinking. If one of those little girls have a crush on him, he just fed into her fantasies of being one step closer to him. And one day she could tell him that she likes him and then he says oh no, that’s inappropriate. He cannot control what these little girls may say like she might get upset and say he SA her. Because she might be mad or she might be embarrassed that he rejected her so that’s why he needs to keep a professional guard up with his students. Watch the movie Crush or Poison Ivy. I had a friend who was obsessed with our PE teacher in the eighth grade and he was fine but he was so strict he had to be strict because all the girls wanted him they all thought he was fine and we’re all 13-14 years old. My friend wanted to re-twist his dreads for him the last day before Christmas break and he quickly said no and all the boys were laughing at her. She was so embarrassed, he stopped the other boys from making fun of her though. She was still mortified, And if it wasn’t for us(her friends) talking to her and assuring her like it’s no big deal. She probably would have taken it to another level because she is crazy. She got like 6 kids now with 4 baby daddies. And she tries to ruin their lives every chance she gets. I haven’t talked to her in 10 years because she crazy 💯

I didn't even think about it from that side. You're completely right. Adults have to set boundaries to protect themselves AND the kids from taking things too far even if the other side thought it was innocent. People always assume that the ADULT is in the wrong but sometimes adults are oblivious to crushes or bad intent and end up in dangerous situations.

Honestly.. acts of services involving a minor to an adult are the start of many predatory cases and that’s probably why so many alarms were raised, boundaries are so important and what he was doing esp with having their phone numbers crosses a thin line which is probably why the opposing side don’t see much fault in this bc it can come of as interactive or a bonding moment but tbh the whole thing is very unprofessional.

Oh, hell no! If there’s some important reason they need to speak to my child on the phone when not at school, they can speak to my husband or I. Predators love to speak to kids away from parents to ask invasive questions about their love life, whether they have a boyfriend or not, so they can test their boundaries. They do use intimate acts service to make them comfortable with touching them and more likely to agree to more comfortable with being touched. They will ask for massages. If you are a parent you need to educate yourself on how child predators operate.

As a teacher, that is a big no-no. Especially for high school students. They are so much more prone to being groomed. So many boundaries are being crossed by that teacher and something is very wrong for him to think his students are his friends. 16 year olds and a 27 year old have nothing in common. You can have love for your students, but he needs to get friends his own age. Maybe he wasn’t taught boundaries, but he gonna learn now I guess

I think when it comes to men, ppl automatically have a certain type of way of thinking when it comes to them and kids, which I really don’t think it’s fair to men at all (and this coming from someone who was groomed and SA’d) but I noticed in school when we would be close with our women teachers it was “adorable and nice to see the children love you” but in some cases, when we would LOVEEE our men teachers and we wanted to stay in the class or skip lunch to be around him (the same thing we did with women teachers) then it was seen as “weird” and then “something not right there” which I find really bizarre because if that’s the case then we shouldn’t have been allowed around the women teachers that way either. Treat the teachers the same way. If they want a professional environment

This always reminds me of when I was growing up, we would have women in the neighborhood or a moms friend for example, call you handsome. Some even saying things like “that’s my lil boyfriend” or something. Weird but seen as acceptable. Meanwhile as a man, you better not even stand to close to a child, lest someone insinuate something about you. I had a child recently smile and wave at me at the supermarket in line. I had wonderful teachers who clearly expressed that they loved and cared for their students, but they never called us their best friends / “besties”. While I don’t assume that this teacher had unseemly motives, I do believe propriety and professionalism require greater attention to healthy boundaries nowadays, because we do live in a world where there are so many over-the-line, inappropriate, and illegal things going on at schools. Teachers can be great role models, supporters, and advocates, and they can have an affectionate bond with students, but students shouldn’t be viewing them as friends or peers until they become adults themselves.

I hate to admit it, but a great number of women are easily bamboozled, and let down their guard, just because someone seems nice.. These kids need protective fathers like you desperately, because a lot of women have no clue on how to protect their kids. Many of them were never protected themselves. They allow strangers to move into their homes. where their children are no longer safe. I can appreciate him putting effort in connecting with the kids and working with them, but there must ALWAYS be boundaries primarily for the kids safety, but also for your own, because very easily it can spiral into a what that dumb dude is going through right now.

11:41 my thoughts exactly. I can see straight through this man he’s trying to look like a hero but in truth he’s messy and seeking content. Its well known that schools provide safe ways for students to contact their students which is closely monitored, yet he makes it seem as if the children are in his DMs texting him as if they have his number. He is not helping at all, just stirring the pot a bigger mess then it is.

i mean i think simply he has trained and learned how to be a teacher and defo knows what boundaries there are. i think the issue as well is that a lot of the things he’s letting them to do him seem random, if a kid is crying or looks visibly upset and you talk with them and they hug you that’s a different situation but allowing students to get close to you randomly is weird. finally last point😭 the stuff he’s letting them do is on the line between being wrong and being controversial which is literally why it’s being talked about, doing hair and doing nails could be seen as caring in some contexts but strange in others, if he’s recording and allowing several students to do it also works in his favour as he can argue the opposite like he has. not accusing him at all but i think he’s more in the wrong than right tbh

When I used to be an after school counselor we weren't even supposed to give the kids hugs even if the child approached you first. Of course you don't want to be cold to the children because they do look up to you but once they hit puberty the boundaries are especially important. Oh yeah as I'm watching it's also not appropriate to film let alone post the children.

This is the biggest issue I have. the personal space there is none throughout this whole video. I don’t stand this close to strangers in the supermarket. I understand that this is your teacher and they see him a lot throughout the year, but they don’t need to be standing in close proximity to him like that. Not sexualizing anything but boundaries or boundaries he should not be close enough to the girls where he can brush up against their bodies.

At most, I think it’s weird. I don’t think there is any sexualization or grooming going on. BUT…as someone from a family of educators, a lot of them did say this is inappropriate and wouldn’t fly at their schools. Not because this is sexual in nature, but no sensible adult should be asking children to do such a thing due to a lack of parental permission, child labor, and because this has no right/justification taking place in a classroom. I think he said he didn’t have time to take his hair down before his appointment, but…that is his problem and responsibility. Pay the take out fee or see if you could leave work a little earlier. Plus, what if the school board members are doing evaluations: they walk in expecting him to be teaching ELA and he has students taking his hair down/doing his nails💀💀. Whole school is going down

There is a daycare worker, a female one, who was texting a ten year old and taking him from the daycare when she was supposed to be watching him. This did not make the rounds on social media. I saw a video of a woman dancing on an infant, did not go beyond a couple chuckles. There was an assistant principal who was charged and fired for having a “relationship” with a student, didn’t make it past local news. That teacher is so weird. Children do not have a concrete understanding of boundaries and it's imperative for people with a duty of care to vulnerable people to take safeguarding seriously. Regardless of how innocent his actions may seem and his intentions may be, a student doing a teacher's hair in class, on camera is inappropriate (unless you are filming a tutorial for a cosmetology school). You cannot give grace or benefit of the doubt when it comes to inappropriate behaviour between teachers and students. At best it's reckless and undermines his authority, at worst it's a grooming tactic. Either way we shouldn't take that risk of saying it's okay just because nobody involved was in harm's way, teachers not only teach, they act as role models, so to model inappropriate behaviour and actively try to normalise it to a group of impressionable people is worrisome and opens doors for someone to be taken advantage of. Imagine this: one of his students who he's not so close to is quiet and shy and doesn't help with his hair, she watches on and thinks it's okay, normal, encouraged in fact. Fast forward to college, her professor is a creepy predator but she doesn't recognise that he's a weirdo until it's far too late. Young people know no better and it's the job of the adults around them to protect them by acting with caution and foresight. It's not his job to be besties with children, he can be close with them without having to literally be close with them.

While I get people’s concerns….In my personal opinion I feel like it’s only a big deal if you make it a big deal. Casting such harsh judgment on someone and throwing around the P word is a lot. He explained it in the video: It was near the end of the day, they did all their school work, and they had a bit of free time. He asked if they wanted to take his hair out and they agreed. Now if you personally feel uncomfortable with that, that’s fine, but it’s kinda crazy to just assume the worst of everyone like that. I had some teachers that allowed their students to connect with them and it made learning so much fun. The classroom felt like a community and made being there more enjoyable. I retained way more of the stuff I learned with those kinds teachers than others, tbh. Like I said, I get that it’s kinda sus depending on how you look at it. Depending. Which is why all angles need to be considered and the people in the situation: teacher, admins, and parents, need to do their due diligence and take situations like this case by case. Idk, comparing a teacher getting his hair taken out in class to a teacher s*xgting their students and meeting up with them outside of school is just a little far 🤷‍♀️
