As the 2024 Presidential election heats up, a recent New York Times poll revealed that a majority of US voters are dissatisfied with the political and economic system in the country or want it torn down completely. As dissatisfaction mounts, Biden faces dwindling support in crucial swing states, largely due to his unconditional backing of Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Walter Smolarek, Editor of Liberation News, joins Rania and Eugene to delve into the root causes of this discontent and the confines of the two-party system, which leaves voters to choose between two genocidaires who neglect their constituents interests.

Impossible to have a People's Revolution without labor unions and single-payer healthcare. Americans don't strike or boycott because they have no solidarity or collective power, and they could lose their employer-sponsored government-subsidized health insurance. Employer-sponsored government-subsidized health insurance was designed with this in mind: it's one of the most effective ways to atomize and silence the working class.

Exactly! Age these days do not mean "more experience" any longer as it once used to. The world has changed and has been moving ahead faster than ever before - technologically and socially. We need a younger blood generation in politics who knows and understands the people, the country and the technological age we live in - not 80 and 90 year old geriatrics who don't know the meaning of "meta data" or even how to program a VCR (not that these exists any longer today) and have a memory only of the world that was 30 - 40 years ago and no vision of what the nation can strive for to reach in 30 to 40 years into the future. If we are to only compare some REAL leaders of the past to the very poor offerings we have today, we can easily see the real difference between them. Remember when a REAL American leader gave his people a VISION, a glimpse of a future that everyone else said was impossible at the time? At Rice University, this leader told his nation that, "we go to the moon not because it is easy but because it is hard .... we shall land a man on the moon and bring him back safely to the earth before the end of the decade ...." That leader INSPIRED not only his entire nation to take up the challenge but the rest of the world in the 1960s. That leader was JFK - who is still remembered today. He didn't reach for the easy low-hanging fruits of popular policies and politics even though he was popular. He created enemies - very powerful ones - but was unafraid. Yes, he paid the ultimate price but he was a true leader. We should use such people as examples and standard by which we judge who may be worthy to lead us. It is unfortunate and scary that at this time, we have none at the bottom of the barrel but wrinkled, dried-up apples that are slowly rotting away.

Democracy in America is oftentimes referred to as an illiberal or false democracy whereas elections can take place but the citizens are cut off from knowledge about the activities of those who exercise real power. It is a good thing that the American people hold the power to change their government; however, the harsh reality is the cycle just repeats itself because money can buy votes. The US Presidential system is flawed compared to the British Parliamentary system. Having two legislative bodies in the US (e.g. House of Representatives and Senate) seems redundant and more likely to block evidence-based public making in favour of partisan policies. The US President is less of leader of his/her party as the Prime Minister is in a parliament. There's also too much money in US elections -- US election finance laws need a massive change.

Agree 100% - the U.S. election system has far too much money being spent involved. It is a race between who can reap in the most donations and spend the most in advertising and marketing themselves than in those who has the best policies to build the nation and best plans forward that would INSPIRE the people - and not more hubris. The U.S. should adopt a compulsory voting system that would do away with the need to have to spend so much in self-promoting ventures. On top of all this, there should be FAR LESS lawyer types selected and elected and more philosophers, thinkers, planners, economists, technocrats and those who have PROVEN THEMSELVES in having a PORTFOLIO of ACTUAL RESULTS than "popularism" - people selected for their "pretty faces" (movie actors, TV personalities, snake-oil salesmen, etc).

@@MicheleLLOYD-bk2mt Always said that in a tug-o'-war or any team event, the team that pulls together and works together, have a greater chance of winning than the team that quarrels and bickers among one another with differences of opinion and differences in aims and pulls in opposite directions to one another. In our democratic, "free-for-all", system, the political team is like those who work against one another just because each political side is regarded as competitors. The ONLY time when both sides worked together almost coherently as one was during the major war years (WW1 and WW2). Imagine if the two parties have behaved "normally" working against each other during those years! Yet, during peace times, they are both at war against one another - and not for the good of the common people and the nation as a whole. This is a form of insanity and it has been allowed to go on for far too long already - not for the betterment of the country nor for the good of the people except for those who enjoy watching a battle royale of words between two antagonistic parties come election time.

Yes you were correct. It was always obvious that Biden was worse. A Prez with dementia should never be allowed to be Prez in the first place

How’s he worse? Everyone blames him for the economy even tho it was the fed in 2020 starting this downward spiral. So what is it

@@RobertNight1 a Prez should never have dementia & no voter should ever let themselves be so manipulated & terrified by the media into actually voting for a nursing home patient. Throw the worst VP ever into the mix & Biden is a lot worse overall

Democracy….. ahhh. Don’t you just LOVE IT ! ? A land where government DOES what the people actually WANT & NEED ! Oh dear…You NEVER had that mate. NEVER will. BECAUSE…You have the WRONG political system. Maybe it was a good idea 300 years ago, but not for today nor tomorrow. It generally attracts the wrong sort of people for a start!. I mean, just look at their schoolyard behaviour where “point scoring” put-downs of other elected members of parliament is considered a “win”! Essentially most of them are “bully salesmen” who try to persuade and bribe you, that ONLY THEIR ideas are great (vote for MEEEE). Sadly, ALL parties do the same - Was designed to be like that !! The notion that ALL the PEOPLE HAVE CLEAR NEEDS is not even considered!!. Another childhood dream is that “Competition” yields the best results! This has some truth, but only in the very short term!. COOPERATION YIELDS THE BEST CONTINUOUS SUSTAINABLE IMPROVEMENTS. JUST PROGRESS LIKE YOU’VE NEVER SEEN BEFORE Establish a national “Register of Visions” summarising the Will of the People. (Health, Housing, Education, Employment, Crime & Safety, Drugs, Immigration, Taxation, Societal Cohesion, Foreign Affairs, Welfare, Trade & Industry, etc etc ). A register Established at census time for each Voter - with real-time Web access for timely updates like Gaza, Ukraine etc etc ad nauseam. And don’t worry, AI will make short work of creating a succinct coherent unambiguous statement of requirements from the millions of Vision submissions! Certainly a BETTER WAY for the Nation. (Unless of course you are already part of the 1% thriving/thieving elite , then yes, you will experience a relative decline in your unwarranted privilege, decadence and legalised theft!). At the moment, China looks remarkably democratic when compared with you lot !
