I think if the relationship had a big potential but someone was not ready or willing to step up, or still emotionally immature in some way then there are big chances it can still work out after they figure things out for themselves. I can easily smell when someone wants to come back just because they're lonely but if I had a significant connection with someone I would give them another chance. People do change and maybe they had to go through something first in order to stop being blind and finally see our value. That's nothing bad.. we all make mistakes and need lessons, just some learn sooner some later..

If they had some fears, taking time to themselves can help them start looking at those fears and overcome them. Being alone is often necessary to be able to do that and step up to the plate.
