I was the same way for years: afraid to have the ‘wrong’ food because it would throw me off. After taking time to understand my overall nutrition, I got to the point of being able to have the birthday cake my fiancé made for me yesterday and actually enjoy it without feeling like “now I need to go run 18 miles to burn it off”. All about balance and the long game. Thanks guys!

I have been listening to this podcast for several years now when I was at my lowest point in my life. I was 175 pounds and 30% body fat. I would replay some episodes over and over. I trusted what you guys were saying about strength/resistance training and to focus on protein protein protein despite what everyone tried to tell me and what we have been told over the years by the fitness industry. It was because of this podcast and later purchasing several maps programs that I am down to 145 pounds and feel the best I’ve ever felt in my life! There were so many times during the process that I wanted to quit because I felt like I was putting in all this work with minimal results (I thought) but hearing you guys talk about how it’s a process to build muscle and it takes time was honestly the only thing I kept repeating in my head when I wanted to quit. Can’t thank you guys enough for changing my life!!!

Been a hard gainer my whole life. Last year, at 38, I found mind pump. My favorite video ever is your 20 minutes per day video. I applied those principles, dialed my intensity way back, practiced core lifts with focus on technique, and I’ve put on 15 pounds of muscle in a year. I feel great and I’m the strongest I’ve ever been, doing way less work, and beating up my body so much less. I now bench 1.25x body weight, squat 1.5, and deadlift 2.0. Not incredible numbers, I know, but plenty to feel good and do everything I want to do in life. Thank you mind pump!

Very good take. I've had my trainer for 2yrs. It bothered me that he didn't supply a meal plan. I later understood that nutrition is something that I had to fix myself. The wrkouts were the least of my problems. I totally get it now!!

I don’t remember how I stumbled across this channel but I’m so glad I did. I had helped and educated me so much! I’m currently just coming over a 4 week building phase. This week I’m eating back at maintenance and then back to building next week. Eating wise, I just make sure I’m conscious of my choices, I tend to eat the same thing nearly everyday, just makes tracking a lot easier. I also make sure that I allow myself the foods I want to eat so as to not binge on them.

Such a good encouragement at the right time. I always stick to the meal plan and it is overwhelming when you fall off track. I love the way you convey the message to have a good relationship with food and see it in cultural perspectives. That reminds me to have a better enjoyment with food and not too obsessed with it when it does not go as planned.

What you described was exactly how my first coaching experience went .. I told him everything I did and what I liked it I eat etc and how I liked to workout and he changed everything.. just have a meal plan of foods I didn't even say I enjoyed. I said I liked protein bars once in a while he said you can't eat anything processed but had my drinking 200 calorie intra workout drinks etc.. This was for lifestyle coaching also just to bulk and grow some muscle I had very little flexibility. I noticed some good results on the plan but ultimately I started to hate food and not enjoy a big part of my life which was eating. He didn't even give me the macros so I could substitute anything.. and kept saying later it would get more flexible but I'm not a guinea pig just to eat the same thing every day it has to work for me too. Anyway I stopped the plan after a few weeks.. if it was macro based I probably wouldn't have quit but he wouldn't do it that way. Also as someone with a history of ED I found a lot of the same old thoughts creeped in of having to control every variable and feeling like I've cheated if it wasn't perfect

I think for most people a hybrid approach helps. As a mum having a list of meals and snacks for the week helps not to over purchase, and saves some time cooking too. My approach is to prepare 3 proteins, 3 veg and 3 carbs and then I can mix and match through the week to have a variety of meals. Having a family it is not realistic to have the same meals and snacks every day for a week. Making some time to prepare ingredients on the weekend which can just be assembled at dinner time does save me time.

Tracking was fun at 1st - paper pen and then spreadsheet from scratch was novel - but it got too much. That said - it helped build the knowledge base I needed to open my eyes to what I was eating. I kept the spreadsheet / data base updated so I have a very comprehensive list of what I ate - and there is a lot of variety. It certainly was not chicken breast and rice, far from it. Looking at the data base - I wonder why I not at 300+ lbs and needing a crane to get out of bed or be hoisted in a bath tub that would resemble a swimming pool. lol It got really bad when taking the kitchen scale to the restaurant, was thought of as a good idea.... do not do it. Thankfully that was many years ago - and tracking today is so much simpler and easier and it seems more and more people are doing it - hopefully with a positive out come.
