I worked at a major brokerage firm for years and I can tell you Dave isn't lying. I saw doctors and lawyers who were broke making tons in income and farmers who were very well off making less than half as much.

@@bluejedi723 I grew up blue collar in southern Mississippi then went to the University of Oxford for graduate school so I've seen lots of different types of smart. In my opinion your morals and conviction are the most important followed by your reliability/consistency, then your smarts is what sets you apart. As Dave puts it, stop being stupid (ego, undisciplined, rationalizing, etc). Then math actually starts to matter after that.

Thanks to discovering Dave Ramsey in 2020 I paid off $16000 of debt in two years. Now I have an emergency fund. Even though I got fired from my job a couple weeks ago I’m not so stressed out. When I got fired they gave me my last paycheck plus my unused vacation. Im just slowly making that money last. Plus I’m still looking for a new job and.

Got to totally agree with Dave on this. The problem for most people in debt these days is not how much they make, but their financial behavior regardless of how much they make. Most people will never be able to not out-spend their ability to make money.

A lot of people don't like the, shall we say, "not-so-sexy" approach to being debt-free that Dave's promulgated for YEARS, but I'm here to tell you; I am doing just that and in three months will be without any debt for the first time in over a decade. Ramsey's not joking when he says "rice and beans" and "a car you can afford." I'd call it a cheat code, but this hack is actually pretty cut and dry. It's been rewarding to work hard, save harder, and blow my debt out of the water. This stuff works.

Some group of economists have projected that both the U.S and parts of Europe could slip into a recession for a portion of 2023. A global recession, define as a contraction in annual global per capita income, is more rare because china and emerging markets often grow faster than more developed economies. Essentially the world economy is considered to be in recession if economic growth falls behind population growth.

China is not growing, it's almost in freefall, homelessness is up, unemployment is up, they have a deflation crisis going on, not even speaking about the ghost cities and several other major troubles. The world economy is already in recession, what is coming is closer to depression of 1930's

I agree about changing your identity. I found my identity flipped in a bad way when I finished school. I made more money than I ever have and because of that I felt rich. In reality, I was far from rich. Recently I have flipped the script on that identity and realized the way I was living financially and in my career, was not going to lead me to the life I want to live. I own a 90's sports car which I kept because it was my first car. It was also my therapy to work on, and although I don't owe any money on it, it is costing me money...money that can be put toward helping me get to the life I want to live.

Dave, my husband and I were married almost 60 years ago, and he made very little money, but we had absolutely nothing. And we sort of lived that way for the next 20 years . Except, we had some things, eventually. If we didn’t have the money , we did not buy it. I had friends who mentioned “ that neighbor is so rich; they have a pool, a boat, they have that new car blah blah blah. Yah right, you know what? they were broke.! I know the saying, I have champagne taste on a beer budget. Fortunately, now we shave a beer taste on a champagne budget. My son has had a dental practice for about 20 years. The best advice he ever got in dental school was from his financial advisor who spoke in their school and told the students, you need to live now like a student so that when you graduate you can live like a doctor.. the best advice I have ever heard, and I just wish more people would follow that!

The thing is - nobody wants to be broke. My observation is that most broke people lack a basic education in personal finance and/or they aren't able to adopt delayed gratification. Another factor is that many people believe they are incapable of winning financially, so they never take action to improve their financial position. They accept financial defeat. However, "winning financially" doesn't look like the media's portrayal of the American Dream. With the proper mindset, plus a basic education in personal finance, and delayed gratification, most people are capable of obtaining some measure of financial security and a comfortable life. But many more will unfortunately opt for financial defeat.

If you can sustain yourself on 20 hours per week, why not work 60 hours per week for like 3 years, get a home, get the ball rolling on retirement savings, then once you have a large enough buffer, cut back again? You'll have assets working for you and end your life way better off... Of course, that is a huge shift and does require you to plan your meals and shopping in advance, and treat life like a job for a while. 1 day off per week... I too was "cheap AF" and managed to get my foot through the door on a 3700sqft place 60km from Vancouver... after like 8-10 years from when I seriously started saving. YMMV, but obviously I'm going to retire a lot better off thanks to that home. With all the rent craziness, the mortgage payments are now comfortably below what I would be paying to someone else.

I really like as partbof your message that yeah... having debt makes you broke. However i do lightly disagree with "its not a math problem". Cause it most certainly unequivocally is a math problem. I mean personal finance & taxation might be the reason we have math in the first place. It's practically the original math problem. Math should inform behavior. Not control it. You say this too, but you need to balance factors. I do understand that 80% of behavior comments are really about pointing out that unless you change behavior, you can do all the math in the world. You won't improve. For myself change is incredibly easy. But it needs to be bscked up by... math. So... to me. I would flip that. Its 80% mathvor head knowledge & 20% behavior. But again. That's for people like me.

The math isn't a problem and can be figured out with basic 7-th (or less) grade skills. The problem for most is modifying financial behavior based on the math that's the real problem for people in debt. The math can show you the route, but not everyone has the inner strength and focus to stay on the track.

I may not follow 100% of Ramsey and his team (credit cards when I travel and often abroad, etc.) but 90 something percent...overall it makes me laugh the way people complain if the Papa interupts a caller or another host says something they think is off or not polite. Snowflakes. Overall, this program and team are beyond amazing and spit ball what they know and believe with 100% good intentions.

i do disagree with ramsey on some things but I think 90% of what he says is right- advanced education does not equal smart. People go into debt for "nice things" because "I deserve it" without giving a shit about how much is this going to cost me. they get a PHD because they think it will equal more money without realizing they *can* earn a good amount of money, if not more, without a PHD *if* they work hard to find the job they want. They get a 2nd, 3rd of 4th masters degree *because I can't find a job* when it turns out they are just looking in the wrong places for work. People go into great amount of college debt thinking it's the fast way to money, and not realizing it could be done cheaper. He tells the harsh truth, something snowflakes need to hear
