Back in 2008 I sold off everything and bought a 6 yr old Canon Camera and a 50mm 1.4 lens. Shot with that for the following 3 years. Travelled, got married, bought a condo and just put my nose to the grindstone shooting wedding, headshots and some commercial work which paid for it all. Made the mistake of ballooning on the gear again around 2014...as if I didn't learn my lesson at all. Sold them all during the pandemic and now have 3 main primes and a 3 yr old camera (again) and a new'ish 1 yr old camera that I use for outdoor adventures and on the gimbal. Save your money, rent what you need. Lot's of billboards you drive past on the highway were shot with the original Canon 5D MK1 or similar...just sayin'

on my canon EOS R - I've forced myself to only use the EF 50mm 1.8 and man, you get so much fun out of it and realise the other lens are just nice to haves

I agree. I see buying photography gear like owning a vehicle. Can you buy a sports car and use it to drive your family? Absolutely, yes. However, it makes more sense to own an SUV or a CRV if you're driving your family around. Buy gear you need and will use daily over a lens that will give you a specific look that you use once every 6 months.

Had this 24-105mm f3.5-5.6 which was taking space in my camera bag for a year. I discarded it to purchase a speedlight. And it has been worth it

Omggg my camera bag broke because of over packing. My had to use my lil kit bag. Literally only need two lenses and one can body. I was carrying this others stuff for NOTHING!

I currently use a nikon 35mm 1.8g and a Sigma 18-50mm 2.8 to 4.5g for nikon. What do you think of these lenses?
