In today's video, I will be explaining why I believe the Monster Hunter franchise has the absolute best creature designs in all of the gaming industry. From the more silly and light hearted monsters such as Kulu-Ya-Ku, to the more edgy and brutish monsters like Nergigante, the series boasts an incredibly diverse cast of memorable beasts. As someone who has been obsessed with drawing monster and dragons and dinosaurs my entire life, this series is basically tailor made for me.

I feel like you should have first explained Zinogre's symbiosis with the thunderbugs, because i'd imagine it's hard for someone who doesn't know MH to see the "believable" and "grounded in reality" part of Zinogre if they think it's just generating electricity out of nowhere based only on the footage shown

Monster Hunter design is interesting because, realistically, not a single large monster would ever exist (at least in the way they are with all the excessive amounts of spikes, armor and scales) and yet, for the most part, the world feels immersive and 'realistic'. The explanations for a lot of monsters may not make sense by real world logic but I think the explanation is given at all with an attempt to base everything in biology makes it work.

my only eerrghhh moment is when it come to the deviljho biology, like i know the dev’s trying really hard to make the world believable but when you read deviljho ecology they just throw everything out of the window lmao, a creature hungry enough to drive anything near it to extinction shouldn’t be even able to exist in the first place, let alone a whole population of it, even if they are few

And animation quality too. They have this kind of weight and fluidity in movements, how weapon moves chain to each other, how monster hit you with momentum and power,... that on another level. I played Wild Heart and Souls games, souls games have too responsive movement and weapon moves don't really gel with each other, Wild Heart come close to MH with way faster pacing, but it has way too many animation skips and you don't really feel it when hitting the monster, some monster moves are janky too.

100% true Monster Hunter has _the_ best boss/creature design in the ENTIRE gaming industry 🔥 Tetranadon and Shara Ishvalda are the 2 best designs imo. Tetranadon is the most beautifully subtle design showing off the skills of the MH developers in how they can combine _multiple_ real-life animals with mythological concepts and portray both traits in a naturalistic believable way through a single creature *_while_* giving it its own flare and personality to make it stand out on its owns as an incredibly unique, yet not over the top, creature Shara Ishvalda is on the other side of the spectrum showing the teams amazing abilities to study understand and then adapt mythological & religious imagery and concepts into a giant gorgeous bombastic design of a creature with very little real-life creature inspiration.... and STILL create an amazing yet somehow believable creature that not only very clearly embodies the concepts of the religion but also who's moveset and abilities still somehow make visual & logical sense despite being very purposely extravagant (Shara Ishvalda takes inspiration from Hinduism and Buddhism and I'm Hindu so as soon as I saw him I recognized almost everything about him and yet was obviously still floored by his amazing and unique design)

I feel like a lot of people who wanna sell Monster Hunter designs to someone always end up showing Zinogre as an example one way or another. Sure, It's Iconic, It's cool, and the fight Is great but "believable"? Just thinking for a second how Zinogre would hunt Its prey for a moment and you already see some problems. How Is this Giant, Glowing, Blue & Yellow, PIn-headed, lightning-spewing wolf suppose to properly hunt when It would scares all Its potential prey before It even gets close? Zinogre Is many things but "stealthy" Is not one of them. There really wasn't any thought put into how Zinogre would actually live beyond the flashy spectacle of the hunt.
@ratkingkingofrats1525
@ratkingkingofrats1525 Ай бұрын
Yeah, because none of the other monsters are giant, flashy, or loud..... Nobody is saying these things could exist in real life, they are "believable" within the Monster Hunter universe. Zinogre for example has a symbiotic relationship with the thunderbugs, which is where the lightning comes from.
@Animortar
@Animortar Ай бұрын
@@ratkingkingofrats1525 Don't get me wrong, I think the thunderbugs are neat. But Monster Hunter always treated their monsters (apart from Elder Dragons) with a level of grounded reasoning. Yian Kut-Ku's large ears and shovel beak to hear and dig up insects, Espinas's poisonous thorns due to eating poisonous animals, and Khezu being pale, blind and fat due living in cold, dark caves. There doesn't seem to be reasoning why Zinogre needs the thunderbugs in fact they could hinder it from catching prey.
@ratkingkingofrats1525
@ratkingkingofrats1525 Ай бұрын
@@Animortar I dont think they ever imply that Zinogre prefers a stealth approach, though? We rarely see monsters trying to be sneaky, most of the time its just big monsters pummeling each other. If its after a small monster, like an aptonoth, that thing has 0 chance of escaping anyway so no need for stealth there either.
@Animortar
@Animortar Ай бұрын
@@ratkingkingofrats1525 Whether Zinogre takes a stealth approach doesn't really matter. Zinogre's a big, loud and glowing monster, from a distance there's a clear danger even If covered In foliage and even if not particularly fast, Aptonoth would leave the area as soon as they heard, felt or saw something big coming their way and Zinogre Is not built for running since he's bulky and top heavy. Granted Zinogre could still catch up and grab one but at that point you would have achieved a far better result If you were being sneaky or you could run fast. Nargacuga and Tigrex are good examples of good predators. Nargacuga Is black for Camouflage and Tigrex has large arms and is capable of running down and pinning prey.
