i’d be interested in hearing your anecdotal experience with the cost (per month?) for this metabolic treatment. like ballpark range of cost of your care team, food, tools, and what insurance covers. and the time (number or hours, days, years) to took to do the research, advocate for yourself, unsuccessful experiences with your psychiatrist, etc.) that would feel like a real gesture and acknowledgement of the privilege to reall be able to chew into. i love your content and not one of the critics of your new (amazing) life changes, but i hope to see more of the guts of the process rather than the (good but) scripted polished or light hearted playful content.

Medical keto changed my life. I discovered it thanks to this channel🎉. To those who doubt Laurens' veracity: 15 clinical trials are underway: Harvard Medical School, Oxford, Stanford, John Hopkins, UC San Francisco, UCLA, Edinburgh University of Scotland, etc. Harvard is due to open a Metabolic Psychiatry clinic in McLean Hospital lead by Dr Chris Palmer in the coming months. The evidence has moved from anecdotal to groundbreaking. Lauren is a trailblazer. Blessings to this channel!!🙏

The trials currently underway are designed to assess the potential validity and efficacy of metabolic therapies (like keto), rather than a current confirmation of their efficacy. I think we’re all hopeful that they will prove to be effective-it would be an incredible advancement! However, equating these ongoing trials with proof or endorsement risks undermining the legitimacy of the research itself. Let’s allow the scientific process to play out and let the evidence speak for itself.

I agree. I think remission is better as well. It’s more realistic until we have the longitudinal evidence base to back up metabolic therapy as a “cure”. I think it’s important for patients to have realistic expectations because the disappointment that can come with having one’s hopes unfulfilled and how detrimental that can be to the care management process, is not something to take lightly.

Lauren - I think you're missing the forest for the trees, here. You're assuming that those with any concerns don't want healing for you (which isn't the case for many of us as far as I've seen). Even those with concerns are cheering for you, want the best for you, and I can't speak on behalf of others, but I'd imagine those with concerns are still glad that you're currently symptom free. You changed your channel name to "Living Well **AFTER** Schizophrenia" (clearly implying you're no longer diagnosed with Schizophrenia which also implies not needing any ongoing treatment for it). Whatever you want to call it, **you are still currently receiving treatment for schizophrenia spectrum disorder** - this just happens to be highly controlled, strict medical ketogenic therapy rather than psychotropic medication. Your disorder is still being managed, it hasn't been healed or moved on from. That's not a bad thing - just reality. I maintain that giving any impression otherwise is irresponsible and dangerous, for reasons that many people have already explained to you, over and over again.

I've doing keto roughly the same amount of time as you, but for me, it was initially all about weight loss. I managed to lose 25 kilograms in less than ten weeks and was, of course, in a massive ketogenic state. During the first couple of weeks, I measured neither my weight nor my ketones, as I was completely taken by the totally unexpected side effect that ketosis had on my brain and also because I knew nothing about how I could even measure anything. I just felt different, and dare I say, great. I would even go as far as to say that I was high on ketones. Approx. three months in, I got completely sober, despite having been a mild alcoholic and I also completely cut out all caffeine. I managed to do all that just with the help of YT and the internet. I took no medication, had no rehab or counselling whatsoever, and I just can't imagine achieving all that on my own without the help of ketones. That said, replicating the feeling I had during the first couple of months is getting harder and harder. I am now quite lean with no body fat to lose, so it is likely not so easy for me to enter deeper ketosis. My body must have adapted. Three months ago, I switched from keto to carnivore, which further healed my skin and GI issues. I have never been formally diagnosed with any mental disorder, but I experience a lot of symptoms of ADHD, depression and bipolar. During Christmas, I ate a lot of sweets thinking I'd be fine, and I have to say that my mental health deteriorated quite a bit, so I am 100% onboard that ketones are healing for the brain. Greetings from the Czech Republic.

Maybe you can try to add more fats or MCT to increase ketone levels.
@diazemap
@diazemap 11 күн бұрын
@ I am on carnivore, so MCT is a no-no as it's plant based. I can't add much fat to my diet because this would make me put on excess weight. I used MCT in the past though but found it not worth the money. MCT is definitely great for people who are in the fat-adaptation phase, especially to make bulletproof coffee. At the beginning of my keto journey, I was surely able to make enough ketones without any MCT. Maybe I'll give it a try in the future. I remember eating a really copious amount of coconut oil and having a massive spillover of ketones in my urine despite not being really fasted. It was weird. So I imagine it might work. The trouble is that I have no continuous monitor for ketones, peetone strips don't really show much at all anymore, even if I fast for over a day and I recently ran out of blood ketone strips and couldn't order more because they were out of stock. There's still a lot I have to learn, and monitoring seems to be key.

I have i feeling my rants are part of this video is exist. I am worried how you say things like This [medicine] was not going to work or presenting you psychiatrist as an obstacle for not being exited about ketogenic therapy. You have also made a video about how the "miracle medication" doesn't deserve to be called a game changer while keto does. This despite the medication having gone through several clinical trials and 6 year trial Some of your timestamps includes: 16:45 - Qualitative reportings don't make sense to me... 20:06 - I'm not tearing Cobenfy apart! but... 21:25 - I get the appeal of a "revolutionary" treatment for schizophrenia 23:46 - Conclusion (an exciting start! but not game changing in itself) It's perfectly fine that you are skeptical tp these things, the problem is that you are not as skeptical to metabolic therapy which has no trials at all, only reviews that suggest trials. In other words, I worry because the things you say doesn't really match the overall message on your channel. Is this something you could make a video on?

I am honestly tired of her constantly badmouthing and complaining about her psychiatrist and complaining about what the psych ward is like etc. She never tries to put herself into their shoes for a second and acknowledge how psychotic episodes impact others and why psych ward have to be (hopefully reasonably) strict about what you can/can’t have. I’m not trying to say that all mental health professionals are perfect etc. But at least try to understand their POV and understand how psychotic episodes impact those around you. They have a tough job that society doesn’t take seriously. She doesn’t seem to understand for ex: if you’re psychotic and manic, maybe you shouldn’t be online due to shopping (can ruin finances) and speaking from experience, it’s really not funny or fun to receive texts from a manic person. It’s super awkward and I have to block them. I think it especially annoys me because she was talking about how suicidal she was and then sort of complained about how strict the psych ward is (not seeming to understand they’re strict due to suicidal behavior…..) It’s like whining and complaining about being pulled over for drunk driving and not understanding how dangerous drunk driving is and being ungrateful to the police for saving your life! (Hopefully they were kind enough given the circumstances….)

I am in the same situation having very good control of my diabetes through low-carb. But I have a different view: the negative health effects of smoking, alcohol or of high carb consumption are quite clear. Why should we view excess carbs differently than excess alcohol or smoking? I am getting more and more to consider low-carb as a normal human diet and high carb as excess. Diabetes is then the normal adverse reaction to a drug at the same level as lung cancer or fatty liver.
@rockabillymuffin

... That is just not true. There is so clear causal link that has been established between eating high carb/ lots of sugar and getting diabetes. Science isn't even sure how exactly diabetes develops and what causes what. There is even evidence that suggests diabetes causes weight gain instead of a higher weight causing diabetes. And Pre Diabetes was actually developed by a PR department of a diabetes organization, most people with 'pre diabetes ' never develop diabetes, even without intervention. Also, Sugar and Carbs are needed for our bodies and brain to create energy and aren't (neuro)toxic, most definitely in a level that is consumable to humans, tobacco and alcohol are (neuro)toxic in any dose. This is just not a helpful comparison.

I've seen that argument before, but I look at it differently. If you are deficient in a nutrient you will develop a disease (e.g. kwashiorkor, pellagra, etc.). You wouldn't say that as long as you consume sufficient nutrients, you are "managing" your kwashiorkor. Managing diabetes means continuing to have it but using insulin & medication to reduce the symptoms. Managing a mental illness likewise means using medication. If you cease to have symptoms, then you're not managing it. If Lauren still has symptoms, then she is not completely cured, but if those symptoms are greatly reduced, she has experienced a significant level of healing.

@benjones1452
@benjones1452 12 күн бұрын
@@HumanStyleBeing I think you’re absolutely right-it’s incredibly frustrating to hear 'more research needs to be done' without a clear starting point. I have started to lead with my own experience. The side effects of antipsychotics-weight gain, cognitive fog, and those awful anticholinergic symptoms-were unbearable. Keto gave me a way to push back against those effects, and the improvements I’ve seen have been life-changing. Lauren’s last post reminded me of the case series by Calabrese et al. (2024) it aligns with this, those people saw huge improvements with keto. Even though it was a small study, the changes in metabolic markers were remarkable-people with metabolic syndrome were genuinely recovering. Even considered on its own, that kind of result shows how much potential keto has to be used as a therapy alongside medication. It’s important to stress that nobody is saying we shouldn’t medicate-these drugs save lives. But it’s easy to be cast in the light of being anti-pharmaceuticals because, of course, we’ve suffered from their effects. If we can reduce doses and mitigate the metabolic side effects, the problems with these medications become significantly less severe. It’s really the metabolic consequences that make them dangerous in the first place. Studies like the recent one by Dr. Shebani Sethi provide more evidence for how metabolic therapies can complement traditional treatments. For instance, addressing the metabolic dysfunction tied to antipsychotics could significantly reduce the severity of their side effects. Therapies like keto, used together with medication, could dramatically improve outcomes for people like us. That’s where I think the research needs to focus.

Lauren is evangelizing the benefits of keto. It is provocative, but promoting this therapy needs bold action. We who suffer from the negative side effects of powerful drugs need help. It would be so easy to damn keto with faint praise. I have a story (difficult personal stories) for each of the below, and I imagine you do too. So, tell me... 1. If you have ever experienced anticholinergic side effects... ...if not, you might not understand how debilitating they can be. Muscle tension that won’t subside, tremors that erode confidence, or seizures that strike unpredictably-all these can make life feel unbearable. Studies have shown that ketogenic diets, originally developed to treat epilepsy, reduce seizure frequency by 50% in about half of patients who try it and can even lead to complete remission. Beyond seizures, keto’s neuroprotective effects offer a glimpse of hope for managing these conditions. I once sat in a hospital emergency waiting area for an hour before I got a Procyclidine injection because the nurse thought I was a drug addict, I could only keep my neck straight by biting my bag. 2. If you’ve faced the weight gain, lethargy, and metabolic havoc caused by these medications... ...if not, you might underestimate how crushing their impact can be. Antipsychotics like olanzapine, a good second gen anti-psychotic, can cause an average weight gain of 8-20 kg within a year, I went from 88.5 kg to 114.31 kg, significantly increasing the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Keto, by stabilizing blood sugar and promoting fat metabolism, has been shown to lead to significant reductions in body weight, triglycerides, and HbA1c (a marker of blood sugar control). For me, this wasn't just weight loss-it was like regaining life. I now weigh 88.7 kg and am six foot three (I have been six foot three for years though ;-). 3. If you’ve struggled with the fog of persistent cognitive dullness... ...if not, it might be hard to understand how the clarity provided by keto feels like breaking through a dense cloud. In a 2019 pilot study on bipolar disorder, a ketogenic diet led to measurable improvements in cognitive function, mood stabilization, and a reduction in depressive symptoms. This clarity isn’t just anecdotal-it’s tied to keto’s ability to stabilize neuronal energy supply and reduce oxidative stress in the brain. I could never have written this before keto. 4. If you've seen how mental illness steals your agency... ...if not, you might not appreciate how empowering it is to regain control through something as tangible as what you eat. Mental illness often robs individuals of autonomy, but keto provides a unique sense of agency. By modulating the gut-brain axis and reducing systemic inflammation (both of which are implicated in mental health disorders), keto offers a scientifically backed way for individuals to influence their own well-being. 5. If you’ve tried everything else and still felt stuck... ...then, you might dismiss keto as another fleeting fad. But for those who’ve run the gamut of treatments, keto represents more than just hope-it’s a way out of desperation. Case studies of patients with treatment-resistant depression have shown marked improvements after adopting a ketogenic diet, with some achieving remission. These are not isolated incidents but emerging evidence of a broader trend. By no means is keto a panacea, nor is it suitable for everyone. But, there is mounting evidence-from seizure control to mood stabilization, cognitive enhancement, and metabolic repair-to suggest it can be transformative. To ignore this potential is to dismiss a therapy that could offer life-changing relief for those who need it most.

I have seen it many times in the field. Is that her problem? Absolutely not. She should go on whatever journey works for her.

I wonder why people are so hung up on what you perceive as healing or being healed. If you feel you are healed, then that's what you are. I mean since no weight loss method has demonstrated significant to be sustainable over a period of five years or more in up to 99 % of people, eventual weight gain, most of the time more than the original weight IS to be expected, even when adhering to the weight loss method perfectly over that time (which is unrealistic in itself). And you know why we know this? Because there are studies over a long period of time. Funnily enough, most (weight loss funded) studies only look at the short term, and that's why they claim to be successful and sustainable when they are just not over a longer period of time.

As someone diagnosed with bipolar type 1, I have been off my medications for over a year. For many years, I have been low carb and then keto/ketovore/carnivore. While I was tapering, I was quite strict. However, for a few weeks, I have been eating more carbs and not testing for ketosis. Still symptom free. I endeavour to return to being more strict, but allowing the occasional eggs-on-toast at the café. Interestingly, children with epilepsy often do not need to keep on the ketogenic diet for a lifetime - just a few years is enough for healing 😄

I decided that I needed off it altogether and approach my shit from a different angle, such as increasing my other med, or what have you. The withdrawal from it was absolutely harrowing and I'm still fairly messed up four months off the med later. Doing much better, but GEEZE was it insane. I gradually decreased my dosage down to nothing over a course of 5 months. 5 months of hell. Never, and I mean ever, will I take that medication again.

Hi Lauren, I believe you and Rob are true champions. My healing journey has been ongoing with steps forward and backwards for nearly 30 years. As I’m writing this I can feel emotion and memory coming back somewhat. Pain to enlightenment. I wish we as a global society could work in conjunction with psychiatry and the medical model. I was kind of “anti” for a long time and have realised that got me nowhere too as it fired and stirred me up. I certainly long to be completely medication free one day. I’m nearly there! 😄👍🙏 Perhaps one can only know the vast array of sensing the world “oh some deeply” if they have experienced it themselves. P.S. I can see some grammatical errors or choppy reading flow in my post here. But I think I’ll leave it as to be more authentic. 😂👍🙏

Sadly a lot of people don't like to accept they have been failed by the conventional medical system for most of their life. I don't have Schizophrenia but in regards to my Tourette's food sensitivity elimination to reduce neuroinflammation allowed me to stay in a mainstream school, got me off antipsychotics and stopped the antipsychotics from causing further hormone and liver damage. As I had a severe case of Tourette's to the point where my family thought I might have to have DBS brain surgery one day, it was amazing that my tics were able to become virtually non-existent for 2 years with this diet change (they only returned when a chronic infection triggered the neuroinflammation back up and caused delusions, depression, tics, OCD, depersonalisation, derealisation and more - PANS) and allowed me to get off the medication that I was taking 3 times a day (whilst still having severe tics.) Lots of people were sadly against it when I spoke about my experience, but surely they should be happy I found something that helped and I wasn't the only one, others in the community were also speaking about how diet impacted them. Sadly a lot of people would rather see others suffer in the name of conventionality so they don't have to change their worldview and see how much the majority is failed by the conventional system.

The bangs are SOOOO cute! I love them!! I suppose my comment on the previous video was part of the, uh, "unexpected uproar", so I will repeat and expand upon my perspective on this video as well: The semantic differences between the words "cure" and "heal" are quite subtle, and most people aren't familiar with those distinctions. While the nuanced difference works to your advantage in justifying the flashy title of your previous video through this language deep dive, the average viewer likely does not have this context and could find the title misleading. You used to manage your illness with medications, and now you manage it with diet-this shift could be communicated more clearly than "The Year I Healed My Schizophrenia."

I’m curious-based on how you use the word “healed,” would you feel uncomfortable or resistant to people using the same language in reference to antipsychotic treatments or ongoing ECT? Many people achieve remission with these treatments and experience no significant side effects-certainly no more than what might arise from metabolic therapies. For them, taking medication or undergoing routine ECT is less limiting than adhering to a ketogenic diet or maintaining a strict sleep/light schedule in terms of their lifestyle. Would you be comfortable with those individuals saying that antipsychotics “healed them,” even if they rely on daily medication? I’m asking this sincerely, without judgment, and because I’m genuinely curious about your perspective. I know the point of your video wasn’t to get too caught up in the language, but what has been most off-putting for me about metabolic therapies for mental illness is the almost cult-like fervor of some advocates. I realize that may sound judgmental, but it feels accurate-likely because the most accessible information comes from people whose lives were so profoundly changed that they approach it with religious dedication. I think I’d feel more comfortable if metabolic therapies were presented as an equally valid option, rather than inherently “healthier,” “optimal,” or “preferred.” So perhaps it’s not just about vernacular when I visit the Metabolic Mind website or watch your videos, but rather the tone that places metabolic therapy above traditional treatments. Which brings me back to my original question: how would you feel about someone saying they were “healed” from schizophrenia, but attributing it to antipsychotic medication rather than metabolic therapy?

Mental illness isn't a monolith and having alternatives to conventional therapies that can help us manage mental illness more effectively are welcome. How you communicate is important. Words have power and they can influence others. Try to understand that many viewers will be impacted on your choice of words. Its not about you or getting validated by the vocabular police. Its about understanding that you are on a global platform and how you communicate to your community will influence how they will make choices. So it is better to be more cautious with terms. She's trying to smooth things over. So no I'm not missing the point she is making. I'm fully aware that this channel is about her healing journey. First of all thankyou for highlighting this, and for all the education you are giving to the world. I was diagnosed with schizphrenia in 1996, and my illness has been quite severe. Over the years I have been sectioned 5 times for about 6 weeks each time. But despite how severe my illness is when I'm unwell my illness has always been sporadic where I have had years of being almost normal. In the last 2 years I have become vegan and started a whole food plant based diet. I feel that my diet has cleaned my body. I also feel spiritually better as no bad energy is going into my body. I have found a the vegan community online. I have also sorted out my sleep hygene, going to bed and getting up the same time every day. I use blackout curtains, and clear blue light blocking glasses for when I get up in the night to go to the toilet and get a drink. I use a daylight alarm clock and imiatley open the curtains. I sit by a daylight therapy light by the window when I get up. All of this has sorted out my circadium rhythem and I sleep like a baby. I go the gym three times a week and prioritse this time. I have a exercise bike by my TV, and I go on the bike whilst watcing KZbin. I keep in touch with my family and friends with phone calls and facebook. I have media free days where I don't look at a screen. I only often watch the bullet points of the news to stop negativty. I watch relaxation and mindfull ness KZbin videos which I find helpful. I used hynotherapty such as Paul McKenna audiobooks. I have spoke to my girlfreind about some of the root causes of my illness that has helped me sort out my feelings. I have good spirtiual health with a believe in a higher power knowing that science knows of highter dimensions. But I don't belong to a religion as I believe in science, but I know good enery of Buddha and Jesus, and often have my painting of Jesus hanging up in my home. My vegan diet has made my spiritually well. I avoid negative things like horror movies. I count my blessings often, including all the simple things, and think in a positive and optomistic way that helps a lot. I avoid negative poeple. I do art therapy such as painting, writing novels where I escape into a different world, and making music. I do the things I enjoy like cooking, reading my kindle, and going the gym. I fast sometimes that enables my brain to use ketones like you. I never call my self stupid even though when I have when been ill I have believed stupid things. I wrote my autobiography called, 'I still have Dreams a life with schizophrenia' that I published on Amazon that was very theraputic for me. I try to learn new things to keep my brain acitve, and am currently learing how to narrate audiobooks. As for the vegan diet I gradually transitioned into it so my cut microbium changed. I take some suppliments such as 'complement' vitamins, essential amino acid tablets, creatine gummies, protein powder in smoothies, vegan collegen raspberry drink. But its just 2 times a day I take my suppliments and takes just a minute. I drink smoothies often with lots of spinach and kale with a little fruit. I eat a lot of fruit that I just love and know does my body good. I have a low dose of my depot medication and am currently lowering my medication. I feel that I might need a low dose of medication and I'm seeing how I go? All of this has made me have zero symtoms. I feel great. Each one of these things has helped keep me well. Wishing you all the best.

I don't know what the majority of comments have been saying, but what I hear is that this idea is that everyone should be trying metabolic therapies and keto. Schizophrenia is a completely individualistic experience for everyone who has the illness. Some people have extremely debilitating experiences and others experience it very shortly and it never affects them again. It's a spectrum. I think the frustration with your videos , that I feel, is not that you aren't creating your own journey but suggesting this is something that can be practiced on a broader level. Keto is not a realistic diet for many people for various reasons such as income, location, and previously existing dietary needs. I am completely happy for you that this has worked FOR YOU, but to suggest this is something that could be practiced for everyone with the illness is a little backhanded and feels extremely misguided. It isn't inspiring to me to have a diet that is so limited and exclusive be portrayed on a channel that used to provide solid feedback on how to manage the same illness as mine in a realistic way that I could implement to day to day life.

Also would you consider interviewing doctors who look at any therapies related to sleep and this disease? I was on a wait list for 7 months to get a therapist, it the point where I gave up and told them to take me off all the lists. That’s when they decided to call me nonstop. While I was begging for help, they didn’t want to help me and I suffered in waiting for too long.

I also went on lamtical after the lithium because they told me I needed to be on something, and two days after, I went to the ER for heart attack symptoms. Not once did they tell me that could be a side effect of lamtical. They again told me I wasn’t on a “therapeutic” dose. So I stayed on it until I looked it up myself. I had to go to two partial hospital programs in the same year, in order to get help that they never gave me. They promised to get me a therapis but didn’t. I was on a beta blocker for anxiety as well until I had to find out they don’t actually help. The studies were a lie and beta blockers have titanium dioxide, which is a carcinogen and a metal which never leaves your system. I started looking up the chemical compositions of everything I was taking. I have metal allergies and trusting the doctor to tell me accurate information left me sick. They told me lithium was a salt. It’s a metal alloy. They don’t like that I’m doing my own research and are super rude to me now, but this channel has given me hope that stability can be achieved with life style changes, something they don’t discuss at all. Food is the most important aspect of health, but very much downplayed. Something I learned is that Carl Jung got all of his ideas from spirit communication. In today’s world, he would be considered schizophrenic, right? But his teachings are weaved within the fabric of modern psychology. Why are things that need to be medicated today praised in the past and are the basis of all modern teachings? It definitely wasn’t based on science if that’s what you believe. Psychology is far from a science. The Rockefellers are the ones who started funding psychiatry in the 50’s, and they got all their money from oil. It’s a 1.6 TRILLION dollar industry now. They also funded the schools who made the studies who wrote the papers that tell us it’s safe. It’s broken by design.

@@alexyssaubrie1606 No one told me about antipsychotic induced heart failure, which you have all of the signs of a heart attack, but the ECG and blood test don't show a heart attack. Only with a full cardio work up does it show up, and countless people with schizophrenia are sent away after the first couple of tests and die on their way home. I've been on APs for 13 years and a heart attack is my worst nightmare.

This is KZbin and you’re entitled to your own opinion. I have watched medical videos and many have disclaimers at the start of the video. Something to the effect that you are not proving medical advice…Good luck in your journey. Some of us are not that lucky. Continuous psychosis without meds I cannot 😢even fathom. Thanks for posting videos. Ignore the haters.

After my bipolar diagnosis, getting on Seroquel was life changing. But I've still had to really shake up my diet, not just because I started getting into lifting weights so I need lots of protein, but because I was really starting to notice that eating how I always had just caused me to feel awful and would spike my depression and mood swings. THIS DIDNT WORK WITHOUT MEDICATION. It is the combination of medication, exercise AND diet that has helped me turn my life around..But for me I couldnt keep up with the diet without medication. Its really a combination of them all for me.

Healing can take place on many levels. My knee replacement required me to heal on physical, emotional and existential levels for years. I still have arthritis in my knee, and I can't ski any more, but the implant worked, and I'm healed. For now.

As a clinical therapist in the states, most of us in the field, know that if everyone slept well, minimized stress, ate well, practiced prayer/meditation, minimized outside influences on their self worth, etc., most would be healthy, and "healed." Go you! I am incredibly proud of you, and have been watching your journey for awhile. I never thought you insinuated you were "Cured," in remission, YES!

I used the ketogenic diet 13 years ago to manage severe menstrual pain due to endometriosis. It would help me not miss days of work and make the pain much more manageable and people weren’t very happy that I was using this diet to achieve that. I think diet is something that isn’t well understood by people and can be triggering for people. Sometimes I think because it is something that is a choice that requires giving up things we enjoy, people don’t want to believe they could have relief if they were willing to give up certain foods that maybe they don’t want to.

I’m glad you are in a remission of your symptoms and I hope one day I get there but I appreciate your advocating and understanding of Schizoaffective disorder it’s one of the hardest mental illnesses and effects ever part of our lives. Keep up the great work Lauren :)

Wonderful to follow your healing journey Lauren. My healing journey which I am happy with consists of a small dose of meds, plenty of sleep and little stress. Diagnosed with psychosis at age 17 and will be 50 this year. Transitioned from older antipsychotic to newer antipsychotic medication which was better. Considered doing medical keto diet but decided I enjoy having the freedom to eat what I want (albeit not always good for me!). But for me I did not experience any symptoms of illness or bad side effects from medication so all was good on the treatment plan I have. Each person like you suggest have to find and decide what the best thing is for them on their own healing journey. Thank you for showing how medical keto can potentially be an option for some 💚

Hey Lauren, love the haircut☺️ looks great. I stumbled on a video of yours from 6 years ago and you look radically healthier today. Shot you and Rob a message on your discord community about entertaining a brain scan. I think doing a SPECT scan with the intent of doing another in a years time to show the physiological changes that may or may not occur (I believe will) could do wonders for forwarding metabolic and nutritional psychiatry. Just something to consider. Wishing you good health☺️

I am a psychiatrist and I have lived with serious mental illness for two decades. Lauren you don’t need to keep explaining yourself! I don’t know why people are so incredibly harsh and also why this is all so confusing to people. You have been pretty clear and consistent. I may not agree with every single thing you believe but your experience is your own. I think everyone has their own experience plus I know science needs to use evidence-based ideally randomized controlled trials to find solutions for people. In some of your videos I do feel you generalize and make assumptions about doctors and health care. Most psychiatrists I know are aware of metabolic therapy and many are interested in it and follow the studies. Most psychiatrists I know care about their patients and give so much of their lives focusing on caring for patients. Sometimes they don’t collaborate enough and are too paternalistic, I will agree. But most want healing for their patients and would be overjoyed if all their patients made videos like this. And not everyone believes that people with serious mental illness can’t recover or heal or have a future or a present where they achieve their goals. One thing I really agree with and can see in your videos is your shift in perspective which came with your embrace of the metabolic approach. I am sure some is connected to that approach and I also think some could be connected to having any new approach. As well as having the benefit of all your learning and efforts over the past years, much of which you’ve shared here. It’s impossible to know and you have a right to your conclusions and your why and your reasons. But I do think this is precisely why randomized controlled trials are imperative. Because that impact of believing in what you are doing and then the consequence of that and how it leads to more healing is very important. And finding the why and the pieces of solutions for all of us it’s important. More research is needed that has a randomized controlled format and I know you are in favor of that. As someone with serious mental illness who is also a psychiatrist, metabolic therapy did not change everything for me when I tried it. But I found healing in other ways, and in my case, I cannot function without medication. Maybe that is consistent with what you say here, and I do appreciate that you keep trying to figure this all out. I do think it’s good to remember the wide range of illness that are likely represented by “schizophrenia” or “bipolar disorder” and the complexity of how this manifests for each individual within the context of their other physical and mental health, their genetics, their (especially childhood) environment, their intellectual strengths, their trauma, their personality. I wish you health and happiness. You are very special.

Hey there! Thank you so much for sharing your story and sharing your experiences. I'm a high functioning schizophrenic and a biologist and am 43 years old in February I made it through the Spring and Fall this year with very mild symptoms again for the second year in a row, I say that because I keep waiting for the storm to come but I guess I have achieved some level sanity with some protocols I've been experimenting with on myself with that I can't recommend because the literature is sparse for my approach. In my late twenties and into my mid thirties I experimented extensively with metabolic approaches to schizophrenia because some of the literature at the time looked promising though the studies were small and had short time frames including well formulated ketogenic diets for close to a decade. I should preface this with - I have been symptomatic since I was a teenager and hospitalized multiple times. Initially the ketogenic diet and metabolic therapies seemed to offer tremendous symptom relief but what was really going on in hindsight was what I call "slow psychosis" my perception and those around me were positive all the while in the background I was developing other psychiatric symptoms but they took time to appear. None of this is to say you shouldn't continue to try there is immense variability and biodiversity in humans, but ketogenic diets don't heal they are symptom management because ketogenic pathways do not stimulate cellular regeneration or prevent cellular degeneration they merely mask it by stimulating alternative energy pathways that are intended for fight or flight use or survival (and yes indeed we are trying to survive) needless to say while their is the perception of relief it's really masking overt symptoms of psychosis. So please be mindful and careful to watch yourself and journal if necessary.

I wouldn't trust big pharma as far as I could throw them, which with my bad back wouldn't be very far. These companies care about their profits and not much else. Servicing a condition rather than curing it is their holy grail. In all fairness, we can't expect anything better from a production for profit system. All the best to those who are suffering, whatever the ailment.

Big pharma saved my life twice. I would literally not be alive today without the medicines for my heart and if not for new antibiotics that saved my life from pneumonia that put me in respiratory failure. Thank GOD for "big pharma." I am not saying it doesn't need to be better regulated, but I wouldn't be here without the meds that this industry created.
